Ghebreyesus thanked Mishra for India's leadership on the Pandemic Accord adoption, and support of increased assessed contributions to WHO's work to advance health for all.
"Had good meeting with P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to PMO India, on the many areas of close collaboration between WHO and India. We discussed our partnership on the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre, outposted in Jamnagar, which will help the world benefit from the potential of traditional medicine and complement modern approaches to health.
I thanked Dr Mishra for India's leadership on the Pandemic Accord adoption, and support of increased assessed contributions to WHO's work to advance Health for All. I also commended India for its investment in health care infrastructure, the "
Ayushman Bharat
" scheme to expand universal health coverage, and in digital health."
Mishra also held talks with Hara Hiroaki, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination of Japan, on margins of Global Platform for
Disaster Risk Reduction
2025.
In a post on X, the Indian Permanent Mission at Geneva stated, "Fruitful discussions between Principal Secretary to PM Dr. P.K Mishra and Mr. Hara Hiroaki, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination of Japan, on margins of GPDRR 2025. Explored enhanced India-Japan collaboration on disaster resilience and exchanging expertise in risk reduction strategies."
Mishra also held talks on disaster preparedness with Major General Ariunbuyan Gombojav, Chief of National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia, on the sidelines of GPDRR 2025.

Meanwhile, BIMSTEC countries convened at the High-Level UNDRR-BIMSTEC event on the margins of GPDRR 2025 in Geneva. India's head of delegation to GPDRR, Principal Secretary to PM PK Mishra, highlighted the role of the BIMSTEC Centre for Disaster Management, as announced by PM Narendra Modi at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, to accelerate the region's implementation of the Sendai Framework.

DMHO inspects UPHC in Atmakur
Atmakur (Nandyal district): Dr R Venkata Ramana, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) of Nandyal, conducted a surprise inspection of the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Atmakur town on Thursday. During the inspection, Dr Ramana emphasised strict adherence to punctuality and professional conduct by medical officers and health staff. He cautioned that any lapses in duty would result in stringent disciplinary action. As part of the inspection, he reviewed the functioning of the OP (Outpatient) department, interacted with patients to assess the quality of services, and verified the distribution of medicines and the maintenance of medical records. He also directed the staff to ensure proper display of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) of materials related to national health and family welfare programmes for the benefit of patients and the general public. Later, the DM&HO proceeded to Sivapuram Goodem village to inspect a mobile medical camp being conducted as part of the outreach healthcare services. He examined the availability of medicines and medical registers and interacted with patients to gauge the effectiveness of service delivery. Dr Ramana instructed medical officers, secretariat health staff, and ASHA workers to provide timely and efficient care without negligence. Any failure in service delivery, he warned, would lead to disciplinary proceedings. Additionally, the DM&HO monitored the implementation of the 'Friday - Dry Day' sanitation campaign in the village and urged officials to enforce it strictly. He also reviewed the progress of ABHA ID generation and the enrolment of eligible beneficiaries under the PMJAY (Ayushman Bharat) scheme, directing health teams to ensure that no deserving individual is left out. During the visit, he also inspected the NCD–CD (Non-Communicable Diseases – Communicable Diseases) survey activities, reiterating that any form of negligence in conducting the surveys would be met with firm action.

‘WHO initiative to ensure affordable eyecare services for all by 2030'
Over 800 million people across the world have vision problems and do not have access to eye care, said Dr Yutaro Setoya, Team Lead Non-communicable Diseases and Comorbidities, World Health Organisation (WHO) India. Dr Setoya was addressing a conference on adolescent eye health in India — with a special focus on the alarming increase in myopia — at Amity University, Noida. The conference was organised by WHO and Drishti, an NGO working to create awareness on eye care, founded by Amity student Sanjana Chauhan. 'Vision problems affect millions of people worldwide. It not only affects your eyesight, but also affects your education, economic productivity, and overall well-being. Children and adolescents between five and 15 years of age suffer from vision impairment and refractive errors,' Dr Setoya said. Dr Setoya added that the WHO has launched a global initiative — 'Global Specs 2030' — to ensure that everyone has access to affordable eyecare services by 2030. 'Our vision health champions are the youth ambassadors for adolescent eye care because we believe in the power of youth as catalysts of change.'

Robotic hip replacement op at KGMU
Lucknow: Doctors at KGMU successfully performed two robot-assisted hip replacement surgeries, making it the first govt institution in UP to achieve this feat. Both patients received the surgery free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The first patient, 20-year-old Durgesh, a farmer from Lakhimpur Kheri, suffered from arthritis that severely damaged his hip, causing him intense pain and making it difficult to walk. After being advised to undergo hip replacement surgery by local doctors, he was referred to KGMU. In the orthopaedics department, he was admitted under the head of department, Prof Ashish Kumar, who opted for robotic surgery due to its precision and quicker recovery time. Similarly, 75-year-old Brahm Dev from Basti, also suffering from severe arthritis, underwent the robotic hip replacement. Given his advanced age, conventional surgery posed higher risks. Therefore, Prof Ashish and his team decided to perform the procedure using a robot.
