Amyl and the Sniffers win song of the year at 2025 Apra awards
The track – the first single from the Melbourne punk quartet's 2024 album Cartoon Darkness – is a brazen kiss-off to industry gatekeepers and naysayers. 'I think it's a comedic way of rubbing the dog's nose in its own dog piss after it weed on your favourite rug,' frontwoman Amy Taylor has said of the song.
The Apra award is the latest honour in a mammoth few months for Amyl and the Sniffers, who were recently nominated for best international group at the Brit awards. A Guardian review of Cartoon Darkness said the band were 'on the brink of transforming critical acclaim and cult status into something much bigger'. True to form, they are now partway through a mostly sold-out US tour – which saw them play Coachella earlier in April – before heading to Glastonbury later this year.
Song of the year is the only peer-voted category at the Apras, where most awards are determined by airplay and royalties.

Also a big winner at the awards, which were held at Melbourne Town Hall, was Tame Impala's Kevin Parker – who won both most performed Australian work and most performed pop work for his contribution to Dua Lipa's single Houdini.
The Apra board of directors does have discretion over a few categories including songwriter of the year – which went to Apra favourite Troye Sivan. It marks the Australian pop star's third win after taking home song of the year in 2024 for Rush and breakthrough songwriter in 2017.
The board also selected emerging songwriter of the year, which was won this year by Royel Otis – the indie rock duo who had a breakthrough year in 2024 with a debut album and two viral covers of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Murder on the Dancefloor and the Cranberries' Linger.
A highlight of the night was the Ted Albert award – a lifetime achievement honour – which went to Kylie Minogue. 'Seventeen-year-old me would not be able to compute the life that music has given me,' she said in a video acceptance speech. 'We all know it's work. You work for it, but I feel like whatever we give and whatever it might take from us, we receive more.'
Six-time Apra winner Sia won most performed Australian work overseas for her 2016 hit Unstoppable, which was released as a US radio single in 2022 after it resurfaced on TikTok that year.
Grammy winner Keanu Torres took home the international recognition award – previously titled the overseas recognition award – in the first time the prize has been presented since 2019. The songwriter and producer, also known as Keanu Beats, has worked with Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and The Kid Laroi.
Other genre awards on the night went to Paradise by Coterie, for most performed alternative work; New Love by Ziggy Alberts, for blues and roots; Take Forever (Hally's Song) by Cooper Alan, for country; Saving Up by Dom Dolla, for dance and electronic; Epitaph by Make Them Suffer, for hard rock and heavy metal; Fall Back by Lithe, for hip-hop and rap; Space by Kaiit, for R&B and soul; and Through the Trees by King Stingray, for rock.

Chloe Kelly's proud husband joins sweet tributes after Women's Euros win
The Lionesses have been met with an outpouring of love and appreciation from their nearest and dearest following England's victory at the Women's Euros 2025 Final. After remaining at loggerheads with old rivals Spain for much of the match, the squad finally brought football home with a 3-1 win during penalty shootouts. This was second time lucky for the Lionesses, who were previously beaten by Spain during the 2023 World Cup. Things got off to a shaky start with a missed kick from Beth Mead, but England managed to forge ahead thanks to some sterling work from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. This gave woman of the match Chloe Kelly the chance to catch up, scoring the winning spot-kick. As the country celebrates, the Lionesses' partners have joined the nation in sharing their pride. Woman of the hour Chloe is married to groundsman and greenkeeper Scott Moore, having reportedly met while she was playing for Everton and married in 2024 after five years of dating. Scott's Instagram account is private, but Chloe reposted his pride-filled Instagram tribute to her own Story after the match ended. 'Speechless once again,' he wrote in the accompanying text, along with two silver heart emojis. 'I'm so grateful to have you by my side,' Chloe added below Scott's picture and words. Women's England Captain Leah Williamson's biggest cheerleader was partner Elle Smith. The former Miss USA winner showed her support in a t-shirt emblazoned with the slogan 'Live, Laugh, Leah.' Although the pair have never confirmed that they are dating, they appeared to 'soft launch' their relationship this year in a series of loved-up social media posts. Leah's supportive partner previously showcased her pride after a match back in May, sharing a black-and-white selfie in which Elle wrapped her arms around Leah from behind. Ashley Hodson, partner of Lauren Hemp, celebrated the team's win by sharing an Instagram Story and a series of pictures to her account. 'Champions babyyy! So proud 🫶🏴🏆', she wrote in the caption to her post. In these pictures, she and Lauren could be seen standing side by side, with a grinning Ashley holding up the freshly won medal. Meanwhile, in her Instagram Stories, Ashley described Lauren as her 'inspo,' sharing a picture of Lauren holding the trophy aloft. Another image also depicted Lauren mid-celebration, roaring in victory in the wake of the team's win. Lauren has been dating Sheffield United midfielder Hodson since 2023. At the end of a Heineken-filled day, Joe Bunney, boyfriend of Ella Toone (and footballer for Stalybridge Celtic), shared footage from her joyous victory celebration. 'Words don't describe how proud I am of you,' he wrote in one Instagram Story. In the next, he shared a selfie with Ella, writing 'BACK 2 BACK' in the caption, along with two trophy emojis and two red hearts. Vivianne Miedema, the girlfriend of Beth Mead, shared a selfie with partner Beth and Australian footballer Steph Catley. 'Proud proud' the Dutch footballer wrote in the accompanying caption to her Instagram Stories post. She then echoed the sentiment in a post to her main Instagram feed, sharing a snap of Beth sitting on her lap in the wake of the match. More Trending '🥹 proud of you,' she wrote in the accompanying caption. In the comments below, Beth responded: 'Love you ❤️' The football power couple first met while playing for Arsenal and have been together ever since. Got a story? Beyoncé sends fans wild as she reunites with Destiny's Child after seven years
Pop superstar Beyonce had an epic end to her Cowboy Carter world tour as she was joined by her Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams on stage Beyoncé celebrated the end of her record-breaking Cowboy Carter tour with a very special reunion with her Destiny's Child bandmates. She brought the curtain down on the tour in spectacular fashion as the band reunited for a series of hits. The pop superstar performed her final show at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium and was joined by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. They performed their mega hits Bootylicious and Lose My Breath. Destiny's Child also gave a rendition of Beyoncé's Renaissance track Energy as well as the viral "mute" challenge. The last time the trio performed together was back in 2018 when Kelly and Michelle made a cameo at Beyoncé's Coachella show. They split back in 2005, with the fresh reunion sparking a huge frenzy among their fans as they declared it the "perfect ending" to the tour. One fan said: "THE HUGGING AND HOLDING HANDS AT THE END??? I'M FALLING TO MY KNEES." Another added: "The Cowboy Carter era changed my life, just like renaissance did, and I cannot imagine where act 3 will take us. Oh Beyonce the once in a lifetime artist you are." Someone else commented: "Oh when Destiny's Child reunites, it's not nostalgia - it's divine timing... Beyoncé closed Cowboy Carter with the loudest mic drop in history." A fourth wrote: "Y'all will never understand how iconic this is considering they're one of the most successful girl groups of all time." Another shared: "Beyoncé closing Cowboy Carter with Kelly and Michelle by her side feels like the perfect ending." The tour wasn't always smooth sailing for Beyoncé, however, as she had her unreleased music stolen during a stop. According to a police report, the music was taken from a car in Atlanta. Footage showed plans and concert set lists were also taken from the Jeep Wagoneer. Beyoncé, who has won 35 Grammy Awards since 2001, stoically continued to impress her fans despite the news. In addition to the music, two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, luxury clothing and accessories, and "sensitive material" belonging to the star were stolen, police said. Earlier in the tour, Beyoncé almost fell out of a car, which was propelled into the air at a concert in her home city. While performing in Houston during her flying car stint, the cables appeared to be uneven and left Beyoncé tilting over the edge until she was brought back down. In videos taken by fans, the singer kept it professional and was cool, calm and collected while the incident was resolved. The star since addressed the situation with humour on Instagram. She shared a video montage of her show, including her car malfunction, along with the caption: "Sittin' Sidewayz". The tour, which began in late April, has taken Queen Bey to several large stadiums across Europe and the US.
