Police raided former New Look store in North Wales and found new 'homegrown' business
Police raided a former New Look store and found a new "homegrown" enterprise. The UK store brand closed its site in Bangor back in 2023.
The landlord has since submitted plans to convert the site close to Bangor Cathedral into smaller retail units after saying they couldn't secure a new retail tenant.
But it looks like a different enterprise has taken over the site in recent months.
The Gwynedd North community policing team said: "A sophisticated cannabis cultivation has been uncovered by the Clear, Hold, Build team in Bangor. On Tuesday 1st of July 2025, North Wales Police received information suggesting that cannabis was being cultivated at the old New Look site in Bangor complete with lighting, ventilation and enough cannabis plants to start a small forest.
"Officers have accessed the address and located a large scale cannabis grow, not exactly the kind of greenery we like to see in Bangor. While we support homegrown businesses, this one went way beyond the legal limit.
"Our investigation is ongoing and we would ask that anyone with information comes forward, we are particularly interested in any movements, vehicles or persons entering or exiting the building since April 2025. Information can also be submitted anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

Jamie had closed the shop as usual at 6pm on Friday, July 4. When returning for his shift at 8am the following day, he discovered the damage. "My cousin had picked me up as I was cutting his hair. We drove past and I noticed that the window was smashed in. "I was just gutted," he said. "It's a small business and I work alone - it's just not something you expect to turn up to." "I don't have a sign above the shop, so the window displayed all my details - the name, logo, contact, Instagram - and was a way to welcome people in. I've been leaving my window open now, just to show people that I am open." The cost of the damage, in addition to having the window boarded up, is estimated at hundreds of pounds. Despite the incident, the shop remains open for business as police investigate. Dog worrying livestock in Powys investigated by police
Police are investigating a report of a dog worrying livestock in a Powys village. The incident happened sometime between 6pm and 6.30pm on Monday (July 7) in the Castle Road and Crosslikey area of Churchstoke. Dyfed-Powys Police have not given details about what type of animals were injured or how many were involved. "Livestock worrying is a criminal offence and comes under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953," police said in a social media post warning people that the details could be "distressing" for some. "This isn't just a threat to a farmer or landowner's livelihood, it's also a dangerous situation for the animals involved, and could lead to more risk if the animals get onto the road. "Always keep your dog under control around other animals and if you see a dog on the loose worrying animals, report it to us." Police closed the A496 near Llandecwyn on Tuesday morning, July 8. The road, between Maentwrog and Talsarnau, was closed off shortly before 10am and did not re-open until around lunchtime. North Wales Police is not treating the incident as suspicious and has informed the deceased's next of kin.
