'Made a scapegoat': IPS officer challenges suspension order over Bengaluru stampede
Vikash, one of five senior officers suspended by the Karnataka government, argued that the suspension order lacks clarity on his individual responsibility in the incident and fails to establish any act of wilful negligence, the report added.

In his petition, he described the action as arbitrary and claimed he was being made a 'scapegoat' for systemic failures.
The government's suspension order, issued under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, accuses the officers of failing to enforce adequate crowd-control and safety measures during RCB's IPL victory celebration.
While acknowledging the short notice at which the event was held, the order does not specify the precise lapses or decision-making attributed to Vikash.
On the other hand, two separate open letters, released on Monday but coordinated in messaging, were addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The letters, signed by former Directors General of Police, ex-CBI and NSG chiefs, and senior retired civil servants, raised serious concerns about the suspension of five senior officers, including Dayananda.
The signatories expressed deep disapproval over the government's move to punish senior police officials before the conclusion of the judicial inquiry into the incident. 'Disciplinary action, especially of such gravity, must follow a fair and detailed investigation, not precede it,' the letters stated.
They pointed to the role of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in pushing for immediate post-IPL victory celebrations, despite warnings from the police about safety and crowd control challenges. According to the letters, the pressure to organise the event at short notice came from the event organisers, leaving law enforcement little time to prepare.
The letters emphasised that police had issued cautionary advisories and flagged logistical concerns, which were allegedly overlooked by the event partners.

The State government has suspended Chakrapani Y., Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) M.M. Hills Wildlife Division for dereliction of duty and negligence in the case of the unnatural death of five tigers — a mother and her cubs — in the M.M. Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka on June 26. On July 4, Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre had ordered the suspension of Assistant Conservator of Forests Gajanana Hegde of M.M. Hills Wildlife Division, and Range Forest Officer-cum-Surveyor Madesh while recommending the suspension of Mr. Chakrapani who is an Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer for dereliction of duty and negligence in the above case. On June 30, the three officers were sent on compulsory leave until further notice. On Monday the State government issued an order suspending the IFS Officer following a high-level inquiry committee report on the death of the tiger and her cubs. 'In exercise of the powers under Rule 3(1) of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, Chakarapani Y., IFS, DCF, MM Hills, Wildlife Division, Kollegal, is placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending inquiry. During the period of suspension, the officer shall be paid subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule 4 of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.' the order stated. 'During the period of suspension, the officer shall not leave the headquarters under any circumstances without the written permission of the state government,' it added.

New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Sunrisers Hyderabad have roped in former India tearaway Varun Aaron as the new bowling coach ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League. The Sunrisers took to X on Monday to announce Varun's appointment, which read, 'A fiery addition to our coaching staff! Welcome Varun Aaron as our new bowling coach.' Before Aaron's appointment, former New Zealand quick James Franklin served as SRH's bowling coach last season, replacing ex-South Africa speedster Dale Steyn. The 35-year-old, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the year, is set to replace Franklin and will work to fine-tune the 2016 IPL winners' bowling attack for the 19th season of the cash-rich league. Five members of the banned CPI (Maoist) Party surrendered before the SP of Mulugu district
MULUGU: As a result of the awareness program jointly undertaken by Mulugu District Police and CRPF for the development and welfare of tribal people under the initiative 'Poru Kanna Ooru Minna – Mana Ooruki Tirigi Randi' and after learning about the rehabilitation benefits being provided by the Government of Telangana and the Police Department, five members (including two women) belonging to the banned CPI (Maoist) Party working in various cadres, voluntarily surrendered today before the Hon'ble SP Dr. Shabarish. P,IPS., of Mulugu district. Among them, one was working in the rank of ACM, and four were party members. From January 2025 till date, a total of 73 members of the Maoist party belonging to various ranks have joined the mainstream in Mulugu district. Among them, DVCMs – 03, ACMs – 10, PMs – 22, Militia members – 29, RPC members – 01, DAKMs/KAMSs – 02, and CNM members – 06. All of them are being provided with suitable facilities under the rehabilitation scheme by the government. Witnessing the declining condition of the Maoist party day by day, lower-level cadres are opposing the top leadership and are deciding to leave the underground life and live a peaceful life with their families. This is the main reason that so far, 73 armed Maoist party members have joined the mainstream in Mulugu district alone. Due to the withdrawal of support by the tribal villagers living in the forests, it is learnt that even food supplies are not reaching the Maoists, resulting in the deterioration of their health. It is reported that their physical condition has weakened to such an extent that they are unable to even walk from one location to another. More than 90% of these cadres are poor tribal. In order to ensure the development of their families, they are leaving the Maoist party and becoming partners in development. This is truly a positive development. Appeal to the remaining Maoist party members: Believe in the slogan 'Poru Kanna Ooru Minna – Mana Ooruki Tirigi Randi' and join the mainstream. So far, the 73 armed members who surrendered have received lakhs of rupees in cash rewards, immediate assistance, and rehabilitation benefits. The Government of Telangana is deeply committed to the development of tribal communities. The Police Department is also striving to fulfill its responsibility. Police camps will be established by the Police Department and Central Forces in the forest regions of Karreguttalu to ensure that the tribals there can freely use their resources. Appeal to the tribal people: If you support the Maoists out of trust or fear, your areas will not witness development. Development is possible only through democratic governments. Peaceful living and development of the people – is the objective of our Police Department.
