Skubal strikes out 13, wins 10th straight decision as Tigers beat Twins 3-0

DETROIT (AP) — Tarik Skubal struck out 13 hitters in seven innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 3-0 on Sunday night.
Skubal (10-2) only allowed one hit — a clean single to right by Ty France in the fifth inning — as he improved to 10-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last 15 starts. The last double-digit streak in one season by a Detroit lefty was Earl Whitehill's 11-start stretch in 1930.
The strikeouts matched Skubal's career high, last done on May 25 in his 94-pitch shutout against the Guardians.
Chris Paddack (3-7) gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings for the Twins.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on Kerry Carpenter's solo homer in the first inning, and he added a RBI triple in the fifth before leaving the game with an apparent leg injury. Riley Greene hit a solo homer in the fourth.
Will Vest pitched the ninth to pick up his 13th save.
Key moment
Skubal struck out eight of the first nine hitters, including seven in a row, before Byron Buxton lifted a fly ball to Riley Greene on the warning track in left. Buxton is 2 for 15 (.133) in his career against Skubal, though both hits have been homers.

Jalen Williams has wrist surgery; Thunder All-Star expected back for start of season

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Jalen Williams, the All-Star guard/forward who helped the Oklahoma City Thunder win their first NBA title, had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist. The team said he will be re-evaluated in approximately 12 weeks. Thunder general manager Sam Presti said he expects Williams to be ready for the start of the regular season. Williams averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals last season and was named to the All-NBA third team and the NBA All-Defensive second team. He was injured during the Thunder's 125-112 win over the Phoenix Suns on April 9 and played in all 23 postseason games while nursing the torn ligament. Williams averaged 23.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the Finals against the Indiana Pacers, including a playoff career-high 40 points in a 120-109 win in Game 5. 'I really thought it was pretty impressive that he just kept moving along with no excuses and obviously played his best basketball down the stretch of the season,' Presti said. Dr. Steven Shin performed the procedure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev loses to Arthur Rinderknech in first round at Wimbledon

LONDON (AP) — Third-seeded Alexander Zverev lost to 72nd-ranked Arthur Rinderknech 7-6 (3), 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday in a match that was suspended overnight. It was Zverev's earliest exit at a Grand Slam tournament since 2019 — also at the All England Club. Rinderknech, a 29-year-old Frenchman, had only one other career victory at Wimbledon — that was last year. In the buildup to the tournament, Rinderknech reached the quarterfinals at Queen's Club, where he beat Ben Shelton and Reilly Opelka. Zverev has reached the fourth round at Wimbledon three times, including last year, but never beyond that point. He lost to Taylor Fritz in five sets a year ago.
