Inside the perfect Scots family resort after £5m makeover, from animal experiences and playpark to incredible dining
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MANY of us will remember our gym teachers saying: 'Pack away the basketballs and hockey sticks, it's time for social dancing.' Those school sessions, where we'd enter an unknown land of Dashing White Sergeants and Gay Gordons, set us up for being whirled about at weddings and parties in later life. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 The hotel has had a major revamp 7 You get up close with red deer 7 Cocktails in the bar were a real treat 7 The adventure park is perfect for kids And I got to relive that dance floor adventure with my wee boy on a mini-break at Crieff Hydro. The stunning Perthshire resort is a haven for families, full of activities to entertain kids, both big and small. And, for me, our highlight was the Saturday night ceilidh, where I spun five-year-old Jimmy around the ballroom for jigs and reels, leaving us grinning like loons. We arrived on a rainy Friday and checked into our spacious family room with gorgeous views. Gin and tonics had been left for the adults while the wee one was delighted with a bag of pick and mix — welcome, thoughtful touches. Each day, guests are provided with a daily activity rota with fun to be had every hour. We ditched our cases and immediately headed for an Animal Man session, where youngsters were introduced to amazing creatures while the adults relaxed — at one point I spotted a chicken wandering across the ballroom, and I'd only had a half pint! After a quick jaunt round the expansive grounds, we got dressed for the evening activities, starting with cocktails in the Ballroom Bar. You couldn't ask for a better vista to enjoy a cool drink, looking out over the rolling Perthshire Hills. My Penicillin was bitter and punchy, just how I like it, while husband Ryan loved his decadent Kir Royale and Jimmy was delighted with his bubblegum spritz mocktail. Dinner was at one of the Hydro's new restaurants, East, established after a multi-million pound revamp. Serving Asian fusion small plates, the menu has so many tempting dishes. A couple of highlights were black pepper beef fillet and sticky corn ribs, while Jimmy hoovered up sticky pork belly. Ronan Keating enjoys family holiday It was early to bed as we were up at the crack of dawn for a delicious buffet breakfast before a Highland Safari, an amazing must-do experience just 40 minutes from the hotel. We packed into a Land Rover with an expert guide who drove us high into the mountains passing through Dull on the way — and the trip was anything but. We learned about the flora, fauna and history of the area while we gasped at the stunning scenery. Jimmy loved hearing some of the wackier facts, like how a woodpecker wraps its tongue around its brain to soften the impact of drilling into trees with its beak. 7 The views on the safari were stunning 7 East has amazing fusion flavours Next on the agenda was a red deer experience back at Highland Safari base. We found out all about the beautiful creatures before getting up close to feed them. And before we headed back to the hotel we got to pan for gold, sifting through stones to find hidden gems — I was hooked on delving deep for gemstones like jasper and pyrite. We arrived back at the Hydro around 3pm, just in time for a treasure hunt, looking for hidden clues in a bid to win a medal. Glory secured, we had time for a relaxing dip in the pool before more cocktails and dinner, this time at the family-friendly Italian Piccolo. And, after fuelling up on pizza and pasta, it was time for my main event, the ceilidh. GO: CRIEFF STANDARD double rooms from £120 per night for midweek bookings. Grab 15 per cent discount plus a free experience, such as afternoon tea or Action Glen Adventure passes, this summer. Find out more at We danced into the night with expert musicians taking us through the steps and throwing in kids' classics, like the Hokey Cokey, to keep everyone on their feet. We were checking out on Sunday, but not before we headed for the on-site Action Glen where you can try everything from mini Land Rovers and disc-golf to axe throwing and archery. We had a fantastic time sampling almost everything before home-time. Crieff Hydro really is an exceptional escape for families — and we'll be St Bernard's Waltzing back as soon as possible.

Report: The next two late-night hosts who could face axing
Two late-night mainstays could find themselves on the chopping block after helping NBC lose an eye-watering $100 million-plus per year. The shows of longtime hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, combined with the network's iconic sketch comedy series SNL, have created the nine-figure shortfall, it was reported this week. NBC officially declined to comment on the reported losses. But an insider told the Daily Mail that the three shows are actually losing closer to half that amount when taking into account revenue generated through sources like streaming and digital - though conceded they're still in the red. The news come days after CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, amid reports his program was losing $40 million per year. Many, including Colbert - a longtime critic of President Donald Trump - cited political motivations in the decision to pull the plug. But as the speculation swirls over CBS's decision, industry experts told the Daily Mail that NBC's silence on its own hosts' futures speaks volumes. 'They're letting the narrative take hold that Colbert was canceled purely for political reasons - and that works in their favor. It distracts from the financial bloodbath happening across the late-night industry,' said Rob Shuter, a veteran media columnist and author of Naughty But Nice. ' NBC isn't denying the $100 million [loss] because if everyone's talking about politics, they're not talking about whether these shows are even sustainable anymore.' Robert Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University, agreed. 'NBC would want people to think that CBS canceled Colbert for political reasons, not viewership,' he said. After news of Colbert's cancellation emerged, the host called himself a 'martyr' and told Trump to 'Go [expletive] yourself' as the president gloated publicly over the decision. Colbert had previously ripped the decision by CBS' parent company, Paramount Global, to pay Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit he filed over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris . The settlement was seen by many as a necessary move by the company to earn the Trump administration's approval of its $8 million merger with Skydance. Colbert more bluntly called it 'a big, fat bribe.' Colbert's Late Show has drawn hundreds of thousands more viewers than his closest late-night competitor, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel, whose show has remained profitable when non-traditional TV advertising revenue is taken into account, a source told CNBC. And while Kimmel and Meyers have been more aggressive in taking on Trump, Fallon has avoided the pile-on. 'If you're really making these deals Paramount are making, Colbert, Kimmel, and Meyers come off as a one-trick pony,' Thompson said. 'Fallon was the only one who didn't completely alter their brand to make fun of the president.' Shuter said Fallon's style could ultimately end up saving his skin - but not forever. 'Fallon didn't pivot hard into anti-Trump satire, and that may have bought him time. But let's be clear - this isn't about politics anymore. It's about money,' he said. 'The moment a format stops printing cash, the ideology behind it becomes a footnote.'

Hollywood A-Lister confesses he had sex on Disneyland ride - 'It was f***ed up'
The 40-year-old actor confessed that he had a rather X-rated ride on one of the family-friendly theme park's attractions in a recent podcast interview - and that wasn't all of it A famous face, known for his acting in a number of hit 2010s movies, appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast and admitted to having sex at Disneyland. Dave Franco, fellow famous brother of James Franco and an actor who appeared in classic comedies such as Superbad, Bad Neighbors, and 21 Jump Street, has caused quite the stir with his recent confession. The film star sat down with host Alex Cooper on Wednesday and told tales about his mischievous past. During their candid chat, the two of them playfully discussed some of his most memorable wild moments. One of the times he mentioned was throwing candy at his middle school crush, and the unhinged night he first met his wife. In one particular segment named 'Confess or Text,' Dave revealed something that had Alex in complete shock. When asking the actor about the wildest place he'd ever had sex, he shared: "Um, something may have happened at one point on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland." The pair burst into fits of laughter, and Alex fell into laughter before he added: "The funny f****ed up thing about that is I think there are cameras on every inch of that place, but we were pretty covert... we'll leave it at that." Alex couldn't believe what she had just heard and told the Hollywood star she was "obsessed" with him, while he joked that his face had turned red. Dave officially started dating his wife, Alison Brie, back in 2012, after meeting at a New Orleans Mardi Gras party in 2011, and they were engaged three years later. They tied the knot in 2017, and as fans anticipated the two starting a family, Alison stated in an interview that same year that she does not want to have any children. The married couple shared the screen together in a recent horror film created by Michael Shanks, called Together. Neon Films shared a flirty snap of Dave and Allison kissing in front of a billboard of themselves as their on-screen couple, captioned, "the perfect date night horror movie.' Alison spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about what it was like working with her husband—especially when it came to the intimacy side of things. She explained: "Both of us have done intimate scenes with other actors, of course, but without giving too much away, a lot of this film requires close proximity from its two leads to a greater extent than anything I've done before. "I think we pretty much finished every day of shooting and said to one another, "I don't know how you could make this movie without a real-life couple because of some of the situations we found ourselves in." However, it's not the first time the couple has found themselves in a bit of a sticky situation on set, as Dave had previously directed his wife in the movie Somebody I Used To Know. At the time of its release, Alison discussed what filming those sex scenes was like, clarifying that "we are actors, and this is our job." She added: "It's actually not that weird. And with something like this, because it's our baby that we made together, I think our first priority is always just the movie."
