My wild night out in Soho House with Patrick Kielty proves why he won't be single for long following Cat Deeley split

They added: 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.'
Growing up in Belfast I knew Patrick - who everyone there calls Paddy or PK - long before he was Mr Cat Deeley when, in fact, most people in England wouldn't have even heard of him.

And it was our link to home that led to us having a very wild night out together.
I was 25 and working on a showbiz column at a national newspaper while
He had just made his West End debut in A Night in November, a play about a man struggling with his religious identity in Northern Ireland after the Republic of Ireland qualified for the 1994 World Cup.
Understanding the subject matter,I'd been asked to go along to review it and brought my boyfriend at the time as he was from Northern Ireland and was an old friend of Paddy's. We were also invited to attend the afterparty at the now defunct celebrity nightclub Bungalow 8.
The party was jam-packed with most of Paddy's family and friends and the bar tab quickly ran out.

We caught up with Paddy, who was exasperated at how quickly everyone was sinking the free booze. He jokingly told us the club manager had advised him £2000 was usually enough for drinks for the night for a group of our size but it had gone within the hour.

He remarked: 'Of course the Irish will drink the place dry especially if someone else is paying.'
I can remember being so shocked at the time on my lowly salary as a junior showbiz journalist that he could afford more than four times my monthly rent for a few drinks.
Later on Paddy came over and invited myself and my boyfriend to join him at Soho House on Greek Street for drinks. I had never been there before but had seen it in TV shows so was determined to go along.
At that time there was only one venue in London and it was incredibly exclusive. It held such an allure for me that I was thrilled to get to go behind the velvet curtain of the member's club.

Paddy comforted me and offered me some advice 'Listen you are a lovely Belfast girl but Northern Irish boys are all bad news'.
There were about eight of us in the group - myself, my boyfriend, a few girls and then Paddy, who very generously ordered us all burgers and bottles of champagne on tap.
In the early hours and after a lot of fizz (in those days the club stayed open as late as the members wanted it to with much more relaxed closing times) I returned from the toilet to find one of the extremely beautiful girls that was with us sitting on my boyfriend's knee.
'BIT OF AN EEJIT'
He had been incredibly flirty with her all night and I was upset at the sight before me. I went to the toilet to compose myself (and ring my best friend who lived in America at the time for advice on how to handle the situation).
When I came outside Paddy was waiting for me at the door.
'I thought you might be upset so I wanted to check you were alright. He's getting on like a bit of an eejit so I don't think you should go in there.'

I will admit by this stage of inebriation and being quite young and upset that my boyfriend wasn't behaving well, I started to cry.

He then told me that despite wanting to go in and cause a whole row over his behaviour, that the better thing to do would be to just do an 'Irish exit' and go home without saying goodbye and keep my dignity and leave him wondering where I went.
He even called me an Addison Lee taxi on account and told them to take me wherever I needed to go. This is before Ubers so I NEVER got taxis and always navigated numerous night buses to get home.
CAT'S CAREER
1997
: Cat gets her TV break presenting MTV's chart show Hitlist UK alongside Edith Bowman.

She hits the big time with sketch comedy series SM:TV Live and music show CD:UK with Ant & Dec on ITV.

2006
: She bags job fronting long-running US reality show So You Think You Can Dance.
2024

He was right of course and I was grateful to get home safely to my bed without causing a scene.
A few weeks later I was chatting to my fellow Northern Irish pal,
She was living in LA at the time and dating Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Meltcalfe.

They had got into a row in a club and Paddy, who was also there, came over and encouraged the Girls Aloud star to get the upper hand by just leaving instead of continuing fighting.
We chuckled that
Paddy actually spoke about Nadine and the sexy gardener's bust up back in 2007 on Chris Moyles Breakfast Show on BBC1 Radio 1.
SUPERHERO PADDY
He said: "I've known Nadine for years. She and Jesse are always bickering. They had an argument in a club one night and I ended up dropping her home, so he wasn't that impressed with me.
"Then I bumped into them in this hotel foyer in Los Angeles and she was like 'Hey Paddy, what are you doing here? I'm going to a wee party tonight with Jesse, do you want to come?'
I bumped into Nadine at a hotel and she said, 'Hello Patrick, how are you? Have you met my boyfriend Jesse?'
'He glared and gave me that, 'You fancy my girlfriend' look. I could tell he hated me. I thought he was a bit of a tit."
"And I said 'Yeah, where's the party?' and he kind of looked at me and said 'It's just off Sunset but uh, you wouldn't know where that is'."
But he had a quickfire answer for the star.
Paddy is always someone who will stand up for the underdog and do what is right.
Kelly Allen
"I used to go out to an aunt of mine in Los Angeles whenever I was 18 for the summers and I said 'Oh no, I do - I used to landscape garden out in LA' - which I had done - but he just looked at me as if I was completely taking the waz out of him because he was the landscape gardener (on TV)!"

Paddy is always someone who will stand up for the underdog and do what is right.
In fact the first time I met him I was still a child and he came to my rescue.
I actually was only 11 when I first bumped into him when he was an aspiring TV presenter on a local kids show called SUS in 1993.
PAT'S CAREER
1991
: Patrick kicks off his stand-up comedy career at The Gasworks in Dublin.
1997
: He launches multiple shows in Ireland including show Patrick Kielty Almost Live.
2002 — 2003
: Co-hosts Fame Academy with Cat.
2005 — 2006
: He co-hosts Celebrity Love Island with Kelly Brook and then Fearne Cotton.
2012 — 2022
: Patrick makes a string of documentaries for the BBC and Northern Ireland TV shows and wins an RTS award.
2023
: He starts hosting The Late Late Show.
Dreaming of working in media, my mum got me tickets to be in the audience of the filming of the show at the UTV building - on the condition I took my two little brothers with me.
At six, my youngest brother Curtis was clearly too young to be there - I think we lied and said he was 10.

We were taken to a holding area and found ourselves among a gaggle of children who were all determined to get to the front of the crowd and get themselves on TV.
When the floor manager finally opened the doors, there was a rush to get into the studio and blag the best spot. In their haste, some bigger children pushed my brother over. Even now thinking back it was terrifying as he was on the floor and kids were running over the top of him.
Suddenly the dressing room door opened and Paddy walked out and, clocking what happened yelled 'Everyone stop'.

And everyone did.
He yanked my brother to his feet and said 'Are you alright fella? Do you want to walk in with me?'
We smugly were escorted by Paddy to the front of the audience and everyone we knew saw us on TV.
Despite his warning to me that he was 'bad news' I've never seen evidence of it. I've bumped into Paddy more over the years and he's always that same chatty local lad I met back in the 90s.
In fact the last time I saw him in November 2022 he was hosting a quiz for Tourism Ireland and complimented me for my excellent knowledge about Tayto crisps. We won of course.

Speaking previously she said: 'He rang me from a pub in Ireland. Bear in mind it was probably about 2 o'clock in the morning because they had had a lock-in.
I told him I was having a birthday brunch at the Beverley Hills Hotel to which he said 'I'll see you there'. He went home, set his alarm for 5am, got up, went to the airport, flew from Belfast to London then jumped on the first plane from London to LA.'
I've no doubt the funnyman, who has always been the most consummate gentleman to every woman I know, will be snapped up quickly.
After all, how many men exist that would do such a grand gesture as that?

Inside Katie Taylor's family life as dad Pete confirms her relationship status

Katie Taylor's dad confirmed that the champ is married after she was spotted wearing her wedding ring. The boxer sparked speculation after she was photographed wearing a ring on her left hand — usually reserved for married folks — earlier this week, but kept mum on any nuptials, being famously private when it comes to her family. However, her dad Pete confirmed in a recent podcast that his daughter is, in fact, married — although there is no info surrounding her new spouse. Katie sparked rumours that she was married after she was spotted with a wedding ring on her finger. Pic: KT Born to mum Bridget and dad Pete, Katie is the youngest of four children. She has two older brothers in Lee and Peter, and an older sister, Sarah. Katie's mum has previously spoken about her youngest being a 'tomboy' growing up, telling Mummypages: 'She wouldn't have been your typical girl. I have two girls and two sons. 'Katie was very close to her older brother, there's only a year and a couple of months between them, other people used to think they were twins when they were growing up!' Katie was trained by her father Pete for the 2016 Olympics, before dropping him as a coach after he left her mother for her friend. Pic: INPHO/Morgan Treacy While her dad trained her throughout her amateur boxing career, which culminated in Olympic gold, Katie fell out with Pete after he and his mother split up; with Pete marrying Katie's then-close friend, Karen Brown. Katie and her dad appeared to have reconciled in 2019, with the father-daughter duo stepping out together as Katie fought Amanda Serrano for the third time. 'She has good morals. She said if you've split up with my mother then I don't want you in my corner,' Pete said back in 2019. 'She knew what the outcome would be. She knew that she'd be missing me in the corner but she still had the morals to go ahead and do that. You've got to respect that.' Pete was also nearly killed in a shooting at the Bray boxing club in 2018, which saw Bobby Messett fatally injured. A man was eventually convicted of murdering Mr Messett in 2023. Katie also earned 11 caps for the Republic of Ireland women's team, scoring two goals. Pic: Matt Browne / SPORTSFILE While women's football is bigger than it ever was, and the Irish women's team made their first World Cup back in 2023, Katie could've easily been up there as the first star for the Girls in Green. Katie earned 11 caps for the Irish senior women's team, playing at school level for boys' teams (shades of her boxing beginnings, when she wasn't allowed to fight as a girl). She played for clubs including St James' Gate and Peamount United, winning a domestic treble with Peamount, and scored two goals for the Republic of Ireland women's team. After sparking speculation that she was married when she was spotted with a ring on her wedding finger. Despite being notoriously private about her personal life, Pete confirmed that his daughter was in fact married, telling the Anything Goes podcast 'Ever since the fight there with Katie, people are seeing the two of us back together, even some of the s**t you hear about that. 'I was reading somewhere that 'Katie Taylor never got married because her father wouldn't let her.' Katie's married,' Pete said. 'I'm thinking 'where are you getting this s**t from?'' Katie has never given up much about her romantic life, telling The Athletic a while ago that she hated getting those types of questions in interviews. When asked what was her least favourite question to hear, she said: 'Probably the question about relationships. That's another question people always ask. I guess people are just interested in my personal life. 'I get it all the time. It's a bit annoying at times but I'm just polite and get on with it. I don't think male boxers get asked it, though.' In 2019, however, she confirmed her (then) relationship status, telling the Mirror 'I'm not [seeing anyone] at the moment, I really genuinely haven't got the time. 'I'm just out in America training hard at the moment but who knows what could happen in the future.'

Rich pickings for antique hunters enjoying the fun of the fairs

Even though it is not on Route 66, antique lovers can get their kicks in Birr this bank holiday weekend. The antique and art fair, which runs in conjunction with Birr Vintage Week, will take place at the County Arms Hotel on Monday and Tuesday (August 4 and 5). With more than 30 dealers in antique furniture, art and collectables from around the country in attendance, this popular fair is a fixture at this time of year, as Birr celebrates all things retro with arts, theatre, music, street theatre, pop-up performances, workshops and exhibitions until August 9. There is treasure to be hunted for and found in this great period setting. The enjoyable and long-running antique fair offers a huge variety with everything from vintage Persian rugs to fine art, jewellery and antique furniture with collectables galore. A Persian Hamadan runner at the Birr antique fair. Rarities include a 31-foot-long Persian 1970s Hamadan runner. It is just 2ft 8in wide (9 metres by 900 centimetres). Norman Allison Antiques of Annamore, Co Wicklow, will include it among a selection of handwoven rugs and runners. Collectables are always popular and Robert Hutchinson will offer a display of coins, banknotes and militaria including complete selections of coins of Ireland from 1934, 1939 and 1942. There will be a selection of gold chains and charm bracelets at Eddie Moylan's stand and vintage jewellery from Cherylann. The Purple Onion Gallery will bring a selection of work by Henry McGrane and other artists from their stable. 'Framed by Wisteria' by Mark O'Neill will be at the Treasures Irish Art stand at the Birr antique and art fair. Treasures Irish Art of Athlone is a stalwart supporter of this fair. Its selection will include Framed by Wisteria by Mark O'Neill and Lough Inagh by Grace Cunningham. Organiser Robin O'Donnell confidently expects a great turnout of both regulars and newcomers to this heart of Ireland annual event. Along with rugs, Norman Allison will offer art by the English Victorian landscape painter William Shayer (1787-1879) and a Regency double fusee wall clock. Raymond Byrne will offer small antique furniture pieces, old Irish glass, silver and collectables. A double fusee wall clock at the Birr antique fair. Fairs like this are great hunting grounds for small pieces of silver, old Irish glass, fashion and accessories. You might not even know you really, really wanted it until you see it. And if the wait until Monday proves to be too much, then the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire is the venue for the South Dublin Antiques, Vintage & More Fair tomorrow (August 3). This fair will offer antique and vintage furniture and interior decor, fine art, vintage kitchen and tableware, jewellery, rare books and memorabilia. Dun Laoghaire is one of the most popular venues on the Vintage Ireland calendar of fairs.

Alex told us: 'We expected some coverage of 'It was an amazing experience to go through. It made me realise how lucky I was to have my father as a dad and as a friend.' Alex revealed he is only now getting to read the vast postbag of letters and cards his family have received since Henry's death — each one telling a story about how he touched or helped people. Alex continued: 'There's a moat around the castle and a massive drop. 'But one year this lunatic was so desperate to get to the afterparty, he jumped across the moat and landed on a window ledge. He could have killed himself but he was hanging there on a ledge on the side of the castle. 'FAIR PLAY' 'Now the obvious thing would have been to call security and get him booted out. Henry also loved picking up random hitchhikers on the road. Alex told The Irish Sun: 'Dad was always doing that because he loved being thrown into different situations and meeting people from a completely different background to himself. 'He felt you could learn so much from other people and it was a learning curve. 'I would often do the same.' He said: 'My dad changed the perception of the big house. For everyone in that situation, he did them a service. 'I think he showed there is a different way of doing things. 'Ireland has evolved and places like Slane Castle can still be relevant if you have the right approach and attitude as to how they operate — not just a role for the family, but for everyone.'
