Rasmus Højlund to Fenerbahçe? Mourinho Eyes Manchester United Striker as Summer Reinforcements Begin
Mourinho's Istanbul Revolution Continues
José Mourinho's Fenerbahçe have reportedly set their sights on Manchester United's misfiring forward Rasmus Højlund, according to a new report from Sozcu.com. Having already brought familiar Premier League faces Fred and Sofyan Amrabat to Turkey, Mourinho's next move could further deepen his Manchester United connections — this time up front.

It's been a mixed debut season at Old Trafford for Højlund, whose Premier League output stands at just four goals in 30 appearances. Despite showing glimpses of potential, he's struggled to assert himself as the commanding No.9 United thought they were getting. With United eager to overhaul their frontline and bring in more clinical firepower, Højlund may be one of the sacrifices.
Attacking Revamp at Old Trafford
It's no secret United are seeking a new focal point in attack. Both Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have underperformed, and as the club look to trigger Matheus Cunha's £62.5 million release clause at Wolves and chase Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, someone has to make way.

'Man Utd are willing to sell Hojlund – and Zirkzee – to fund their own attacking revamp this summer,' TEAMtalk revealed last month. That reality makes a Turkish escape plausible for the Denmark international.
Fenerbahçe Plot Ambitious Double Swoop
Sozcu reports that Fenerbahçe are keen to sign two 'star' strikers this summer, with Rasmus Højlund top of their wish list. Mourinho is anticipating the possible exits of Edin Džeko, Youssef En-Nesyri and Cenk Tosun, and is eager to reshape his frontline.

A 'first offer' from Fenerbahçe is expected to come in the form of a loan deal with an option to buy. While the figure remains unclear, such a move would suit Mourinho's tactical evolution in Istanbul. His admiration for Højlund isn't new either — after the sides met in Europe, Mourinho commented how the Dane can 'attack the spaces'.

Serie A Calling Again?
Fenerbahçe are not alone in their interest. Italian clubs are said to be circling, with former club Atalanta among those monitoring developments. A return to Serie A — a league that suits Højlund's game — may prove more tempting than a move east.

Still, Mourinho's presence changes things. His track record of reinvigorating players, coupled with Fenerbahçe's ambition, makes this one to watch.
United's Dilemma and Højlund's Future
'On the surface, it seems likelier that Man Utd would prefer to cash in on Hojlund if he's out of their plans. They need player sales to balance the books.' That stark assessment, again from Sozcu, reflects the financial pressures at Old Trafford — pressures which could open the door for Mourinho to strike.
Whether Højlund sees his future in Turkey is another matter. The player didn't find the net in three meetings against Mourinho-coached sides, and a switch to a league that values technical sharpness over physicality could be an awkward fit.

Still, for Mourinho, it would be another clever reclaim project. For United, it might simply be good business.
Our View – EPL Index
There's something deeply concerning about how quickly Manchester United appear ready to offload Rasmus Højlund. He's just 21, playing his first season in the Premier League, and has been thrown into a dysfunctional side starved of service. Four goals in 30 league games is underwhelming, yes, but so is the midfield creativity and the lack of a consistent tactical identity around him.
Selling him to Fenerbahçe — or anyone — this early feels premature. Mourinho might see something United have failed to develop properly. That's damning for United's recruitment and coaching setup more than it is for the player.

If the reports from Sozcu are accurate and the first offer is just a loan with an option to buy, then it's hard to see how that benefits United unless they're truly convinced he's not worth developing further. But what message does that send to other young players considering Old Trafford as their next step?
There's a lot to fix at United, but pulling the plug on young talent after one season might only deepen the club's long-term issues.

Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey makes a bold proclamation following Friday's practice

You love to see when your quarterback has extreme confidence, and Notre Dame's Kenny Minchey did exactly that on Friday following the second fall practice. When speaking with the media, the second-year player proclaimed that he believes that he's 'the best quarterback in the country,' as On3's Jack Soble posted on social media. It's a strong claim, but one that ultimately could come true. Minchey will have to beat out CJ Carr first, but having that kind of confidence will go a long way. Everything that we have seen from his during his limited playing time and in practices seem to suggest that he's got the skill set to lead the Notre Dame offense. He's got the running ability to make defenses account for his legs, and the throwing ability to pop the top off of a defense. It will be a very interesting battle between the two, as the competition continues this fall leading up to the season opener on the road against Miami. Head coach Marcus Freeman will have a very difficult decision to make, but Minchey is very confident in his abilities. Official – Inter Milan Target Not In Atalanta Squad For Friendly Match Vs RB Leipzig

Ademola Lookman is not in the Atalanta squad for today's friendly match against RB Leipzig amid persistent transfer links with Inter Milan. The Nigerian is out as he reportedly recovers from a calf injury. However, the transfer saga is also in the background. I nerazzurri convocati per #RBLipsiaAtalanta 📝 Our squad list for tomorrow's game 📝#GoAtalantaGo ⚫🔵 — Atalanta B.C. (@Atalanta_BC) August 1, 2025 Inter Milan have received Atalanta's response to their second offer for forward Ademola Lookman. And it was not the one that they were hoping for. La Dea have rejected the Nerazzurri's offer of €45 million including add-ons. That is up from the €40 million bid that Inter had made a couple of weeks ago. This has left Inter frustrated. And it has also drawn the ire of Lookman himself, who has scrubbed mention of Atalanta from his Instagram account. New La Dea coach Ivan Juric is leading the team out in a friendly match against RB Leipzig. However, Lookman is not part of the squad available to the Croatian tactician. However, this is not the result of Lookman being imminently up for sale. Rather, the 27-year-old is still recovering from a calf issue according to reports.

Roma agree Solbakken sale to Nordsjaelland

Roma have reportedly agreed the sale of Ola Solbakken to Nordsjaelland, two and a half years since his move from Bodo/Glimt. According to Il Tempo and the player has already flown out to Norway to complete and medical and the two clubs are exchanging documents this evening. This had been an ill-fated transfer to the Stadio Olimpico as a free agent from Bodo/Glimt in January 2023. Solbakken flopped for Roma EMPOLI, ITALY – MAY 4: Ola Solbakken of Empoli FC greets the fans after during the Serie A match between Empoli and SS Lazio at Stadio Carlo Castellani on May 4, 2025 in Empoli, Italy. (Photo by) Solbakken made only 15 competitive appearances in the Giallorossi jersey, where he scored one goal and provided two assists. He went out on a series of loan spells to Olympiacos in Greece, Japanese club Urawa Reds, and spent last season in Serie A with relegated Empoli. Under contract with Roma until June 2027, this will nonetheless represent a profit for them, as he had arrived for free. It is going to be a permanent transfer and therefore get him off the Roma books. This is a return home for the Norway international, who has 11 senior caps for his country, able to play on the right, left or in a more central attacking role.
