Broncos roster: LB Karene Reid (No. 47) aims to be latest UDFA to make 53-man roster
Before the Broncos: Reid (6-0, 228 pounds) is a rare player in the NIL landscape, as he stayed for all four years at the University of Utah, surviving the team's move from the Pac-12 conference to the Big 12. In four years, Reid played in 43 career games, making 238 total tackles (109 solo, 129 assisted, 20 tackles for loss) 9.0 sacks, 10 pass deflections, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown), three interceptions (one for a touchdown).
Broncos tenure: Reid joined the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL draft, the teammate of Denver's seventh-round draft pick, Caleb Lohner, and 2024 third-round pick Jonah Elliss. Reid will make his Bronco debut during preseason next month.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss-up. Reid received the second-largest guaranteed money total among the team's undrafted players this spring, so he made our list of the five most likely UDFAs to make the 53-man roster. Alex Singleton is coming off a torn ACL and is 31 years old, so Denver would love to see a young linebacker emerge this summer. Judging from the contract he received, it seems like the Broncos like Reid's chances.

49ers Linked to Huge Trade for New Brock Purdy Weapon
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers are a major question mark. After making it all the way to the Super Bowl just two years ago, they missed the playoffs last season. While the 49ers lost quite a few key players during the offseason, they were also able to lock up both Brock Purdy and George Kittle to long-term deals. Now, the question becomes, is the roster set heading into the upcoming campaign? Adding more offensive firepower could be in the cards for San Francisco. If John Lynch is interested in making an aggressive move, one has been suggested. Quarterback Brock Purdy #13 of the San Francisco 49ers looks on after a play during the first half of a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on August 23, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More Photo byMike Kadlick of Sports Illustrated has named the 49ers as one of the best potential trade destinations for Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Read more: Packers Linked to Late-Offseason Move for 58-Sack Pass Rusher He noted that making a move for McLaurin would help replace the loss of Deebo Samuel, who was traded by San Francisco to the Commanders earlier this offseason. "After sending wide receiver Deebo Samuel to Washington earlier this offseason, perhaps the 49ers can get some pass-catching help back in a follow-up deal for McLaurin," Kadlick wrote. "San Francisco enters 2025 with star Brandon Aiyuk returning from ACL surgery and former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall hopeful to make a year-two jump—but could use some additional help for their newly extended quarterback in Brock Purdy. The 49ers currently have the third-most cap space in the NFL according to Spotrac, and could reasonably meet the 29-year-old's asking price." McLaurin has been one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL for years. He is coming off of another productive season in 2024. Last season with Washington, McLaurin racked up 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was also able to play in all 17 regular season games for the fourth year in a row. Read more: Steelers Predicted to Land Dynamic Aaron Rodgers Replacement Adding McLaurin alongside of Brandon Aiyuk and Kittle would give Purdy three elite weapons to work with. He's 29 years old, which should give him a few more good years playing at a prime level. Making a move for McLaurin would not come cheap. However, he could be the piece that helps power the 49ers back into the playoffs. Purdy would be a big winner as well. Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding McLaurin heading towards the start of the 2025 season. It would not be shocking to see San Francisco connected to him again at some point. Broncos' Bo Nix Predicted to Accomplish 4,000 Yards Passing, Not Done Since Peyton Manning
Broncos' Bo Nix Predicted to Accomplish 4,000 Yards Passing, Not Done Since Peyton Manning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos drafted Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the former Oregon quarterback entered the league with muted expectations. However, after a solid rookie season that culminated with the Broncos' first playoff appearance since 2015, the bar has been raised. Advertisement Nix impressed in his rookie season, completing 66.3% of his passes for 3775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. On paper, it was the most impressive season by a Broncos quarterback in some time, and Nix's 29 passing touchdowns were the fourth-most in franchise history, with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning taking up the top three spots. Manning's four years in Denver were wildly successful, setting records for single-season passing touchdowns and passing yards while delivering a Super Bowl to the team in his final season, and now Nix is predicted to accomplish something that hasn't been done since Manning's days at Mile High. According to A to Z Sports' Destin Adams and Kyle Crabbs, Nix is set to have a big season in 2025, with the pair predicting the second-year quarterback to deliver a top-five passing yard season for the Broncos, a club that Manning also dominated. Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix (10) throws for a touchdown against Indianapolis Colts defensive end Laiatu Latu (97) as offensive tackle Garett J. Downing-Imagn Images 'The Broncos have had some all-time slingers of the football. But in the grand scheme of single-season passing yard performances, I'm ready to project Bo Nix into the top-5.' Crabbs writes. 'Give me over 4,089 for Bo Nix in 2025 after he logged 3,775 passing yards as a rookie last season. The improvements to the weaponry should give Sean Payton the needed firepower to kick Denver's passing attack up a notch, and Nix now has a year of NFL seasoning under his belt.' Advertisement The last time a Broncos quarterback passed for over 4,000 yards was Peyton Manning back in 2014, when he threw for 4727 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, his last Pro Bowl season in the NFL. By eclipsing the 4,000-yard mark, Nix would join an illustrious club that features Manning, John Elway, Jay Cutler, and Jake Plummer. Adams shares Crabbs' optimism. 'While the take sounds like it would be an incredible feat for Nix, it would only take a slight improvement from his rookie year. Nix only needs to add 314 yards to his total from 2024.' Adams writes, adding: 'He will be more comfortable at the NFL level and in Sean Payton's offense. And Payton will likely have more trust in his QB, which will lead to him opening up more of the playbook.' Nix impressed in Sean Payton's offense in 2024, and the Broncos front office continued to improve his ecosystem heading into 2025, adding Evan Engram and J.K. Dobbins in free agency while drafting receiver Pat Bryant and running back R.J. Harvey. Broncos Trade Idea Lands Them Darnell Washington
Broncos Trade Idea Lands Them Darnell Washington originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos hope to take the next step heading into 2025. The team ended its eight-year playoff drought a year ago, finishing with a 10-7 record before losing to the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard Round of the NFL playoffs, and there's a fair amount of belief that the team will be challenging for the playoffs again in 2025. Advertisement The offense, with second-year quarterback Bo Nix, has to continue to ascend if growth is to happen. Acquiring tight end Evan Engram and running back J.K. Dobbins in free agency, as well as running back R.J. Harvey and wide receiver Pat Bryant in the draft, means the Broncos are well-equipped to take that step. One interesting trade proposal has the Broncos improving even more at tight end, though. Per KOA's Zach Segar, the Broncos should consider making a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington. The former Georgia Bulldog is heading into his third season in the NFL with the Steelers and is known for his excellent blocking ability, both as a run-blocker and in pass protection. The trade proposal has the Broncos acquiring Washington for a 2027 sixth-round pick, while an alternative offer sees the Broncos picking up Washington and a 2026 sixth-round pick for TE Adam Trautman and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton speaks to the media following rookie minicamp at Broncos Park Powered by Chenoy-Imagn Images 'Right now, Denver's tight end room is painfully shallow. Evan Engram is the only player in the room who could earn playing time on a majority of NFL rosters, and even he is a limited solution, considering his lack of blocking ability and his need to operate in space.' Segar writes. Advertisement That's where Washington could come in and contribute. While he's still raw and growing as a pass-catcher, his size, athleticism, and natural power lend themselves very well to his role as a blocker. 'Darnell Washington could immediately be a quality answer to fill the void next to Engram in the tight end room. Washington offers freakish size, athleticism, and strength, making him look more like an additional offensive tackle than a traditional TE.' Segar adds. 'Despite that lumbering frame, Washington has managed to be a factor in the passing game, making him a more well-rounded option than past Broncos blocking-specialists Eric Tomlinson and Chris Manhertz.' The Steelers might feel more open to the idea of moving Washington now they've also traded for former Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, but Washington's role is so niche, and he plays it so well that the Steelers may feel they can't get that production from elsewhere on the roster. In a world where he does end up on the Broncos roster, he makes them a better team.
