Geek Culture16-06-2025

Following a first-ever Monster Hunter X Sushiro collaboration in Singapore, Capcom is back with another culinary knockout — this time featuring its arguably best-known flagship franchise: Street Fighter . The latest tie-in comes as Street Fighter 6 celebrates its second anniversary, treating fans to a limited-time menu and exclusive merchandise starting 18 June.
The fight will come to all outlets islandwide, with Suntec City and Perennial Business City transformed into a themed space comprising in-game visuals, photo spots, and in-store experiences. Three special dishes are available for order during the event, each served with a free character food pick illustrated in a 16-bit pixel art style, adding up to a total of 34 random designs.
Here's what to expect from the new (if temporary) additions: Giant Cut Fresh Salmon in Yuzu Soy (S$4.50)
Shiokoji Scallop with Salmon Roe (S$4.50)
Almond Pudding with Strawberry Sauce (S$3.50)
Those who spend a minimum of S$20 in a single receipt are eligible to purchase up to three merchandise items per receipt, which feature a different set of characters across two waves. Wave 1, running from 18 June to 8 July, shines the spotlight on Ryu, Jun and Chun-Li, and Cammy and E. Honda as keychains, joining character plushies of Cammy, Akuma, and Ed.
The second wave, spanning 9 to 31 July, includes Blanka and Lily, Dee Jay and Kimberly, and Sakura and Dan as part of the keychain lineup. The keychains are available at an additional S$8.90 each, while the character plushies retail for S$15.90. A third exclusive offering, the Street Fighter Canvas Bag, depicts a beefed-up Sushiro mascot standing proudly at the front alongside the game's characters and can be purchased at S$14.90.
Released on 2 June 2023, Street Fighter 6 is the seventh and latest mainline entry in the beloved franchise, offering three overarching game modes, three control options, and a real-time commentary system that provides a tournament-style feel and the option to cheer on the player. It has sold over five million units to date, with total sales for the series coming in at 56 million units worldwide as of last December.
The Street Fighter X Sushiro collaboration brings the fists and feast to Singapore from 18 June to 31 July.

Capcom Drops First 'Resident Evil Requiem' Gameplay, Explains Why Leon Isn't The Focus

Capcom has revealed the first gameplay tease for its highly anticipated survival horror sequel, Resident Evil Requiem , showing off both first and third-person gameplay and highlighting its new protagonist, FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft. Shown via the Capcom Spotlight event, brief snippets of the upcoming title were shown, including clips of Ashcroft slowly moving through dimly lit corridors with a lighter in hand, stalked by a giant humanoid creature that's pure nightmare fuel. On first look, the game does give off similar vibes to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, with its tight, claustrophobic interiors, although this might just be a specific section of the game, and environments might open up as the game progresses, similar to 2021's Resident Evil Village . In the trailer, game director Koshi Nakanishi explains the focus on a new protagonist this time around, with the game centred on a new type of character for the series, the introverted and jumpy FBI intelligence analyst Ashcroft. 'We wanted someone that experiences horror from the same perspective as the player,' Nakanishi explained, adding that even though the goal was to allow players to witness Ashcroft overcome her fears over the course of the story, she's not entirely helpless either, being trained with firearms and possessing 'calm deductive reasoning'. Gameplay for both the titles' first and third-person perspectives were also shown, with the developers explaining how the former makes for 'tense, realistic gameplay', while the latter is 'great for people who enjoy action-heavy gameplay', offering more freedom for players to experience the title in their own way. Alas, the trailer didn't feature the big Leon Kennedy reveal fans were expecting, with the developers instead noting why the franchise veteran was actually a 'bad match for horror'. 'We always thought about making Leon the protagonist,' Nakanishi explained, 'but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn't jump at a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing.' Despite the statement, Leon's appearance in the game was not ruled out entirely, adding to fan speculation that he might be the game's unannounced second protagonist, and would show up in the later portions of the game, similar to Resident Evil Village 's closing section with Chris Redfield. This follows details spotted in the game's reveal trailer hinting at Leon's presence, including the character's truck parked outside the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department, the character's voice actor Nick Apostolides' online resume, and comments by Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem. In any case, it's still early to say for sure, with more details surrounding Resident Evil Requiem's plot and characters bound to come as the game approaches its 27 February 2026 release for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. 50 Cent Joins Orville Peck In Growing ‘Street Fighter' Reboot Film Cast

Legendary Pictures has chosen the fighters for its upcoming live-action Street Fighter film adaptation, and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is the latest addition to the roster. The rapper-turned-actor will play muscular boxer Balrog, and according to sources, is currently in training to do his own stunts for the production. Joining him is country singer Orville Peck as Vega, alongside Jason Momoa ( Aquaman ) as Blanka, The Recruit star Noah Centineo as Ken, and Callina Liang ( Presenc e) as Chun-Li. WWE superstar Roman Reign, or Joe Anoa'i, and Andrew Koji ( Warrior ) are also entering the ring as Akuma and lead brawler Ryu, respectively, rounding out an eclectic ensemble cast. Kitao Sakurai ( The Eric Andre Show ) helms the project, which begins production this August in Australia. While plot details remain under wraps, it is expected to follow the same premise as its 1987 arcade game, revolving around a tournament organised by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organisation Shadaloo. News of the live-action Street Fighter movie first broke in April 2023, with Danny and Michael Philippou of Talk to Me fame originally set to direct. However, scheduling conflicts saw the brothers exit the project, with Sakurai taking over the reins. It was initially slated for release on 20 March 2026, but has been delayed indefinitely. It remains to be seen how the film will bring the beloved legacy to the big screen, following the commercial and critical flop of Steven E. de Souza's 1994 adaptation. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia starred in this iteration, accompanied by supporting performances by Byron Mann, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen, Wes Studi, and more.
