Rs 818 crore released for VLR payments since Dec 2023
Data reveals that in FY 2024–25, the government has so far released Rs 818.04 crore towards VLR payments, indicating a renewed policy thrust to clear long-pending dues.
For several years, especially after 2019, disbursement under this scheme had slowed down, resulting in massive unpaid dues. However, the year-wise data showed that the programme has gained momentum once again, with the new administration making considerable payments within a short span.
Between the financial years 2014–15 and 2023–24, the cumulative demand for VLR payments stood at Rs 6,105.73 crore. Of this, Rs 3,030.43 crore was disbursed, leaving outstanding dues of Rs 3,075.31 crore. The payments were consistent and timely until 2018–19, but from 2019–20 onwards, there was a steep decline in releases.
For instance, while Rs 602.74 crore was required in 2019–20, only Rs 386.99 crore was paid. The situation deteriorated further in subsequent years, with minimal or no releases, particularly between 2021–22 and 2023–24, when the demand peaked at Rs 943.9 crore in 2021–22 alone.
This prolonged inaction appears to have been reversed after the Congress administration took charge as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Women & Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka took women empowerment as a challenge.
A look at the VLR district-wise data for the current FY 2024–25 paints a clear picture of renewed efforts of the government. Of the total `818.04 crore released under the VLR scheme, Rs 298.04 crore was paid between December 2023 and March 2024 and Rs 220.65 crore between April 2024 and January 2025.
Govt to allocate more funds for women empowerment
The government also released Rs 299.35 crore through the Integrated Management System (IMS), suggesting that the payments were not only timely but also systematised. Speaking to TNIE, Seethakka said: 'The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is striving to make women billionaires, and we have not confined ourselves to words but actions.'
'Our government intends to allocate more funds for women empowerment in the coming days,' she added.

Samik Roy, the newly appointed COO, will oversee the integration process. In 2024, the value of cross-border payment transactions was $162 trillion. Cross-border payments are challenged by issues like high fees, slow settlement times and poor transparency, making international transactions cumbersome and expensive. "This is where the opportunity is huge to help connect digital payment networks to facilitate global trade flows and make it easy for lower-value cross-border payments," said Jain. After the UPI platform launch, RS Software built the bill payments platform and in 2019 delivered the enterprise fraud and risk platform for the country.

Gadkari opens Rs 472-cr Sigandur bridge, CM and ministers boycott event
Shivamogga/Bengaluru: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari Monday inaugurated Sigandur bridge — India's second-longest cable-stayed structure — in Shivamogga district amid a political row as chief minister Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues boycotted the event claiming they were invited at the last minute. The Rs 472-crore bridge, built over Sharavathi backwaters between Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli in Sagar taluk, is expected to significantly cut travel time for devotees heading to Chowdeshwari temple in Sigandur, besides reconnecting villages cut off since the construction of Linganamakki dam in the 1960s. Gadkari, in a post on X, said an official invite was sent to the CM on July 11, followed by a letter on July 12, inviting his virtual presence. The CM acknowledged receiving the invite on July 11 but said "such last-minute communication cannot be considered due consultation". Proceeding with the event despite the state's explicit objection, he said, amounted to sheer arbitrariness and defied the spirit of cooperative federalism. Hours before the event, Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bengaluru, "As a mark of protest, none of us — PWD minister, district minister, Sagar MLA or I – are attending the inauguration. I had personally called Gadkari and asked him to postpone the programme. He said he would. But now, bowing to pressure from local BJP members, they went ahead with the event. I had a prescheduled event at Indi (in Vijayapura). It was scheduled a month ago and I'll be there. " Accusing the Centre of "deliberately" trying to create a rift between Centre and state, Siddaramaiah said, "It is they (Centre) who should invite us. Who started the friction? Protocol must be followed. The event is being held in our state, and we are in a federal system." About the controversy, deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "The CM should have been informed well in advance. The state govt should have been taken into confidence. The CM has already said in a letter that his event in Indi taluk is also important. More than Rs 2,000 crore is being provided by the irrigation department." A Rs 2cr prize dedicated to grassroots-level innovators

With a total prize pool of Rs 2 crore, Aarohan addresses the core problem of funding, a lack of which often stops grassroots-level innovation from taking wings. Prashant's vision is to serve the estimated 22 million disabled Indians, ensuring inclusivity and dignity for every individual. Created by Seetharam Muthangi from Bengaluru, these AI-enabled glasses help visually impaired individuals identify objects, people, and read printed material, even in regional languages. In women empowerment category, Shelter Associates, a Pune-based NGO, won for their One Home One Toilet initiative. They've developed a data-driven model to build household toilets for underprivileged women, helping improve hygiene, safety, and dignity.
