Snatch theft suspect arrested within 24 hours in Kota Bharu
The incident took place at 7.28 pm on Sunday when a woman had her handbag stolen by a man on a red Yamaha Ego Gear motorcycle.
District police chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended around 9 am the following day.
Several items, including the motorcycle used in the crime, were seized during the operation. The victim suffered losses amounting to RM220, and the case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect was connected to five other snatch theft cases reported in Kota Bharu. A urine test conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs. He will be brought to the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court for a remand application. - Bernama

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three policemen claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here for allegedly extorting RM10,000 from two Thai nationals last year. Koperal Mohd Shukri Amran, 35; Koperal Mohammad Faizal Mirdukhim @ Mustapa, 43; and Koperal Muhammad Arifshah Zulkefli, 23, were jointly charged on Friday (Aug 1) with deliberately extorting Anotai Saentawe and Suwit Sake by instilling fear that harm would befall them, thereby inducing them to hand over RM10,000. The offence was allegedly committed at a petrol station in Juru (southbound) along the North-South Expressway at 1.30am on Sept 26, 2024. The accused, who were attached to the Central Seberang Perai police headquarters, were charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code. The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari requested bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each of the accused. However, counsel for the accused appealed for lower bail, citing their responsibilities in supporting their families. Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit granted bail of RM4,000 with one surety each and set Sept 12 for mention. Meanwhile, another policeman from the same police headquarters was charged separately with abetting the alleged extortion. Koperal Muhammad Nizar Mat Axid, 40, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before magistrate Nurul Rasyidah in the same court on Friday. He was charged with abetting Mohd Shukri, Mohammad Faizal, and Muhammad Arifshah in intentionally committing extortion against the same two Thai nationals. The offence was allegedly committed at a rented house at No. 32, Jalan Setia 2, Taman Setia, at 2.30am on the same day. The charge was framed under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 385, which also provides for a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any two of the punishments upon conviction. The court set bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 12 for mention.

Four students detained over assault of classmate in Kajang
KUALA LUMPUR: Four 13-year-old male students have been detained by police to assist in investigations into the assault of a classmate at a shopping centre in Kajang. Kajang police Chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the boys were detained following a report lodged by their classmate at 12.57pm yesterday. Investigations revealed that the incident occurred around 11am on July 30 when the complainant and his classmates visited the shopping centre to resolve a disagreement. 'During the incident, a viral video captured the complainant being assaulted by two students, while two others recorded the act using their mobile phones,' he said in a statement today. The victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. According to Naazron, the four students were arrested at 8.35pm yesterday in Kajang and remanded for two days until Aug 2 to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 for criminal intimidation, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. He advised students to always obey school rules and avoid actions that could affect their future.
