The Last of Us" Season 3 Release Window
"The Last of Us" might be Emmy-nominated, but it'll take a while before the show graces HBO screens again.
In a conversation with
Variety
, HBO CEO Casey Bloys dropped more information about "The Last of Us" future and how long it will take to adapt the rest of "The Last of Us Part II".
"The series is definitely planned for 2027," Bloys said regarding season 3's release date, though he revealed showrunner Craig Mazin "is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn't been decided yet, and I'm following Craig's lead on that."
Unlike the previous seasons, Mazin will be the sole showrunner going into season 3, with Neil Druckmann and writer Halley Gross -- who co-wrote Part II's story with Druckmann -- announcing they will step away from the show earlier this month.
According to Bloys, this decision was a result of Druckmann having to prioritize his commitment as co-president of the game company Naughty Dog, stating, "A lot of people don't realize that Neil has a full time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog. It's a really big job that he's got. So I understand why he needs to focus on that. But I believe he's given us a good blueprint with the show. And obviously Craig is a pro, so I think we'll be in excellent shape. I'm not worried at all."
Druckmann's next project is the upcoming sci-fi game "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," whose cast features "The Last of Us" Tati Gabrielle and Tony Dalton in lead and supporting roles.
Compared to season 1's reception, "The Last of Us" season 2 earned more mixed-to-positive reviews, with notable criticism being directed at the later episodes' pacing and slight tweaks to how the story played out compared to its source material.
Despite this, the series has been nominated for 16 awards at this year's Emmys, including Best Actor and Actress for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and multiple guest actor/actress nominations for its supporting cast.
The show's nomination count was outdone by "Severance," "The Penguin," "The Studio," and "The White Lotus," with Apple TV+'s hit sci-fi thriller walking away with 27 nominations, "Penguin" getting 24, and "The Studio" and "The White Lotus" matching each other with 23.
Keeping in line with Part II's big twist, "The Last of Us" ended with a dramatic confrontation between Ellie (Ramsey) and Joel's killer Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) before flashing back three days to revisit the season's back half from Abby's perspective.
This will place the focus on not only Abby, but her WLF friends who assisted in tracking Joel down and their militia's leader Isaac, played again by game actor Jeffrey Wright.

"Harry Potter" Stars Emma Watson and Zoë Wanamaker Hit with 6-Month Driving Ban
Yara Sameh Emma Watson has been banned from driving in the UK for six months. The actress, best known for her work in "Harry Potter" and "Beauty and the Beast", drove an Audi at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford during an outing in July 2024. Watson has been banned from driving after accumulating more than nine penalty points on her driving license. High Wycombe Magistrates' Court also ordered her to pay a fine of £1,044 ($1,405). According to the BBC, Watson's attorney, Mark Haslam, told High Wycombe Magistrates' Court that his client was 'in a position to pay the fine.' The 35-year-old actress did not attend the short hearing. She is currently studying as a student at the University of Oxford, taking a break from her acting career. Her rep has been contacted. In a strange twist, Watson's "Harry Potter" co-star Zoë Wanamaker was also banned from driving by the same court that day. The actress, who played Madam Hooch, was caught driving at 46mph in a 40mph zone last August. She was also fined £1,044 and will be prevented from driving for six months. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell Team Up for Action Comedy "Tough Guys"
Yara Sameh Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are in talks to star in and produce "Tough Guys," an action-comedy feature set up at Amazon MGM Studios. Longtime Workin' Moms scribe Daniel Gold penned the script as a spec, which has the following logline: 'Fed up with being 'disposable,' two henchmen break free from the criminal underworld and rewrite the rules as they abandon their ruthless boss and dodge the elite assassin on their trail.' Gosling helped bring Ferrell onto the project after becoming enamored with the script. The Oscar-nominated actor is already a favorite at Amazon MGM Studios, which will release "Project Hail Marry" on March 20, 2026. The sci-fi feature's first trailer arrived last week, ahead of a splashy Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Ferrell, meanwhile, is also a fixture at the studio as the star of the recently released "You're Cordially Invited" and an upcoming Nicholas Stoller feature. Gosling is in talks to produce "Tough Guys" with Jessie Henderson via their General Admission banner, while Ferrell is in negotiations to produce with Jessica Elbaum via Gloria Sanchez. Underground's Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe would executive produce. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
