Cameron McAdoo to undergo knee surgery; return timeline unknown

NBC Sports05-03-2025
Cameron McAdoo will undergo knee surgery on Thursday to repair an ACL that was torn in a preseason crash. A timeline for his return has not been announced.
'Hey everyone; I wanted to jump on here and give you guys an update,' McAdoo said in a social media post. 'As you all know, I didn't race the main event in Daytona last weekend. After practice and after the heat race, there were just a few moments on track that really made me realize that I was very low on strength with my leg. Obviously, my safety and all the other riders on the track's safety is the important thing. For me to race at the highest level, it had become just not quite safe yet, so the team came together and made the decision to go get my knee fixed up.
Despite the injury, McAdoo finished fifth in his heat race and would have had a mid-pack gate pick.
'As you guys all know, that was a really tough decision for me,' McAdoo continued. 'I always want to be out on the track and trying my hardest. That was tough, but it was just time, so this week I have surgery scheduled for Thursday. Looking forward to going in and getting fixed up. I'll keep you guys all updated with my recovery process, keep you in the loop and just looking forward to getting healthy and getting back out there.'
In the most recent Monster Energy Supercross 250 East race, McAdoo crashed while riding sixth on Lap 15 and suffered facial lacerations.
'My knee has just not been strong enough today to safely race, and my safety, along with other riders on the track, is the most important,' McAdoo said in a press release immediately following the race. 'As everyone knows, I will always do everything I can to race, but it was not in the cards for us today.'
Incredibly, McAdoo finished third in the 250 East opener in Tampa, but the strain of three rounds and any practice he could endure had a cumulative effect on the health of his knee.
'It is what it is,' McAdoo reflected on his injury to NBC Sports to Daytona prior to the Daytona race. 'The same as it was in Tampa. I have a fully torn ACL, so nothing is going to change a whole lot, but we're managing it well at this point.'

Is Cowboys' youthful 5th-round pick capable of immediate impact, or hopeful investment?

What inspired the Cowboys to trade up for Shemar James in the 2025 NFL draft? The team had used both draft and financial capital to bring in Kenneth Murray (via trade) and Jack Sanborn, and had spent two third-round picks in two years on DeMarvion Overshown and Marist Liufau. While Overshown is expected to miss at least two months of the season after an ACL injury, the team wasn't in a dire situation at the position; they've entered seasons with more disarray before. But the new regime in town after changing out the majority of the coaching staff, wanted to bring in a prospect that met their protoype, and moved up in the fifth round to select James out of Florida. Dallas had already selected RB Jaydon Blue early in the round, but then bundled the No. 174 and No. 211 pick together, swapping spots with the Arizona Cardinals. Rundown Position: Linebacker Age: 21 Height: 6-foot-1 Weight: 222 pounds Hometown: Mobile, AL High School: Faith Academy College: Florida (Highlights) Draft: 2025 Fifth Round (No. 152 overall) Acquired: 2025 draft Contract: Four-year contract (2025), $4.6 million 2025 Base Salary: $840,000 Profile James' draft pedigree will put him on the 53-man roster, but his place in the pecking order will be determined by what happens in the remaining weeks of training camp. He'll be fighting for snaps with Damone Clark, who is now on his third defensive coordinator in three years in Matt Eberflus. Also looking to secure a role is UDFA rookie Justin Barron, a safety convert similar to Overshown. Buddy Johnson and Darius Harris are also on the 90-man roster hoping to earn a place in the regular season picture. James' physical profile is similar, a speedy, smooth athlete who looks to avoid second-level blockers instead of taking them on. He's ridiculously young, indicating an untapped ceiling the Cowboys hope to develop. The NFL is now a three-year window league, so the hope is that after the short-term rentals of Murray and Sanborn, James emerges to form a triumvirate with Liufau and Overshown. Cardinals training camp: Right guard is position to watch but isn't big position battle

Isaiah Adams is lined up to be the starting right guard and has been since the spring. The Arizona Cardinals have a number of notable position battles as they have begun training camp. Throughout the offseason, one particular position has had the attention. But as camp has begun, it appears that this job is not as competitive as we thought it would be. That would be the right guard position. The Cardinals have not brought back guard Will Hernandez, who had started at right guard for the last three seasons and tore his ACL last year in Week 5. 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams finished the season starting the final five games at right guard, but then the Cardinals signed Royce Newman, who has 24 career starts, drafted Hayden Conner in the sixth round and still have 2023 fourth-round pick Jon Gaines. While it was believed that there would be a competition for the starting job, but that hasn't been the case. Adams has been running with the first team since the spring, a trend that the Cardinals have had the last two years for their offensive line. When the left guard job was not certain heading into the last two offseasons, Elijah Wilkinson ran with the first team in the spring and was the starter, while last year, the same happened with Evan Brown. Naturally, there will still be competition, but as things stand right now as camp begins, Adams will have the job unless he gets hurt or loses it. His performance in camp and the preseason is certainly something to watch, but right guard is not one of their key position battles.
