LSU football cornerback leads all returning SEC defensive backs in key stat
According to PFF, Stamps and Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad each broke up nine passes in 2024, which is the best mark among returning SEC corners in 2025.
Playing opposite of Zy Alexander, Stamps was thrown at a lot in 2024. Stamps was targeted 60 times, but with nine pass breakups and a forced incompletion rate of 18%, Stamps made consistent plays on the ball. Stamps wasn't able to convert any of the pass breakups into picks, though.
Stamps' 2024 play was up and down, but his ability to disrupt and force incompletions is a strong sign we may see a step forward in 2025. Stamps was thrown into the fire as a true freshman in 2023 and struggled with the rest of the LSU defense. But when Stamps got a chance as a full-time starter in 2024, progress was evident.
LSU expects a big year from the secondary with Stamps taking another step.

Adding Pena, Ross and Hudson was critical; Penn State's receivers didn't have a reception in a 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in a CFP semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl. However, there are a few in particular that stand the test of time. With the 2025 college football season almost here, Rivals took a trip down memory lane to name the top 32 recruits since 2000. Plenty of notable names made this list, such as Jadeveon Clowney, Percy Harvin and Julio Jones. The top five kicked off with former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. It's safe to say he lived up to the hype, winning an MVP during his NFL career. The No. 4 recruit on this list was none other than Florida legend Tim Tebow. He won a Heisman Trophy and two national titles during his time in Gainesville. Legendary NFL running back Adrian Peterson claimed the No. 3 spot in the all-time Rival rankings. Where things really get interesting is the top two. Texas legend Vince Young was named the second-best recruit since 2000. There's no doubt he left his mark on the Longhorns. At the end of the day though, it was USC running back Reggie Bush who took home the No. 1 spot. "While playing alongside future No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith at Helix, Bush established himself as one of the most electric high school players both in California and across the country," Rivals wrote. "As a senior in 2002, he ran for 1,691 yards on 140 carries (12.1 YPC) and 27 touchdowns despite missing four games due to injury. He ultimately signed with USC and was one of the country's most dynamic players during the next three seasons, racking up 6,541 all-purpose yards and 52 touchdowns in the rushing, receiving and return game. Bush was a regular on SportsCenter's top-10 highlights and took home the Heisman Trophy in 2005 before declaring for the NFL Draft. He was taken No. 2 overall by the New Orleans Saints but struggled to have the same success at the pro level. He did, however, earn All-Pro honors in 2008." Astros All-Star Isaac Paredes forgoes surgery on 'severe' hamstring injury in hopes of returning this season
Houston Astros All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes has opted to forgo surgery on what the team described as a "severe" hamstring injury in hopes of returning to the lineup this season. General manager Dana Brown discussed the decision with reporters Monday. He said that Paredes had the option of undergoing surgery that would require six months off and end his season or to go through rehab, which would give him a chance to return to the lineup with the Astros in position to make the playoffs. 'He was given two choices — the choice of having surgery or rehabbing,' Brown said, per the Houston Chronicle. 'He selected to rehab it. His whole opinion on this is he wants to work hard to try to get back this season." Paredes sustained his injury while running the bases against the Seattle Mariners on July 19. He went through multiple rounds of imaging to diagnose the injury that Brown said Monday was a 'severe hamstring strain." Paredes also had a platelet-rich plasma injection and will continue to rest the injury before starting a rehab regimen. Before his injury, Paredes was slashing .259/.359/.470 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI. His effort earned him his second career All-Star Game selection in July. With Paredes injured, the Astros bolstered their infield by reuniting with shortstop Carlos Correa via a trade-deadline deal with the Minnesota Twins. They also added utility infielder Ramón Urías from the Baltimore Orioles. Brown called the potential surplus of infielders in the event of Paredes' return "a good problem to have." Houston entered Monday at 63-50 and with a three-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West.
