Eisai pharma to set up global capability center in Vizag
: Eisai Pharma, a noted human health care pharmaceutical company, announced its plans to establish a new global capability center (GCC) in Visakhapatnam, further expanding its digital transformation and innovation footprint in India.
The announcement was made by Makoto Haketsu, global chief information officer of Eisai Pharma, during his visit to Gitam Deemed to be University on Wednesday.
Haketsu, accompanied by his core technical team, interacted with Vizag MP and GITAM president M Sribharat, who led the university's leadership team in hosting the delegation. The discussions centered around potential academic-industry collaborations and aligning digital healthcare initiatives with research and innovation.
Speaking on the occasion, Makoto Haketsu explained the company's commitment to accelerating digital transformation initiatives with robust support from the AP govt and the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone. "By bringing together exceptional digital talent, we aim to drive cutting-edge solutions that redefine how healthcare meets evolving needs," said Haketsu. Expressing strong interest in academic collaboration, he noted that GITAM could become a valuable partner in Eisai's mission to integrate digital innovation in healthcare.

During the interaction, Vizag MP Sribharat highlighted GITAM's focus on industry partnerships, innovation-driven education, and real-world research. "We are keen to explore joint research activities and collaborative technology development in areas such as data science, healthcare technologies, and pharmaceutical research with Eisai Pharma," he said.

IBM launches global test for PG progs in India
BENGALURU: IBM Q²D (Quantum Quotient Decode) has launched the IBM Global Entrance Test (GET) for students seeking admission to postgraduate programmes in India for the 2025-26 academic year. The entrance test will serve as the qualifying exam for MBA, MCA and MSc Computer Science programmes offered in collaboration with select Indian universities. S-VYASA Deemed-to-be University is the first institution in the country to implement this model. The university will offer the IBM-integrated programmes at its campus in Kengeri. Students admitted through GET will be trained under IBM's Q²D model, which aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The curriculum includes cloud labs, live industry projects, AI tools, internships and mentorship from IBM professionals. 'The entrance exam helps analyse each student's potential -- aptitude, logical reasoning and problem-solving -- and categorise them for personalised learning journeys. IBM is not running the university. We are collaborators ensuring students receive cutting-edge tech skills. ISRO Chairman highlights India's space achievements
Visakhapatnam: Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and secretary of the department of space V Narayanan highlighted India's remarkable strides in space exploration and technology. Delivering an inspiring address at GITAM Deemed to be University at a programme organised here on Wednesday, Dr Narayanan emphasised ISRO's role in furthering the nation's vision of self-reliance and global leadership in the space domain. Reflecting on ISRO's journey, Dr. Narayanan noted the organisation's evolution from launching small rockets with payloads of just 30-70 kg to deploying missions carrying up to 4,000-kg into outer space. Apart from highlighting India becoming the first nation to reach Mars orbit during its maiden attempt, the ISRO Chairman recalled several historic milestones achieved by the organisation, including the launch of a record-breaking 104 satellites in a single mission using PSLV-C37 and successful soft landing on the Moon's South Polar Region. He announced that India launched 434 satellites for 35 countries, demonstrating the global trust in ISRO's capabilities. Furthering its international collaborations, ISRO is now developing a satellite for G20 countries to monitor climate change, air pollution, and weather conditions. Dr. Narayanan underscored the ongoing NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission, an Earth-observing satellite project that uses advanced radar imaging to track changes in the earth's surface. Looking ahead, he affirmed India's aspiration to establish its first space station by 2040 and projected India as an emerging vibrant space power. He stressed that ISRO's innovations continue to serve the nation through major systems in communication, television broadcasting, meteorology, resource monitoring, and space-based navigation. Encouraging greater collaboration, Dr Narayanan invited academic institutions like GITAM to partner with ISRO to expand the country's space knowledge base and contribute to national development.
