Qatar sees 194% surge in GenAI enrollments, 55% growth in professional certificates: Coursera
The report revealed that Qatar now leads the Arab world in technology and data science skills, scoring 64 percent in each domain, and also demonstrates strong performance in business skills with a score of 72 percent. These results align with the country's focus on digital and human capital development under its Digital Agenda 2030, which aims to boost professional competencies by 10 percent and grow the ICT sector to 3.5 percent of non-oil GDP by the end of the decade.
According to the report, Qatar ranks 3rd in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for overall skills proficiency, climbing to 40th place globally in 2025, up from 76th in 2023 and 58th in 2024, according to the platform's annual Global Skills Report. This leap reflects Qatar's ambitious push toward a diversified, knowledge-based economy and a future-ready workforce.
Drawing on data from Coursera's global community of over 170 million learners, the report identifies where skill proficiencies are rising, where gaps remain, and what drives learner behavior across more than 100 countries.
Qatar's growing investment in AI as a national priority is already shaping both learner behavior and employer demand. Based on the set of skills emphasized in the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, artificial intelligence and machine learning have emerged as the most in-demand skills among employers, with learner enrollments in these areas from Qatar rising by 145 percent. This surge supports the goals of Qatar's Artificial Intelligence Strategy and broader economic diversification agenda, especially as 41 percent of employees view AI as a crucial reskilling pathway.
In this context, Coursera's General Manager for the Middle East and Africa Kais Zribi said: "Driven by a clear vision for the future, Qatar is transforming its advanced digital infrastructure into a catalyst for AI-powered innovation and sustainable economic growth. Coursera's Global Skills Report 2025 underscores Qatar's commitment to human capital development as it proactively equips its workforce with advanced technical and job-relevant skills needed to excel in the digital age. This effort is poised to fuel further innovation, positioning Qatar as a regional leader in the digital economy."
Among Coursera's 10.8 million learners in MENA, over 200,000 are based in Qatar, with a median age of 36. Nearly half (49 percent) of these learners access the platform via mobile devices. Today, 9 percent of Qatar's labor force is actively learning on Coursera, reflecting the nation's vision for digital fluency and workforce readiness.
New to this year's report is the AI Maturity Index, which assesses countries' readiness for AI by combining Coursera learner data with external metrics from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Qatar ranks 45th globally out of 109 countries and among the top five in the region, signaling strong potential for AI-driven growth.

QNA Doha The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has announced the opening of local nominations for the World Summit Awards 2025 (WSA 2025) competition, with applications open until 28 August 2025. MCIT invites individuals, companies, and local institutions to submit their most innovative digital projects and applications to represent the State of Qatar globally. The WSA supports national efforts in digital transformation and encourages local digital innovation, enhancing Qatar's global standing in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030. Held annually, the World Summit Awards aim to honour and promote innovative digital projects that harness cutting-edge technologies to address social challenges and improve the quality of daily life. The Awards serve as an effective tool to advance digital innovation and expand its potential, contributing to building a better future for all. The competition features eight categories: Government & Citizens; Health & Well-being; Learning & Education; Environment & Green Energy; Culture & Heritage; Smart Settlements & Urbanization; Business & Commerce; and Inclusion & Empowerment. The evaluation of Qatar's submitted projects is conducted by a local jury composed of distinguished experts and specialists, appointed by Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in her capacity as Qatar's national expert for the award. The jury will select one nominee per category to represent the State of Qatar on the global stage. Projects must meet stringent evaluation criteria, necessitating full implementation on the ground; prototypes or drafts are not eligible for consideration. The submitted projects must reflect the competition's goals by showcasing innovative and high-quality digital transformation, and must have been produced within two years prior to the submission date. All entries must adhere to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ensuring they contain no content that promotes violence, war, or racial discrimination. Furthermore, projects must not infringe upon internationally recognized copyright and intellectual property rights. The jury reserves the right to reject any project that violates these guidelines. In this context, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT, Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori said: 'The World Summit Awards represent an extension of our ongoing efforts to drive digital transformation and strengthen the digital economy ecosystem in the State of Qatar. 'This global competition serves as a platform to showcase impactful digital innovations that align with our priorities in supporting entrepreneurs and technology-driven projects aimed at improving quality of life. We view this initiative as a strategic opportunity to highlight national talents and promising Qatari projects on the global stage, reflecting the significant progress achieved under the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.' The competition progresses through several stages, beginning with a pre-selection process at the local level from each country, where the submitted projects are evaluated and the best eight projects are selected - one for each category, followed by the evaluation and the nomination of the eight projects by an online jury, then the final evaluation of the projects submitted by the participating countries is carried out by a grand jury of experts in this field, where in this phase the best 40 projects are selected - five for each category. The final phase will include holding the World Summit Awards events and celebrating international digital innovation by displaying the winning projects in the presence of representatives from the participating countries and specialists in the field of communications and information technology. The World Summit Awards aim to raise awareness of high-quality digital content and its ability to drive positive societal change. The competition promotes emerging digital projects and innovative applications that contribute to the development of advanced digital infrastructure. Moreover, the competition facilitates international forums that bring together startups, decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and IT experts. Qatar joins Arab meet on financial reforms
QNA Cairo State of Qatar participated in the 34th regular session of the Committee on Coordination and Follow-up of Arab Organizations, which convened on Sunday at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo. Qatar was represented by a delegation from its Permanent Mission to the League of Arab States, headed by First Secretary at the Mission, Dr Issa SalemAl Kuwari. Over the course of five days, the meetings will address various administrative, financial, organisational, and structural issues related to specialised Arab organisations. The outcomes will be submitted to the 116th regular session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 3. The committee will also review reports and recommendations from the Technical Committee on the Unified Basic Regulations, based on its two sessions held in November 2024 and June 2025. In this context, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations (Technical Secretariat of the Committee), Dr Raed Al Jubouri, explained that the committee convenes annually to discuss reports from financial oversight bodies and heads of internal audit units of specialised Arab organisations. It also reviews final accounts, external audit reports, periodic reports on the scheduling of member states' arrears to the budgets of Arab organisations, reports from the Arab Monetary Fund, and updates on the participation of the General Secretariat in legislative and executive meetings of the specialisedorganisations. He noted that two technical committees were formed under the committee's umbrella: one focused on unifying the basic regulations of specialized Arab organisations, which developed and updated a unified basic system later approved by the Arab Economic and Social Council, and the other on unifying financial and accounting systems, which likewise received Council approval. Al Jubouri highlighted that over the past seven years, the Committee on Coordination and Follow-up and its subcommittees worked on preparing the foundational systems for self-financed Arab organizations, all of which have been formally adopted by the Arab Economic and Social Council.

Qatar Chamber explores stronger investment ties at Turkey forum
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber participated in the 6th Joint Meeting of Arab and Turkish Chambers and the Arab-Turkish Economic Forum, which were held in the city of Izmir, Turkey, on July 7–8. The events were attended by presidents and board members of Arab chambers and federations of chambers. The Qatar Chamber delegation was headed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of the Board. The meeting and forum addressed discussions on economic and trade cooperation between Arab countries and the Republic of Turkey, and ways to enhance such cooperation in order to increase trade exchange between both events featured a roundtable titled 'Partnership and Investment Opportunities between Arab Countries and Turkey', along with several working sessions focusing on investment in Syria and business opportunities in Izmir, particularly in the sectors of trade, industry, and agriculture. In a press statement on the sidelines of the forum,Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani said that this distinguished gathering represents a valuable opportunity to explore optimal ways to strengthen economic and trade cooperation, enhance investment prospects, and promote greater mutual and joint investments, both in Turkey and Arab countries. He praised the strong and longstanding relations between Qatar and Turkey, affirming the Qatar Chamber's commitment to fostering and advancing cooperation and partnerships between Qatari and Turkish business communities. Sheikh Khalifa also invited Turkish businessmen and investors to explore the wealth of investment opportunities available in Qatar and to benefit from its attractive investment climate, world-class infrastructure, advanced financial system, and progressive legal framework. The event included several field visits to factories and free zones in the city of Izmir. It also featured bilateral meetings between representatives of Arab and Turkish chambers from various economic sectors.
