Property assessments are out. Here's how much home values went up in your area
In 2024, the median home value in Ada County increased by 5.3%, according to the Ada County Assessor's Office. That's just a smidgen more than the 5.03% increase in 2023, according to Chief Deputy Assessor Brad Smith.
'It's encouraging to see a more stable market after the erratic valuation swings of the past,' Smith said in an email.
The latest annual property assessments have been mailed to homeowners. The assessed value is what the office believes each property could have sold for in the real estate market.
The new median assessed value in Ada County is $480,000, up from about $455,000 last year.
Home values have certainly been erratic. Residential assessments skyrocketed in the early 2020s, when for multiple years the median assessed value for Ada County homes jumped by close to 30%. Then in 2023, most residents saw their assessments decrease.
Homeowners have until the fourth Monday in June to appeal their homes' assessed value. So far, after a historically low year in 2024, appeals and phone calls are up, according to the office.
Some homeowners may not see much change in their new assessments. Star has the lowest median assessed value jump in Ada County, an increase of 1.6%. Values jumped by over 7% in the 2024 assessments.
On the other hand, North Boise took the top spot this year with a 7% median increase. Northeast Boise followed close behind at 6.6%. That brings North Boise up to a median $668,000 and Northeast Boise to a whopping $729,000.
Times have changed in the last decade. In 2015, Northeast Boise homes were valued at less than half of that, right around $300,000.
Northeast Boise is not the highest-priced neighborhood in the county though. That distinction belongs to Eagle, at $803,000.The two lowest-valued neighborhoods are Garden City and West Boise, which both come in at under $398,000.
Commercial property values increased 1.3% this year, down from last year's growth of around 2.7%.
Property values and property taxes are not the same thing, the Assessor's Office stresses. Just because home values go up, residents don't automatically pay more in taxes. Tax increases also depend on how much money is needed to pay for local-government budgets.
Local governments are working now to develop their budgets for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. Only then are levy rates set and actual taxes on your home determined. Idahoans will receive property tax bills in November Payments are due in December.

Ex-Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith shares real reason he landed with Steelers
Jonnu Smith shared one of the main reasons behind Monday's blockbuster trade that landed the former Miami Dolphins tight end with the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'I'm in a situation where I'm appreciated,' Smith said on The Terron Armstead Podcast Wednesday evening, later adding that 'you're always going to go where you're most valued and appreciated.' 'It's a lot of things positive that were working for me individually after the season for me to be in Miami long term — like even life after football,' Smith addeed. The conversation about his compensation, according to Smith, began as soon as the season ended in January. Originally supposed to be paid around $4.8 million in 2025, the newly minted Pro Bowler wanted to be compensated like one of the top tight ends. And as one of the 'character guys' in the locker room, a necessity as the Dolphins attempted to change the culture after issues in 2024, Smith simply thought the deal would get hammered out. 'Eventually it came a point and time when they told me they can't do it,' Smith said. To be clear: a source confirmed that Smith's trade had nothing to do with the team's attempts to institute a better culture. He, in fact, was one of the core guys that . It honestly just came down to money as the Steelers were able to give him a one-year deal worth roughly $12 million. 'I had to make the decision to go where I'm appreciated and viewed on paper, economically, contract-wise as a top guy in this league which I know I am,' Smith said. 'Pittsburgh was the team that saw me as that.' Added Smith: 'Going through that process, I was hurt. I didn't think that collectively — as an organization, players, coaches — that [they believed] trading Jonnu Smith is where our success starts.' The conversation took place during the first episode of The Terron Armstead Podcast, a new show helmed by the recently retired five-time Pro Bowl tackle. Armstead described the podcast as 'different from any other sports show' as he attempts to give fans an intimate look at how these huge trades affect the individuals involved. 'I want to create a platform where we can have this type of dialogue to where we really can get a chance to hear and know the behind-the-scenes of trade talk,' Armstead said. The Steelers' move to acquire Smith, however, puts a lot of eyeballs on Pittsburgh as they seemingly will go all in on newly acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers and co. Other additions to the Steelers include receiver D.K Metcalf, cornerback Darius Slay and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was part of the Smith trade that also sent safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back to Miami. How these moves play out will make the Steelers an intriguing team in 2025. Luckily, the Dolphins will have a front row seat come Week 15 as they travel to Pittsburgh for what will likely be a rather frigid, Monday Night Football matchup.

Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith signs somewhat surprising NIL shoe deal
Shoe allegiances can run almost as deep as a favorite college football program. When you can marry the two together, perhaps in charge of marketing may have something special. That appears to be the case with Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith and Adidas, because according to a social media post on Tuesday, it appears as though Smith has signed an NIL deal with the popular sports apparel company based in Germany. And if you are like many of us, the fact that it's not with Nike (the apparel company that sponsors Ohio State) might be a little suprising. But hey, this is what NIL is for, right? Athletes are able to enter their own partnerships with companies to take advantage of their star power, and kudos to Adidas for recognizing what Smith can be for them as a public figure and spokesperson. Of course, we don't know the terms of the deal and probably never will, but if you are a Smith and Ohio State fan, now you have conflicting priorities. One has to wonder what kind of cleats Smith will be wearing when he runs out of the tunnel on Aug. 30. Somewhere, there has to be contract language that spells out how this whole thing is going to work. And maybe, just maybe, down the line we'll get to see some Jeremiah Smith Adidas cleats we can all get our hands on.
