, Associate Professor (Research) and Research Director at the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, stressed that every individual has a role in mitigating climate impacts.
A key contributor to the UN's climate reports for the past two years, he noted that climate change, a phenomenon that refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, will have the most severe effects on the agriculture sector. While urban areas and coastal cities will also face risks, rural farming communities will bear the brunt of this crisis.
Among the 20 most polluted cities in the world, 14 cities are in India, he said at a press conference in Latur.
Prakash urged citizens to take steps to safeguard the environment and added "In the future, we will have to face drought, heavy rainfall, storms." Maharashtra, he said, has nearly 750-km-long coastline and due to rise in temperatures, there is a threat to many countries and cities located in coastal areas.

Former MLC and chairperson of the Maharashtra State Agriculture Price Commission Pasha Patel, who was also present at the press meet, said the government is raising awareness among farmers about
bamboo cultivation
and encouraging its large-scale adoption.
Highlighting the state government's ambitious 'Green Maharashtra' declaration, which targets plantation on 21 lakh hectares, Patel emphasized that special efforts will be made to boost bamboo cultivation as part of this drive.
Awareness programmes will be held to educate farmers about the benefits of bamboo, known for its environmental and economic value, the former legislator maintained.

South Korea's impeached former president Yoon Suk Yeol lay on his prison cell floor in his underwear to resist attempts to interrogate him, prosecutors said Friday. Prosecutors obtained a fresh arrest warrant on Thursday to forcibly bring the former leader in for questioning over allegations of election tampering. However, they were "unable to do so due to his strong refusal", prosecutor Oh Jeong-hee told reporters. "The suspect refused arrest while lying on the floor without wearing his prison-issued clothing," she said. "Due to concerns over safety incidents, physical force was withheld, and the execution of the warrant was temporarily suspended." Yoon was wearing "a sleeveless top and prison-issued briefs," prosecutors said, calling it the "most appropriate way" to describe his attire given the "serious nature of the situation". Prosecutors informed Yoon they would have to carry out physical force if necessary in the next attempt. Yoon was arrested after he tried to impose martial law on December 3, sending troops to parliament to prevent lawmakers from voting down his declaration and plunging the country into political turmoil. He faces a litany of charges, from insurrection to election tampering, but has refused multiple times to appear at his summons. Yoon's legal team said the prosecutors had shown a "disturbing disregard" for "basic human decency". "The special counsel turned what should have been a press briefing into a stage for personal humiliation," Yoon's lawyer Yoo Jeong-hwa told AFP. "What kind of legal institution in a civilised country gives a real-time report and commentary to journalists on a detainee's clothing, especially in a cramped cell nearing 40 degrees (Celsius) (104 degrees Fahrenheit)?" Yoon's lawyers said the former president suffers from "several underlying conditions that pose significant challenges to maintaining his health", making it difficult for him to fully cooperate with the investigation. Railway safety commissioner cautions Ministry against contractual hiring for critical safety work
NEW DELHI: AM Choudhary, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle), who held in his probe report that the accident of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express in 2024 was a result of sabotage, has cautioned the Railway Ministry against contractual hiring for critical safety work. Raising concern over the issue, Choudhary said, "Engagement and exposure of contractual staff for the maintenance and operation of critical safety features and systems, as well as allowing them to develop skills in these areas must be reviewed as a priority." It must be brought to a "minimal in short term and null in long term", he added. In their action taken report, the Railway Ministry stated that the contractual staff, according to the policy, are used for non-critical activities along with or under the supervision of Railway Staff. The CRS's probe, reported by PTI on Wednesday, revealed that miscreants forcefully removed the components of the track interlocking system, leading to the accident. Choudhary also observed that the accident happened "not due to automatic/sudden failure of any equipment/assets but due to the forceful alteration in the designed position of LH tongue rails by the miscreant". On October 11, 2024, Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express (12578) collided with a stationary goods train at the Kavaraippettai railway station in Tamil Nadu's Chennai rail division at around 8.30 pm, leading to injuries to nine passengers. The CRS recommendation regarding non-engagement of contractual staff for crucial safety work has reflected the concerns already raised by the Indian Railways Signal & Telecom Maintainers' Union (IRSTMU) when the Ministry on May 6 issued a circular for hiring signalling and telecom staff on contractual basis as a pilot project for the execution of certain non-critical activities. In a letter to the Railway minister on June 3, IRSTMU General Secretary Alok Chandra Prakash had demanded to fill the vacant posts with permanent employees and not contractual as the S&T department is closely related to the safety and security of railways and passengers. Prakash said that the CRS recommendation is in the interest of passengers' safety. "I am glad that the Railway Ministry announced permanent hiring after our demand, but its pilot project for contractual hiring is also going on," he said. "I think the CRS has touched a very crucial safety aspect. Playing with the safety of railways and passengers should be stopped immediately and privatisation through backdoors should be stopped," Prakash added.

Agency: PTI Amaravati, Jul 31 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed officials to turn the greenfield capital Amaravati into a city with the largest lung space. The Chief Minister directed officials to implement a green action plan under the concept 'Amaravati in Nature'. 'Turn capital Amaravati into a city with the largest lung space with Amaravati in Nature concept," said Naidu in the press release. Naidu reviewed Amaravati beautification and green – blue master plan today at the secretariat. He directed officials to ensure that the trunk roads, connected roads, roads built near layouts, green zones, buffer zones, traffic intersections and others are all appealing to the eye. Likewise, he instructed officials to carry out avenue plantations along the roads, including constructing worldclass parks in the greenfield capital city. Similarly, the CM instructed officials to sow medicinal plants in Amaravati, along with indigenous trees in the green belt and buffer zones, and turn the riverfront into an exciting place. According to Naidu, Amaravti should become a place which will give rise to different coloured flowers in different seasons. As part of beautifying Amaravati, he instructed officials to study places like Bengaluru and Singapore and advised them to name different parks after various countries and also grow flowering plants from those countries, among other guidelines.
