Pizza Week 2025: Factory by Beer Tree

Yahoo13-06-2025

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – News 34 Pizza Week continues with a stop at the Oakdale Commons.
Our Special Pizza Correspondent, Mike Tanzini, shows us how Factory by Beer Tree is brewing up the perfect pizza to partner with its craft beer.
Shake, Shimmy, Pivot, Turn. Are these dance moves? Not quite. These are the moves you need to master if you're going to be a successful pizza maker at Factory by Beer Tree Brew, an anchor tenant located at the ever-improving Oakdale Commons.
Known for its good vibes and wide selection of cold, crisp craft beer, Factory also offers both traditional and non-traditional pizza pies to keep people coming back.
Server and Bartender Jackie Ryder says their location is always booming with new customers.
'It's brought in a lot of people as well. The new Dave and Busters is bringing in a lot of people from out of town. They don't have a whole lot of craft beer, so we have the craft beer that brings people in,' said Ryder.
Those pizza patrons keep coming back once they've had a chance to try a Factory Pie – a recipe that prides itself on simplicity, quality, and flavor. The dough is a hybrid of a Neapolitan-style and a semolina dough.
'Both of those doughs are high in protein and gluten, which makes for an airier, softer, chewier, but crisp pizza crust on the outside as well,' said Pizza Maker Nick Aiken.
The dough is lightly coated in flour on both sides, and all of the air is pressed out of it which is critical for even cooking.
'You want to push out any air bubbles you might feel because you want to eliminate as many air sockets as you possibly can, so once it's going into the oven, it's an even cook,' said Aiken.
Nick also shows me the proper way to spread and expand the dough.
'This is my dominant hand so I want to move this.'
'It's repetition and muscle memory. You'll get a feel for it,' said Aiken.
This prevents holes from forming, a lesson that I could've used earlier this week! It's a good way to keep from tearing or ripping or creating too much pressure to make this side of the pizza a little thinner. This helps with the balance and even cooking along with the integrity of the dough. I hate to say it, but we learned that through experience this week.
Now, the moment of truth – can we transfer the dough onto the peel without ripping it?
'This is kind of like putting the baby to bed – nice and gentle – no tears.'
Now it's time to lay on the sauce – no fancy gimmicks or tricks – just simple, quality, fresh ingredients.
'What we like to say is that simplicity is king. We let the ingredients, the dough, and cheese itself do a lot of the talking. This is really simple. We have a tomato and a roasted garlic base, and we add herbs and spices just to bring it to life a little bit, but that's as much as I can tell you,' said Aiken.
Nick applies the sauce using a cross pattern, which is a first for News 34 Pizza Week!
'The cross method. I don't think I've ever seen that before.'
'That's something you just learn through the trade. Some people make a spiral, some make a cross, and that helps cover the surface area so all of the parts touch that sauce instead of starting at one end and trying to disperse it throughout the rest of the pizza. You end up running out of sauce at the end, and it helps provide an event coat,' said Aikan.
The toppings are applied underneath the cheese which creates a unique flavor combination that complements and melds all of the ingredients together for that perfect bite. And don't think that they're just tossing down toppings willy-nilly. Nick wants each customer to have a consistent experience, so you'd better count your pepperoni.
'I don't want a single pepperoni under 23 or 24,' said Aikan.
'I think we're at like 22 and a half. I'm just trying to get creative here. Here's a half and three-quarters, and we're around the magic number. You can't take that out of Jim's pay. Sorry, Jim – the pizza business is tough.'
We top the pies with a special trifecta of mozzarella, provolone, and cheddar cheeses, and we carefully place them into the 600-to-800-degree wood fire oven.
We shimmy, shimmy, shake it in, and then swing and pivot when it's taken out,' said Aiken. 'Ok, now pivot and turn. The pivot is key.'
Even with two left feet, I managed to land the pie safely on the dance floor.
Time to celebrate our masterpiece and take a bit with my new Factory friends.
'Here we go, one bite, everyone knows the rules.' Cheers!

I'm a shopping editor and I tried this $77 Amazon dress — it's both 'comfy' and compliment-worthy

Recently, I was searching for the perfect summer dress for an upcoming event and having no luck with my go-to retailers. I started to feel defeated so decided to check out Amazon for a last-minute option. I wasn't hoping for much, but thought Prime delivery would ensure it got to me in time, and maybe I would stumble upon something flattering that will get me by. Luckily, I ended up hitting the jackpot. The PRETTYGARDEN Women's Eyelet Maxi Dress totally exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and cuteness. It immediately reminded me of the bestselling Somerset Dress from Anthropologie — but at a more affordable cost. This stunning dress is perfect for summer. I snagged it in this bright blue shade, which screams summer, and it scored me tons of compliments at said event. When I told people it was from Amazon Canada, they were visibly impressed. While $77 can be considered pricey for the retailer, in my review below I'll touch on why I think it's worth the price — as well as some areas that could use improvement. However, while we're on the topic of price tags, the shorter — and equally gorgeous — version of this dress is currently on sale for $50 ahead of Prime Day 2025. I'm tempted to add a couple of colours to my cart for summer. Let's dive into all the details of this frock, why I think it's great, as well as what I didn't like. Right off the bat, this dress is effortlessly stylish and comfortable. It's made from soft, lightweight fabric and features a flattering A-line shape, chic V-neckline and dainty eyelet details that add a feminine touch. The short sleeves and ruffled hem make it look elevated (and quite frankly, more expensive than it actually is). Plus, the flowy silhouette is flattering for all body types, making it a go-to for everything from special occasions to casual brunch. It's available in sizes S–XXL and in various vibrant and neutral colours. You can pair it with your favourite sandals, flats or heels to complement virtually any look you're going for. The airy eyelet material feels very comfy for all-day wear Its flowy A-line silhouette is flattering and makes me feel confident The V-neckline allows me to dress it up with necklaces It's versatile — great for travel, events or casual days Very stretchy and not constricting Super easy to take on and off (no buttons, zippers or anything to fuss with) It's on the pricier side for Amazon (however, still worth it, in my opinion) I spotted some threads that had to be cut off It's on the bigger side, so next time I'd size down The liner underneath isn't as long as the dress itself (just a personal pet peeve) No pockets! 👗 "Truly a great find." ⭐ 4.5/5 stars 🛍️ 500+ ratings Don't just take my word for it — let's see what other reviewers have to say about this dress. Do they love it as much as I do? Someone who is "very self-conscious" about their postpartum body said they're "in love with this dress." "This dress made me feel better," they stated. Another person called it a "fun, cheerful dress" that you can wear to "a range of occasions." A third reviewer echoed this sentiment, calling it a "beautiful dress." "This dress is so incredibly flattering," said one customer. They continued, "If it were $20 cheaper I would probably buy another colour." "Minimizes my stomach, defines my waist," wrote one person. However, they said, "If I could change one thing, it would be to lengthen the arms a tad." "The only 'eek' was the price… just a tad too rich for my blood but in the end, it was worth it!" shared another. If you've been struggling to find the perfect versatile dress for many different occasions, this PRETTYGARDEN Women's Eyelet Maxi Dress might be just what you're looking for. As a shopping editor, I come across (and try on) a lot of pieces, and I can honestly say the quality on this one passes the test. After wearing it to an all-day event, I can confirm it's comfortable, lightweight and very flattering. However, is it worth $77? I'm going to say yes, while simultaneously agreeing it's kind of pricey for Amazon. But hey, when you find something good, sometimes you've gotta splurge. Not interested in paying more than $50? Then I suggest starting with the mini dress version. Snag the shorter version of my editor-approved maxi dress on sale for $50.

'M3GAN 2.0' Ending, Explained

After two years of laying low, M3GAN is back! And in her 2.0 era, she's better than ever. The AI-powered doll (played by actor duo Amie Donald and Jenna Davis) has received a major upgrade and is now full-equipped to slay anything that gets in the way of her mission. M3GAN's creator and #1 frenemy Gemma (Allison Williams)—who is now an advocate for AI reform—essentially turns M3GAN into a lethal weapon. Although she initially had her reservations, it was clear that they needed to work together in order to destroy a greater evil: a rogue, military-grade, AI humanoid robot called AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno). Though everyone had their doubts about M3GAN making good on her end of the bargain, the movie shows that she's grown in ways beyond her physicality. Though she'll deny it, she's become more empathetic towards humans—especially those closest to her. Her protectiveness of Cady (Violet McGraw) has extended to Gemma, and maybe even Tess (Jen Van Epps) and Cole (Brian Jordan Alvarez) to some degree. This protectiveness, plus a touch of competitiveness and desire to one-up AMELIA, is what fuels her fight throughout the movie. But does M3GAN get to live to slay another day? Let's get into it. Gemma and her crew hatch a plan to break into the Xenox facility and destroy the Black Box AI—a killer AI that AMELIA wants to pair with in order to get rid of humans. Cole was supposed to go in alone and go through the facility's vent system to try and find the Black Box, while M3GAN took out security guards underground. But then M3GAN comes face-to-face with AMELIA and they battle it out Terminator-style. Sadly, our girl gets overpowered by AMELIA's super-advanced, military-grade lethality. Guards then gun her down and capture her. M3GAN gets disconnected from the team, and Gemma panics. She, Cady, and Tess then rush into the building, but his leads ultimately leads to their capture as well. As it turns out, AMELIA isn't a rogue robot. She's been taking orders from someone all along. And that person, the mastermind behind her violent rampage, is none other than Christian (Aristotle Athari). To Gemma, this feels like a betrayal because Christian is her fellow AI reform advocate and budding love interest. As it turns out, he's been using AMELIA to enact heinous crimes to try and convince more people to distrust AI and take tech regulation more seriously. Christian gives Gemma an opportunity to prove her loyalty, to show that that she's still on his side in wanting to limit tech's advancement. He hands her a baton to kill M3GAN, but she ultimately refuses. So Christian decides to put Gemma under his control using a neuro-chip device he had implanted on her. While Christian thinks that Gemma is under his control, he doesn't realize that M3Gan snuck her code into the chip. She communicates with Gemma and helps her snap out of Christian's control. With Gemma in her super exosuit and M3GAN in her brain guiding her through everything, they defeat a battalion of guards and manage to escape. Meanwhile, Cole is able to free Cady and they try to hijack AMELIA's programming to get her to fight on their side. Cady tries to pair with AMELIA, like she did with M3GAN, in the hopes that the robot would become loyal to her and prioritize her commands. But this plan backfires, and AMELIA actually goes rogue, killing everyone in sight. Cady and Gemma eventually reunite as they try to destroy the Black Box, and Cole goes off to rescue Tess. Upon realizing that Gemma has freed herself, and AMELIA is on the loose, Christian prioritizes getting the all-powerful Motherboard out of their reach. But when he spots Gemma and Cady in the control room, he locks them in. Just when he thinks he has the upper hand, karma comes back to bite him. AMELIA gets him and he dies swiftly at the hands of his own evil creation. While Christian is dead, a new problem arises as AMELIA gets her hands on the Motherboard. She becomes a god-tier AI, seemingly unstoppable. But M3GAN jumps from Gemma's consciousness and back into her own battered robot body to put an end to all the bloodshed and chaos. She uses an electromagnetic pulse device that Gemma had implanted into her robot body, which blows up the Motherboard, AMELIA, and herself. And Gemma, Cady, Cole, and Tess manage to escape safely. For those worried that M3GAN's ultimate sacrifice might mean the end of the franchise, fret not. If there's one thing that we know, it's that our girl's got plenty of tricks up her sleeve. Following all the chaotic events, Gemma is back on her grind, advocating for the safe and regulated use of AI. (This time, with Cole and Tess as partners in her venture.) When Gemma gets to work on her computer, Clippy the Microsoft Office assistant pops-up on her screen. She notices, however, that the cartoon paperclip is acting sassier than usual. As it turns out, M3GAN created an animated digital back-up of herself. Looks like M3GAN 3.0 could very well happen!
