TTD inaugurates advanced lab to test food quality, ghee in-house
Tirupati, Jul 22 (PTI) Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman BR Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated a food quality testing laboratory in Tirumala, which will test ghee and prasadam, officials said.
The chairman noted that samples, which had to be sent to other states for testing earlier can now be tested directly in Tirumala itself with state-of-the-art equipment, a release said.
According to TTD executive officer J Syamala Rao, earlier there was no facility to test the quality of ghee in Tirumala and now for the first time equipment like GC (Gas Chromatograph) and HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatograph) have been installed.
He noted that this equipment has the ability to instantly analyze adulteration and quality percentage of ghee.
Equipment worth Rs 75 lakh was donated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) of Gujarat, said Rao.
Further, he observed that lab staff and potu (kitchen) workers have undergone special training at Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysore.
Moreover, he said arrangements have been made to check the quality of prasadams in this lab to provide results immediately. PTI STH ADB

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories' net profit slumps 11 pc to Rs 14,09 crore sequentially in Q1
Mumbai: Dr. Reddy's Laboratories' net profit stood at Rs 1,409.6 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal (Q1 FY26), down 11 per cent sequentially, the company said in an exchange filing on Wednesday. The company had reported a consolidated profit of Rs 1,587.3 crore in the preceding quarter (Q4 FY25). However, the profit of the Hyderabad-based firm saw a marginal jump of over a per cent on year-on-year (YoY) from Rs 1,392 crore in the same quarter a year ago, according to the filing. Meanwhile, Dr. Reddy's Labs revenue stood at Rs 8,545.2 crore in the quarter under review, up around Rs 40 crore sequentially from Rs 8,506 crore, and Rs 872.5 crore year-on-year (YoY) from Rs 7,672.7 crore. The pharmaceutical company saw a jump of Rs 153 crore in its total operating expenses this quarter QoQ, leading to a decline in its net profit. The company reported total operating expenses of Rs 3,115.2 crore in Q1 FY26 against Rs 2,961.6 crore in Q4 FY25. "We delivered double-digit growth this quarter over the same period last year, reflecting our strength in branded markets and positive momentum in the Nicotine Replacement Therapy portfolio. The pricing pressure on Lenalidomide is expected to intensify in the U.S. generics market," said GV Prasad, Co-Chairman and MD. "We remain focused on strengthening our base business by delivery of our pipeline assets, improving overall productivity and business development," Prasad added. Meanwhile, the company has expanded partnership with Alvotech to co-develop, manufacture and co-commercialise pembrolizumab, a biosimilar candidate, this quarter, as per the filing. It has also launched Sensimune in India, an immunotherapy product for house dust mite-induced allergies. The shares of the company closed in positive territory on Wednesday. The stock settled at Rs 1,248.0, up 0.65 per cent. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories is a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Hyderabad.

Amid complaints, PGI delays uploading Amrit medicine rates online
1 2 Chandigarh: Despite a year passing since the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) announced its decision to upload the rates of medicines supplied by Amrit (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) on its website to prevent overcharging, the initiative remains incomplete. Sources indicate that the PGI administration is still in the process of implementing this crucial transparency measure, even as complaints of Amrit stores overcharging patients compared to the open market continue to surface. PGI boasts the largest network of Amrit stores in the country, with nine outlets operating within its premises. A significant point of contention arises from the allocation of a prime retail space at the PGI emergency. This space, which previously commanded a monthly rental of Rs 2 crore, was reportedly shut down and re-allotted to Amrit two years ago at a significantly reduced rental of not more than Rs 1 lakh per month. A faculty member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, "The rental to Amrit is not more than Rs 1 lakh per month. Consequently, the drug prices should be the lowest, or any profit generated by these stores should benefit PGI and the patients." The absence of real-time drug rates displayed publicly has seemingly created an environment where several drug stores within the hospital are allegedly taking advantage of the high patient footfall, leading to instances of overcharging. "Patients, often in vulnerable situations, are left without a clear reference point for fair pricing, making them susceptible to inflated costs. The delay in uploading the rates online exacerbates this issue, leaving patients without the promised safeguard against fleecing," said a faculty member.
