ABC has greenlit a Scrubs reboot for the 2025–2026 season, confirming the return of original cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.
Initially reported in early development in December 2024, the revival brings viewers back to Sacred Heart Hospital with both familiar faces and new additions.
Series creator Bill Lawrence expressed his excitement, saying, 'Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.'
The official series logline teases JD and Turk 'scrubbing in together for the first time in a long time,' navigating a medical world that has evolved, alongside a new generation of interns.
Fan favourites are expected to return beyond the confirmed trio, reviving the show's blend of sharp humour, emotional moments and character-driven storytelling.
Lawrence will executive produce through his Doozer banner alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Executive producers Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as showrunners. Braff, Faison and Chalke will also executive produce.
The series is produced by 20th Television, while Warner Bros. Television supports Lawrence's involvement under his overall deal.
The original Scrubs ran from 2001 to 2010, first on NBC and later on ABC. It became known for its single-camera style, imaginative cutaways and heartfelt arcs.

Yellowstone star Neal McDonough recalls career fallout and why Hollywood 'turned on him'

Actor Neal McDonough recently opened up about a difficult period in his career, revealing that he was effectively blacklisted from Hollywood for refusing to kiss anyone other than his wife onscreen. In a preview of the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, shared, McDonough described how this personal boundary caused significant professional backlash. 'I'd always had in my contracts I wouldn't kiss another woman onscreen,' McDonough explained, adding that while his wife, Ruvé McDonough, supported the choice, industry decision-makers did not. 'When I couldn't do it, and they couldn't understand it, Hollywood just completely turned on me.' According to the Yellowstone and Suits actor, the fallout led to a two-year stretch without work. 'I lost everything you could possibly imagine—not just houses and material things, but your swagger, your cool, your identity,' he said. The absence of acting roles pushed him into what he described as a "tailspin," even leading to struggles with alcohol before regaining his footing with his family's support. McDonough has previously spoken about this issue, notably telling Closer Weekly in 2019 that he was fired from the ABC series Scoundrels in 2010 for refusing to film intimate scenes. 'Everybody thought I was this religious zealot,' he said at the time. 'I put God and family first, and me second.' His comeback began when Band of Brothers producer Graham Yost cast him in Justified. More recently, McDonough starred in The Last Rodeo, released in May 2025, where he worked around his onscreen intimacy rule by casting his real-life wife as his character's spouse. The full interview, covering his career struggles and reflections on typecasting, is set to air on Nothing Left Unsaid this week.

Matthew Lawrence wants to resurrect Robin Williams with AI

Matthew Lawrence, who played Chris Hillard alongside Robin Williams in the 1993 classic Mrs. Doubtfire, has stirred controversy with a surprising pitch: using artificial intelligence to resurrect the late actor's voice. Speaking at Comic-Con, Lawrence said he would love to bring Williams' voice back, with permission from the family, because he believes it's too iconic to remain silent. 'It would be so cool,' Lawrence said, adding that Williams' voice belongs in modern AI systems or interactive projects. 'He's gotta be the voice of AI. He's gotta be the voice in something.' Lawrence revealed the idea came to him after stumbling upon an old TV commercial featuring Williams doing a robotic-style voiceover, which felt eerily ahead of its time. Fans have responded with mixed feelings. Some say the suggestion dishonours Williams' legacy and reduces his memory to a tech gimmick. Others find it an intriguing tribute, noting Williams' timeless voice brought comfort and humour to millions. Comments under news posts have expressed unease, with users calling it 'weird,' 'too soon,' and 'morally slippery.' Lawrence emphasised he would only pursue the project with full approval from Williams' family. Still, the proposal has raised larger ethical questions about the posthumous use of AI, especially for celebrities who never gave consent. Lawrence also shared emotional memories of Williams on the Mrs. Doubtfire set, revealing that Williams warned him as a child actor to avoid drugs. 'Don't ever do drugs. Especially cocaine,' Williams told him. That advice, Lawrence said, changed his life. While the intentions may be nostalgic, the idea of digitally reviving Williams' voice has clearly touched a cultural nerve, suggesting that even the most beloved icons aren't safe from AI's reach. Whether this tribute ever materialises remains to be seen.

Was Jennifer Lawrence always meant to be Katniss?

More than a decade after The Hunger Games hit cinemas, casting director Debra Zane is peeling back the curtain on the decision that defined a generation: choosing Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. While Lawrence is now inseparable from the role, it turns out her casting was far from guaranteed, especially with every major young actress in Hollywood chasing the part. Speaking to Teen Vogue, Zane said the choice was less about fame and more about instinct. 'It's hard to explain. It's gut instinct,' she shared. Lawrence had just earned serious critical acclaim for Winter's Bone, with Oscar buzz swirling around her name, but Zane wasn't impressed by hype alone. 'She just was Katniss,' she explained, adding that casting is often about finding the most emotionally layered performance, even when it's unexpected. 'That's the most exciting part, when someone exceeds what you imagined.' Zane's longtime casting partner, Dylan Jury, also reflected on the process behind Sunrise on the Reaping, the newest instalment in the franchise. Unlike previous films, this one was cast while the book was still being written. 'That made it very crazy and challenging for different reasons,' Jury said. Fan buzz has been especially strong around Maya Hawke's casting as Wiress, which Zane proudly called a perfect match. As for Whitney Peak, cast as Lenore Dove, it was her chemistry with co-star Joe that sealed the deal. A test shoot captured on an iPhone gave Zane a sudden, intuitive certainty. 'We were shooting them on an iPhone and Dylan was operating the iPhone and I was peeking over his shoulder into the screen and could just… it was really like, Oof. You know?!' Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before the original story and features a star-studded cast including Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, and Glenn Close. It premieres on 20 November 2026.
