One killed, 5 injured, including 2-year-old, in Hood County crash
One person was killed, and five others injured in a Hood County crash Saturday night when a Ford Explorer struck a Kia Telluride.
A 19-year-old passenger in the Explorer, not wearing a seatbelt, died after their vehicle reportedly lost control on a curve on FM 4.
Survivors from both vehicles were hospitalized.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the fatal crash.
HOOD COUNTY, Texas - One person was killed, and five others were injured in a Hood County crash on Saturday night.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. on FM 4.
A 2004 Ford Explorer pickup was traveling north on the road while a 2024 Kia Telluride was traveling south.
Texas DPS says the Explorer lost control while going around a curve and went over the double yellow lines, into the Telluride's lanes.
The Kia hit the Explorer's passenger side.
Jose Hernandez, a 19-year-old from Mineral Wells who was a passenger in the Explorer at the time of the crash, was killed. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS.
Two 18-year-olds in the Explorer were taken to the hospital in Fort Worth.
Two 34-year-olds and a 2-year-old from Lubbock who were in the Telluride were also taken to hospital.
The crash is under investigation.

Law & Order column: Police say siblings lied about crash
A brother and sister have been charged with obstruction of justice after authorities said they lied about their involvement in a fatal crash in October. Jordan Ricks, 29, and Asia Ricks, 23, both of Beach Park, were charged after an investigation revealed that they misled police about the accident that killed Daniel Davis, 56, of Beach Park, according to authorities. Davis died on the night of Oct. 18, when he was travelling south on Green Bay Road at what police said was at high speed and ran into a Kia that made a left turn in his path at the Chaplin Drive intersection. The brother and sister told police that Jordan Ricks was driving the Kia at the time and Asia was in the passenger seat, according to reports. However, police now say that Asia Ricks was actually driving, and that Jordan Ricks came to the scene after the collision. 'The investigation revealed the siblings fabricated the story because Asia was likely under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and did not want to be held accountable for her actions,' the Lake County Sheriff's Office said. The pair turned themselves in for processing after they were indicted by a grand jury. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 28. National Night Out A number of police departments across Lake County will be participating in the annual National Night Out event, which takes place on Tuesday. National Night Out is a nationwide campaign aimed at fostering better relationships between communities and their police departments. The events often feature things like cookouts, parades, outdoor and party get-togethers, which give people the chance to meet police in a positive atmosphere and foster community. Grayslake police, in conjunction with its FOP Lodge and the Grayslake Park District, will be participating for the first time. Their event takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Central Park, and will feature food and games. Police and public works vehicles will be on display. Most participating departments have posted information about National Night Out activities on their Facebook pages. Waukegan's Night Out takes place at the Waukegan Municipal Beach on Aug. 8. Teens praised Wauconda police recognized four teens who did the right thing when they happened upon a discarded pistol along a village street. The teens were riding their bikes on July 16 along Illinois Route 176, near the U.S. Route 12 underpass, when they saw a .25-caliber Colt handgun on the sidewalk. Two of the boys remained to keep an eye on the gun while the other two rode to the police department to report their find. Police secured the gun for further investigation. 'The bravery and common sense these young men showed is truly commendable,' Chief David Wermes said. 'They turned a potentially dangerous situation into an example of community responsibility.' As a gesture of thanks, the chief treated the kids to ice cream at Dairy Queen. Anyone with information about the gun is asked to contact the police at (847) 526-2421. Self-defense course Mundelein police will offer a women's self-defense course beginning in September. The five-week session begins Sept. 14 from 6-8 p.m. It ends Oct. 14. The free course will teach awareness and prevention of violent acts, and will give women tools to defend themselves. The course is limited to 24 participants, who must be 18 or older, or 17 with a note from a parent, to participate. 'The goal of this program is to inform, encourage, and empower participants while building fundamental skills to support safety and build confidence in independent ability,' the department said. Driver flees police, hits pedestrians, crashes stolen car in NW Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two pedestrians were seriously injured when they were hit by a driver in a stolen car who was fleeing from a traffic stop in the Pearl District early Sunday afternoon. Around 1 p.m., officers spotted the stolen Kia near NW 9th and Burnside and tried to stop it. But the driver took off instead, and police said they did not pursue. The driver then turned onto Northwest Glisan, lost control and crashed into the pedestrians near Northwest 6th. The pedestrians were rushed to a hospital, but neither their exact conditions nor their names have been released. Body found in Willamette River near Steel Bridge The driver was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, officials said. Jacoby Bush, who works in the area, told KOIN 6 News he saw the car racing down the street and go towards a bunch of people before crashing into a fence. 'There was a big group of people over there. Obviously a lot of people scattered, a lot of people looking towards it. It was a lot of chaos,' he said. 'It could have been much worse.' Men accused of staging phony car crashes for insurance payouts: Queens DA
Editor's note: The video above aired in a previous newscast. QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – Two Brooklyn men are accused of deliberately causing three car collisions, including a Belt Parkway crash that was caught on camera, and then seeking insurance payouts. Prosecutors alleged that 53-year-old Jaime Huiracocha allegedly planned the crashes and lured people to participate with the promises of cash payouts, while 34-year-old Victor Murillo was accused of driving the car used in the collisions. More Local News Huiracocha allegedly met with a group inside an East New York medical clinic and instructed them on how to stage a car crash on Oct. 16, 2024, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that the participants were then told to send photos of the collision to a woman. The group then met up near the Belt Parkway, with a silver Honda Civic and a red Kia Sport in tow, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that the participants were told by Huiracocha what vehicles to sit in and the drivers were given headphones to communicate with one another. Murillo was asked to drive the Honda Civic, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that the other participants were given a black plastic tarp and told to cover the back window after the crash so Murillo could swap seats with a passenger without being seen. All of the cars then got on the Belt Parkway around 11 a.m. and the group allegedly picked out Asphia Natasha's vehicle for the staged collision, according to prosecutors. What they didn't know, prosecutors alleged, was that Natasha's vehicle had both front and rear dashboard cameras. The Honda Civic would then cut in front of Natasha, forcing her to stop short, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors said the Honda then backed up into Natasha's car. Passengers in the Honda then held up the plastic tarp on the back window and Murillo and someone else in the car allegedly swapped seats, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that four people got out of the Honda, including a woman who exited the driver's seat and a man who identified himself as Maikel Martinez. Martinez claimed that the woman was his wife, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that the Kia, which was following Natasha's car, pulled up to the crash. Murillo is accused of getting out of the Honda and into the Kia, which then fled the scene, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors alleged that Huiracocha and Murillo staged two other crashes that happened before the Belt Parkway collision on Oct. 3 and Aug. 24. Allstate Insurance Company said it paid out more than $82,000 for injury claims relating to those two crashes, and that it received a claim for damages to the Honda for the Oct. 16 collision. Huiracocha and Murillo were arraigned Wednesday on charges including insurance fraud, staging a motor vehicle accident, criminal mischief, conspiracy, reckless endangerment, grand larceny and attempted grand larceny.
