I tried Tesco's new Birthday Cake sandwich
It comes just weeks after a similar "strange" strawberries and cream sandwich from M&S also made headlines. The new Tesco cake is causing a divide, with some shoppers loving it, but others not so much. So I thought I'd bite the birthday cake bullet and buy the new sarnie as part of my meal deal. Tesco's Birthday Cake sandwich (Image: Newsquest) READ MORE: Tesco's birthday cake sandwich is leaving shoppers divided READ MORE: Plaque 'reveals source' of Barr's Irn Bru and its 'unique' flavour The purple packaging let me know I was in for a treat, and I must say as I gazed through the window through to the jam and sprinkle infused filling - I felt like I was observing a weird new animal unveiled at the zoo. The brioche-esque bread featured on the packaging had me hopeful that the sandwich would be a melt-in-the-mouth, Victoria sponge-esque treat. As a hint to what I was in store for, the packaging alluded to a sandwich filled with "full fat soft cheese, seedless strawberry jam, multi-coloured edible sugar decorations and vanilla frosting in brioche style white bread." I tried Tesco's new Birthday Cake sandwich - my verdict (Image: Newsquest) READ MORE: Spider-Man wows crowds with stunts during blockbuster filming on city streets I opened the packet, expecting to be hit with a wave of smells that would transport me back to a time of party hats and balloons. There was a slight sugary-sweet aroma to the piece, and I decided it was time to dig into it. Biting into it was a weird experience; the bread was claggy with the jam and heavy with the filling of cheese and icing. I couldn't make heads or tails of it on first bite, to be honest. After eating some more of it, two more bites to be exact, my mind was made up - it was an absolute no from me. Call me a party pooper if you want, but this is one birthday cake that would ruin my celebration. At 515kcal for the sandwich, it packs a calorific punch, and to be honest, I'd rather use those on an actual cake - any actual cake. It just doesn't make sense, and it left me wondering one thing in particular. Why? Just, why?

Brother of Oasis fan Lee Claydon who fell to death made tragic Facebook post before fatal fall
Aaron Claydon has started a Gofundme to raise money following his brother's shock death. A Facebook post from the brother of a tragic Oasis fan shows how their family's excitement turned to heartache. Beloved father Lee Claydon passed away after plummeting from the stands during one of the Manchester band's shows at London's Wembley Stadium. And his brother, Aaron Claydon, had posted on social media about their trip, ahead of their Saturday jaunt to see their musical heroes. Tagging his brother and other family members in the post, Aaron said, "today is gonna be the day", one of the lyrics from the Oasis smash-hit 'Wonderwall', The Mirror reported. Lee, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene at Wembley Stadium on Saturday having suffered 'injuries consistent with a fall'. Since the incident, Aaron set up a GoFundMe page in honour of his brother and to help with financial support for his family. In a touching tribute, Aaron said his brother was the person he 'always looked up to' and that their family has been 'turned upside down' by his death. The family including his partner Amanda is 'struggling to deal with this devastation and unexpected loss", Aaron said. He wrote: 'Lee leaves behind his Son, Dad, Partner , Brothers, Sisters, Nephews and Niece. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "Lee was a loving family man who was a role model to his son Harry and was loved so much by all his family. Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon and we will miss him so very much. "Lee loved all outdoor activities, one of his favourite hobbies was fishing. He also loved music and his guitar. He also really enjoyed going to watch and support the boys and his nephew at their football games. "Amanda and the boys have our full support at this very sad time which is why we would love to be able to help them financially as well as emotionally. "Please help us raise as much funds as we can to take one worry off Amanda and family right now as they are going through any family's worst nightmare." His cousin Shannon Gabrielle said: "Honestly don't even know what words to write right now. My cousin Lee tragically passed away this weekend after no doubt having the time of his life at the Oasis concert this weekend. "Most will have seen snippets in the news I'm sure & as you can imagine it has devastated the whole family and for his closest knit family unit it's the toughest time they are going through ever right now. "Sharing his go fund me page, in the hope that any donations, big or small, will go a long way towards helping his partner Amanda & the boys throughout this awful period and costs of things." In her tribute, which she posted on Facebook, she said: "You just don't fathom you will go out for a night of amazing fun & not come home at the end of it." Oasis fans took to Facebook after the gig. The parent of one gig-goer said her teenage son "saw him falling" but was too far away to see him land. Another woman said the man fell into their block and described what happened as 'awful'. Claire Collier wrote: "It happened about [five] mins before the end of the gig, it was awful... thinking of his family and friends and everyone that witnessed it." During the Sunday gig, Oasis dedicated Live Forever to 'all the people who can't be here tonight'. The touching moment came as the Manchester band brought to a close their first run of five gigs at the venue as part of their Live 25 tour. Addressing fans on Sunday night after finishing Whatever, singer Liam Gallagher said: 'This one's for all the people who can't be here tonight, but who are here if you know what I mean, and aren't they looking lovely. Live Forever.' A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said on Sunday: 'Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert-goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall.' A spokesperson for the stadium has since told the Mirror: 'Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard. "We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders - including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the police." They added that they "deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue.'
