Apr. 25—State police have identified an 83-year-old Greensburg woman as being the wrong-way driver who caused a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday on Route 30 in Hempfield.
Nancy Duva entered the eastbound lanes of the divided highway going west in Subaru Crosstrek around 5:15 p.m., causing the crash just past the Cedar Street exit at a bend in the highway, troopers said.
Duva struck a Dodge Ram being driven by Jace Bartsch, 20, of Wheeling, W.Va., along with a second car, a Hyundai Elantra being driven by Kassidy Warfel, 27, of Latrobe, police said.
Bartsch and Warfel were both eastbound.
Duva and Bartsch were taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Mutual Aid spokesperson Shawn Penzera said. Their conditions are unknown. Warfel refused treatment, police said.
The sight distance for eastbound travelers on that section of Route 30 is difficult, state police Trooper Steve Limani said.
"The sight distance is designed for people traveling the speed limit or close to it," he said. "Add a vehicle driving toward you at the same speed ... your sight distance is basically cut in half. You basically have no chance — it's almost no chance."
The road was closed for four hours while state police reconstructed the crash. About 37,000 vehicles use that stretch of highway daily, according to a PennDOT traffic volume map. Traffic was detoured onto Route 119 and various side streets.
Limani said the highway is so busy at that time of day, he is surprised there weren't more injuries.
A video recorded by a driver in the westbound lanes and posted on social media showed what appeared to be an SUV driving the wrong direction and slamming into a pickup truck other motorists avoided the collision. Video from Trib news partner WTAE showed a car that appeared to have collided with the pickup. Both had front-end damage. The SUV came to a stop several feet west.
In March 2021, AAA and the National Transportation Safety Board warned motorists of an increasing rate of wrong-way crashes resulting in fatalities. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that there were 2,008 deaths from wrong-way crashes on divided highways nationwide between 2015 and 2018.
Authorities charged a Charlotte, N.C., man who was eastbound on the westbound side of Interstate 376 near Downtown Pittsburgh on April 13 when he struck an oncoming car, causing a collision that left two people dead.
And a little over a year ago, a Scottdale woman was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle after, police said, she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon, causing a 2022 crash that killed David Ott of Perryopolis.

911 Call From Choreographer In Beyoncé-Related Car Break-In Released

911 audio has been revealed from the moment Beyoncé's choreographer called Atlanta emergency services to report their vehicle had been broken into. A brief clip was shared by NBC News, detailing part of the conversation that highlighted Christopher Grant's attempt to explain the magnitude of the break-in. 'Someone broke into my car,' Grant anxiously explained to the 911 dispatcher. 'I was parked in a garage while I went to a restaurant. But they stole, like my computers and everything, but it has the tracker on it.' He continued, 'They have my computers, and it's really, really important information in there…I work with someone who's like of a high status, and I really need the, um, my computer and everything.' In the call, Grant also informed the dispatcher that he had been tracking the stolen items using the Find My function installed on Apple products, and had been watching the devices move on the app. According to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta, law enforcement has identified a vehicle involved in the break-in as a 2025 Hyundai Elantra. The owner of the car informed the news outlet that the sedan was rented out through a private service. The Los Angeles Times reported that Atlanta police have secured an arrest warrant for a male believed to be involved in the crime. A statement on Monday (July 14) detailed, 'At this time, the suspect remains outstanding, and their identity is not yet available for release.' Grant and dancer Diandre Blue informed investigators that when thieves forced their way into their SUV rental, they stole two suitcases, jump drives containing unreleased Beyoncé music, footage plans for Queen Bey's live show, past and future set lists, and more. The theft happened last week ahead of the Houston native's Atlanta takeover for the COWBOY CARTER tour. 'Mr. Grant advised he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé,' elaborated the incident report. 'He advised he was her choreographer and Mr. Diandre Blue was a dancer for her and that her hard drives for her upcoming show in Atlanta were stolen also. The hard drives contained water marked music, some un-released music, footage plans for the show and past and future set lists,' the officer added in the police report. More from Did Nicki Minaj Just Shade Beyoncé? Someone stole unreleased Beyoncé music from a car in Atlanta. What to know about the investigation

A choreographer and a dancer traveling with Beyoncé for her concerts in Atlanta left their rental car in a parking garage for an hour while grabbing a bite, then returned to find a broken window and both of their suitcases stolen. They lost more than just clothing, sunglasses and headphones. According to an Atlanta police report, the thief also made off with thumb drives containing the singer's 'unreleased music.' Police say they have identified a suspect, but they hadn't announced any arrests as of Tuesday. Here's what we know about Beyoncé's stolen music. The break-in and robbery The theft was reported July 8, which was two days before Beyoncé kicked off four nights of concerts at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium as part of tour of the U.S. and Europe in support of her Grammy-winning album, 'Cowboy Carter,' Beyoncé's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue called police after dining at a restaurant at a retail complex a few miles (kilometers) east of the downtown Atlanta stadium. They said their rented Jeep Wagoneer had been broken into while parked in a nearby garage. They had left it for about an hour after stopping to eat shortly after 8 p.m. Among the things that were stolen were two suitcases, a pair of sunglasses, Apple headphones, two Apple laptops and five thumb drives, according to the police report. 'They have my computers and it's really, really important information in there," one of the men told a 911 operator in a recording released by police. "I work with, um, someone who's, like, of a high status, and I really need my computer and everything.' Grant told officers at the scene that he and Blue work for Beyoncé and that he had been "carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician.' The police report said the thumb drives contained 'watermarked music, unreleased music, footage plans for the show, and past and future set list(s)." A representative for Beyonce' did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. Police zero in on a suspect The 911 caller, who isn't identified on the released recording, noted that one of the stolen laptops had tracking software enabled. The police report says officers canvassed an area by following signals from the laptop and the stolen headphones. Although it's unclear what evidence following the tracking signals yielded, the police report lists a red 2025 Hyundai Elantra as a possible suspect vehicle. It also says an officer inspecting Grant and Blue's rented Jeep was able to retrieve 'two very light' fingerprints. The police report also mentioned that cameras 'captured the incident' at the garage. Car break-ins are common in Atlanta As thousands of Atlanta residents and visitors learn every year, thieves commonly target parked cars with luggage and other potential valuables left in sight. There were 7,195 thefts from vehicles reported to Atlanta police in 2024, and 3,185 more have been reported since January. Police recorded 105 thefts from cars during the week before Beyonce's unreleased music was reported stolen.

Two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, as well as luxury clothing and accessories were also reported stolen, according to the incident report. Beyoncé's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue told police they parked their rental car, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, at a food hall in the city at about 8:09 p.m. The pair returned to the car just after 9 p.m. to discover the trunk window had been damaged and two suitcases had been taken. Advertisement Grant told officers that 'he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce,' the police incident report stated. The report identifies a possible suspect vehicle as a 2025 red Hyundai Elantra. Responding officers were able to identify 'light prints' at the scene, and security cameras in the parking lot captured the incident, according to the report. Officers canvassed an area where the stolen laptop and headphones were tracked by using the devices' location services, the report stated. Beyoncé kicked off her highly-anticipated tour in late April, taking her Grammy-winning album, 'Cowboy Carter,' to stadiums in the U.S. and Europe. The singer will end her tour with two Las Vegas nights in late July. Advertisement
