Only 0.25pc fined as JPJ hails high seatbelt compliance on express, tour buses since July 1 enforcement
JPJ Enforcement and Prosecution Policy director Zulkarnain Yasin said that since the enforcement began on July 1, a total of 123,706 passengers and drivers were inspected during checks on 3,257 buses — comprising 2,459 express buses and 798 tour buses nationwide.
Of that total, only 305 summonses were issued — 238 to express bus passengers, 43 to tour bus passengers, and 24 to bus drivers.
'The compliance rate is very high... Alhamdulillah, and I would like to thank Malaysians for their cooperation.
'I urge all bus drivers, passengers, and motorists to always wear seat belts for everyone's safety,' he told reporters after a bus inspection operation at Putrajaya Sentral last night.
Starting July 1, it is mandatory for all drivers and passengers of express and tour buses, manufactured after January 2020, to wear seat belts.
For buses built before 2020, operators will be given a grace period to install seat belts.
Passengers or drivers who fail to comply will face a RM300 fine, while bus companies may also face legal action for not ensuring passenger safety. — Bernama

PLUS shuts southbound Serdang R&R to heavy vehicles for upgrading until July 31
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — The Serdang Rest and Service Area (R&R) (Southbound) at KM308.20 of the North-South Expressway will be temporarily closed in phases to all heavy vehicles for 25 days starting today to facilitate concrete resurfacing maintenance works. In a statement, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) said the heavy vehicles access route into the R&R area will be closed in stages from 8am today until midnight on July 31, 2025, to make way for upgrading works for the comfort of highway users. 'As such, heavy vehicle drivers are advised to use the nearest available parking facilities as an alternative during the maintenance period. 'However, other facilities and parking for Class 1 vehicles at the R&R will continue to operate as usual,' the statement read. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys using the PLUS App for up-to-date traffic information and to follow all traffic signs and instructions from PLUS personnel when passing through the affected area. JPJ issues RM57,000 in summonses following VEP enforcement at Johor–Singapore border
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 190 summonses amounting to RM57,000 during the first five days of full enforcement of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) at the Malaysia–Singapore land border, which began on June 1. State JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan said 1,767 vehicles were inspected, with 94 vehicles issued warning notices. 'So far, VEP enforcement at the land checkpoints has proceeded smoothly,' he told Bernama today. Under the enforcement, drivers of Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia without a valid VEP may be fined RM300. The enforcement is in line with Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which makes it an offence to drive a foreign-registered motor vehicle into or within Malaysia without a valid permit. The VEP system aims not only to manage cross-border traffic flow but also to enhance the enforcement of road transport laws involving foreign vehicles.
