Police: RM750mil lost to bogus investment schemes in first half of 2025
Police noted the sharp increase, which is more than double the RM350 million lost during the same period last year.
A total of 4,368 cases were reported this year, involving losses of RM750,519,581, said Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.
"This is a big increase compared to the 2,715 cases reported during the same period in 2024, which saw losses exceeding RM350 million," he added.

PERAK/KEDAH: Police have dismantled an illegal wildlife hunting and trafficking network following raids in Perak and Kedah. The Bukit Aman Wildlife Crime Bureau, alongside local enforcement agencies, arrested five suspects and seized contraband worth over RM350,000. In Lumut, Perak, four men aged 31 to 61 were detained after authorities discovered seven wild boar carcasses, 148 packages of water monitor lizard parts, and 80 packages suspected to contain wild boar meat. A live monitor lizard, a rifle, bullets, and tiger claw pendants were also confiscated. JKDNKA director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim stated, 'The total value of the items seized in the Lumut raid was estimated at RM150,895.' The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and the Arms Act 1960. In Kupang, Kedah, a 30-year-old man was arrested with 20 protected white-rumped sharma birds worth RM200,000. The Kedah Forestry Department is handling further investigations. Two foreign investment projects announced during the government's trade and investment missions abroad have now begun, refuting claims Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visits abroad are fruitless. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Gul Technologies, a company announced during the trade and investment mission to China last year, is currently building its factory in Kulim, Kedah, with an investment of RM350 million for Phase 1. He said the project is set to create 350 jobs for locals. 'What is interesting is that this company is collaborating with Kulim Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is responsible for training young talents. 'Through this collaboration, the company will employ 100 local technicians who will be sent to China for training,' said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today. Meanwhile, another company, EDA, which was announced during the trade and investment mission to Italy last year, has started an investment worth RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA also has 150 vendors among local companies. This means EDA is not only creating jobs at their facilities, but also supporting Malaysian workers in 150 local companies,' he said. These two projects are among the 2,198 manufacturing projects that have been approved throughout the Madani Government's administration from 2023 to the first quarter of this year. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz confirmed the progress, highlighting their economic impact. Gul Technologies, secured during the 2024 China trade mission, is constructing a RM350 million Phase 1 factory in Kulim, Kedah. The project will generate 350 local jobs. 'This firm partners Kulim Advanced Technologies to train 100 technicians in China,' Tengku Zafrul stated on X. Meanwhile, Italy's EDA, announced during the 2024 Europe mission, has invested RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA collaborates with 150 local vendors, supporting jobs beyond its own operations,' he added. These are among 2,198 manufacturing projects approved under the MADANI Government from 2023 to Q1 2025, with 1,849 (84.2%) already implemented.
