*Korea, Egypt hold seminar to strengthen manufacturing supply chain cooperation*
The event, held at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, sought to strengthen the foundation for collaboration between Korean companies and key players in Egypt's manufacturing sector, with the objective of promoting joint growth within the manufacturing ecosystems of both nations.
Egyptian participants included representatives from the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), and leading companies such as Elsewedy, GB Auto, El Araby, and Multicare Pharma. Over 60 representatives from various Korean companies attended the seminar both in person and online.
Ambassador Kim Yonghyon highlighted the significance of the year, marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Egypt. He noted that over the past three decades, the two countries have developed robust economic ties in trade, investment, and infrastructure projects, with manufacturing playing a central role in this bilateral partnership.
Ambassador Kim emphasised that combining Egypt's potential as a regional manufacturing hub with Korea's technological and industrial competitiveness could lead to a mutually beneficial cooperation model. He also observed that Korean companies currently operating in Egypt are actively contributing to the local manufacturing ecosystem through collaboration with Egyptian firms. Furthermore, major Egyptian corporations are building partnership models with Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), producing tangible results in industrial cooperation.
He expressed hope that the seminar, which focused on promising sectors such as automotive, electronics, power equipment, healthcare, and defence industries, would lead to expanded mutual benefits and sustainable growth in the manufacturing sectors of both countries.
As a follow-up to the seminar, KOTRA will organise a two-week online business matchmaking event from 15 to 29 May. This initiative will facilitate one-on-one consultations between Korean and Egyptian companies to explore concrete opportunities for cooperation in manufacturing.

SCZone Delegation Taps Chinese Manufacturers to Boost Local Industry
Taarek Refaat A high-level delegation from Egypt's General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), led by Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien, continued its investment promotion tour across China by visiting Zhejiang Province to deepen industrial cooperation, particularly in the automotive and green energy sectors. This initiative aims to localize key manufacturing industries in Egypt, increase export capacity, and support the country's strategy to become a hub for electric vehicle and renewable energy production. The delegation kicked off the third day of the tour in Ninghai, where they visited the headquarters of KIBING Group, the world's second-largest producer of flat glass and the third-largest manufacturer of solar panel glass. Gamal El-Dien revealed that KIBING is set to establish the region's largest solar glass factory in the Ain Sokhna Integrated Zone, under SCZONE. The plant will span 800,000 square meters, with an expected investment of $685 million, creating up to 3,000 direct jobs upon full operation. Approximately 80% of the plant's output will be exported, primarily to European and American markets, with the remaining 20% allocated to the domestic Egyptian market, a share that could increase based on local demand. The factory is expected to rely on Egyptian silica sand as a key input, contributing to the localization of the green energy industry. Coordination is underway with national authorities to secure energy and infrastructure needs for the project. The delegation also visited Lynk & Co, an advanced vehicle manufacturing facility operated by Zhejiang Geely Holding in partnership with Sweden's Volvo. The visit focused on understanding cutting-edge automotive production processes and identifying investment requirements such as land, utilities, workforce needs, and technological transfer, core to Egypt's strategy of building a strong local auto industry. Later in the day, the SCZONE team participated in a high-level roundtable organized by the Ningbo Foreign Affairs Office, with participation from senior officials including Yi Qijun, Director General for Europe and Africa Cooperation. The session brought together six of China's leading auto parts manufacturers, including: Joyson (electronics, safety systems, displays), Minth Group (structural components, plastics; operates in the US, Mexico, Japan, Germany), Tuopu Group, Jifeng Co. (seating and interior systems), Ruitai (suspension and steering), Wuhan Auto. Discussions centered on the potential for localizing auto parts manufacturing within SCZONE, viewed as essential for supporting a full-fledged automotive production ecosystem. During the session, Waleid Gamal El-Dien gave a comprehensive presentation highlighting SCZONE's strategic geographic position, integrated industrial-port infrastructure, and access to major global markets through free trade agreements. Egyptian Minister of Petroleum on two-day official visit to Cyprus
SEENEWS Stock Watch The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Karim Badawi, is paying a two-day visit to Cyprus on July 23 and 24, at the invitation of the Minister of Energy, George Papanastasiou. According to a Ministry of Energy press release, the visit is taking place within the framework of the agreed cooperation between the two Ministries for the close progress monitoring of the deposits development project in block 6 of the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus, following the signing of the Host Government Agreement (HGA) in Egypt on February 17, 2025. As stated, Badawi is accompanied in Cyprus by a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and the Egyptian Natural Gas Authority (EGAS). It is noted that during his visit to Cyprus, the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum will also meet with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to discuss the progress of the development of both the "Kronos" and "Aphrodite" fields. It is added that immediately after the meeting with the President of the Republic, the two Ministers and technical teams will meet with representatives of ENI and TotalEnergies to be briefed on the progress of technical and commercial consultations for the development of "Kronos". Egypt's PM Welcomes Global Luxury Brands to Explore Investment Opportunities
Taarek Refaat Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met today with representatives of major global luxury brands in New Alamein City, aiming to position Egypt as a regional hub for high-end retail and attract new foreign direct investment in the fashion and lifestyle sector. The high-level meeting included Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, alongside Claudine Caviac and Ibrahim Sami—strategic partners to some of the world's leading luxury fashion houses. Senior officials from Egypt's export, investment, and trade authorities were also in attendance. PM Madbouly welcomed the global brand representatives and emphasized Egypt's strategic market potential, noting a growing domestic appetite for luxury products and the opportunity to enhance retail offerings for international tourists. "Egypt has a vast consumer base. Many Egyptians travel abroad for luxury shopping, and we want to provide those experiences here at home—especially for tourists visiting Egypt," he stated. He highlighted Egypt's recent economic reforms, including foreign exchange liberalization, which have stabilized currency markets and improved the investment environment. The government is actively working to support "shopping tourism" as part of broader economic diversification goals. Minister Abdel Ghaffar stressed the government's commitment to attracting international retail giants and detailed several incentives available to foreign investors. These include tax benefits and trade exemptions under the Euro 1 certificate, allowing goods imported into Egypt from Europe to benefit from reduced customs duties. Claudine Caviac, who has previously visited Egypt for both business and leisure, praised the country's recent development and expressed her optimism about its stability and potential. 'I'm impressed by Egypt's progress. There are clear signs of opportunity here,' she said, noting that she would conduct a detailed feasibility study and present it to leading global luxury brands. Caviac added that the aim would be to recreate a successful, integrated shopping experience for both Egyptians and foreign tourists—making Egypt a compelling destination for high-end retail. Strategic partner Ibrahim Sami echoed that sentiment, expressing strong interest in bringing international fashion investments to Egypt and contributing his expertise to the project. Madbouly concluded the meeting by calling for the development of a concrete action plan to ensure the successful entry of luxury brands into the Egyptian market.
