Tamil Nadu CM Stalin discharged from Chennai hospital after therapeutic procedure
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin was discharged from a private hospital in Chennai on Sunday evening after undergoing a successful therapeutic procedure to treat variations in heart rate, the hospital said. After experiencing mild dizziness, the CM Stalin underwent medical examination and a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors.(PTI) On July 21, Stalin experienced dizziness during his morning walk and underwent medical examination, followed by a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors. According to the Apollo Hospital, where the CM was admitted, Stalin has been declared fit for discharge and has been advised to resume his regular activities after three days of rest. After experiencing mild dizziness. Even after being hospitalised, CM Stalin continued reviewing government programmes and initiatives from the hospital room, PTI news agency reported. He also underwent an angiogram earlier, after which no blockage was found in the blood vessels, senior DMK leader and Minister Duraimurugan told PTI. Apollo Hospital had earlier said that after performing several diagnostic tests, it was found that the giddiness was only due to some variations in the heartbeat. An angiogram was performed afterwards, which came out to be normal. Meanwhile, earlier on Sunday, CM Stalin had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting urgent demands related to education, infrastructure, railways, and the welfare of people in Tamil Nadu. In his petition, CM Stalin demanded that funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme be released and urged the Centre to implement railway projects that were sanctioned over a decade ago but still remain inactive. The petition emphasised the need for the centre's cooperation in implementing crucial projects and addressing long-pending issues. The petition sent to the centre, also raised strong concerns over the continued arrest and detention of Indian fishermen and the seizure of their boats by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to intervene and find a permanent diplomatic solution personally.

Bengaluru: The closure of several Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) inside govt hospitals in Karnataka has pitted the BJP-led Centre against the state's Congress govt, which said the move is "administrative". Replying to a question from Belagavi BJP MP and former CM Jagadish Shettar, Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilizers Anupriya Patel said last week that the Centre had written to the state govt in response to the decision to close down the JAKs. Patel said the Centre urged the state govt to reconsider its decision as the generic drugs distribution network had close to 1,500 shops in the state that accounted for a turnover of Rs 5,700 crore. It reasoned that the JAKs, meant for the poor, needed to be kept open for patients coming to state-run hospitals for treatment. "There have been routine complaints to the health department that the medications prescribed by our hospital doctors are made unavailable in our in-house pharmacy and patients are redirected to JAKs to procure the same in generic forms," said a senior health department official. According to the state govt, yet another complaint is that JAKs were in fact selling branded medications while they should only be selling generic ones. This has been confirmed by the food safety and drug administration unit, the health department claimed. According to the department officials, the closure of JAKs is restricted to only 80-85 of these centres, with the remaining 1,400 JAKs being up and running in the state. In fact, the state govt has even decided to close its own additional pharmacy units called Janata Bazaar on hospital premises. There are 15 of them in the state. Speaking to TOI, health secretary Harsh Gupta, while admitting the department is in possession of the central govt letter, said it is yet to discuss the content with minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. "We will have a detailed discussion on the issue with the minister and then take an informed decision," he said. 10.18 crore women screened for cervical cancer under Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and NHM
New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has achieved a major milestone in women's health, with over 10.18 crore women aged 30 years and above screened for cervical cancer across the country. This achievement is part of the population-based initiative for screening, prevention, and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), being implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM) through the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs). The screening programme targets women in the 30 to 65 years age group, using the Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) method. Screenings are primarily conducted at Sub-Health Centres and Primary Health Centres under AAMs by trained health workers. Women who test VIA-positive are referred to higher centres for diagnostic confirmation and further evaluation. At the grassroots level, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) play a vital role in identifying individuals at risk using the Community-Based Assessment Checklist (CBAC) and facilitating their participation in screening and check-ups at AAMs. ASHAs also help generate awareness about the importance of early detection and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Promotion of wellness activities and targeted communication campaigns at the community level further support the preventive aspect of cancer control. Events such as National Cancer Awareness Day and World Cancer Day are observed regularly. Additionally, the use of print, electronic, and social media platforms ensures continuous public engagement on NCDs, including cervical cancer. Under NHM, States and Union Territories are provided with dedicated funds for awareness generation activities as per their Program Implementation Plans (PIPs). To accelerate screening coverage, the Ministry had launched a time-bound NCD Screening Campaign from February 20 to March 31, 2025, focusing on individuals aged 30 years and above. The campaign played a crucial role in achieving the current milestone. As of 20th July 2025, data from the National NCD Portal indicates that 10.18 crore women out of an eligible population of 25.42 crore females aged 30 years and above have been screened for cervical cancer, reflecting the government's strong commitment to comprehensive and preventive healthcare delivery through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, stated this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
