The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has launched the new IM2 shipping service at Jeddah Islamic Port, in collaboration with Emirates Shipping Line and Wan Hai Lines. This initiative aims to boost the competitiveness of Saudi ports, streamline global trade, and enhance operational efficiency.
The IM2 service will link Jeddah Islamic Port with three key ports: Mundra in India, Alexandria in Egypt, and Mersin in Türkiye. It will offer a handling capacity of up to 2,800 TEUs.
This launch aligns with Mawani's broader strategy to elevate Saudi Arabia's position in global performance rankings, support national exports, and advance the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub connecting three continents.
Jeddah Islamic Port features 62 multi-purpose berths, specialized terminals, two general cargo terminals, ship repair docks, and a dedicated area for logistics services including storage and re-export. Its total cargo handling capacity stands at 130 million tons.

Saudi Gazette report ALULA — The General Authority of Foreign Trade, represented by Deputy Governor for International Organizations and Agreements and Head of the Saudi Negotiating Team Fareed Al-Asaly, is heading Saudi Arabia's delegation in the second round of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Japan, being held in Tokyo from June 30 to July 4. The negotiating team is tasked with overseeing and monitoring the progress of the trade negotiations to ensure alignment with the Kingdom's trade policies and goals. It also participates directly in incorporating Saudi negotiating positions. In 2024, the trade volume between Saudi Arabia and Japan reached around $36 billion. Saudi exports were led by mineral products and organic chemical products, while imports from Japan were dominated by vehicles and their parts, along with machinery and mechanical appliances and their parts. Saudi exports amounted to around $28 billion, while imports totaled around $8 billion. The General Authority of Foreign Trade seeks to enhance the Kingdom's international trade gains, global presence, and active participation in various international organizations to ensure the achievement of shared goals and sustainable development.

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Culinary Arts Commission, in partnership with the Michelin Guide, announced the arrival of the globally renowned restaurant guide in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone for the Kingdom's culinary sector. Set to roll out in three phases throughout 2025, Michelin inspectors will conduct rigorous evaluations across Saudi cities to select standout restaurants for inclusion in the first-ever Saudi edition, which will be released in 2026. Restaurant selections for the inaugural guide will be unveiled on the 15th of each month between October and December 2025, culminating in the complete guide's release the following year. The initiative aims to elevate restaurant quality, spotlight Saudi Arabia's culinary diversity, and foster a competitive environment that rewards innovation and excellence. Michelin stars, regarded as the most prestigious global culinary accolade, are awarded based on five criteria: ingredient quality, flavor harmony, technical mastery, the chef's personality in the dish, and consistency across the menu.
