2025 MLB Odds: Bettors All In On Padres Since Trade Deadline
Major League Baseball 2025 MLB Odds: Bettors All In On Padres Since Trade Deadline Updated Aug. 4, 2025 3:54 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link The star-studded MLB on FOX desk of A-Rod, Derek Jeter and Big Papi picked their trade deadline winners and losers, but they aren't the only ones voicing their opinions on all the recent movement in the league. For bettors at BetMGM, since the MLB trade deadline, it's been all about San Diego. At the sportsbook, 33% of the money (most) is on the Padres +950 to win the National League. Also, since the trade deadline, 23% of the money (also the most) is on them to win the World Series. In that spot, they're currently +1600. Let's take a look at some of the Padres' other odds since at BetMGM as of Aug. 4. Padres National League West Winner +700 (bet $10 to win $80 total) World Series State of Winning Team California: +210 (bet $10 to win $31 total) World Series: Division of Winning Team NL West: +200 (bet $10 to win $30 total) World Series: League of Winning Team National League: -155 (bet $10 to win $16.45 total) NLCS: Division of Winning Team NL West: +100 (bet $10 to win $20 total) Will JP Sears help boost the Padres to an NL Pennant and a World Series? Are bettors onto something when it comes to riding the Padres hype train? FOX Sports MLB writer Deesha Thosar certainly believes their recent moves have enhanced the roster. "The headline-grabbing move in a bustling trade deadline day for the Padres was the addition of Mason Miller," Thosar wrote. "But addressing some of their biggest question marks at DH and left field was a huge success for San Diego. A.J. Preller landed Laureano, who's enjoying the best season of his career, and O'Hearn, a pure rental piece, from the Orioles. ADVERTISEMENT "Both O'Hearn and Laureano provide necessary upgrades in San Diego's lineup." FOX Sports MLB writer Rowan Kavner, however, thinks Los Angeles is still standing in San Diego's way. "The Mets, Phillies and Padres are all much better positioned now to make a run in the National League," Kavner noted. "Still, I don't think any of them have dethroned the reigning champs [Dodgers] as the team to beat." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Dodgers Predicted To Cut Ties With All-Star Closer After Trade Deadline
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers didn't make too many notable moves at the trade deadline, but they're still one of the better teams in baseball. Going into the stretch run, the Dodgers need to get healthy and play their brand of baseball. But if they can do the former, it could leave them with a roster crunch that results in a player or two getting cut from the roster. Katrina Stebbins of Dodgers Way recently predicted the Dodgers would cut ties with veteran All-Star Alexis Diaz either in the offseason or late in the regular season after holding onto him at the trade deadline. CINCINNATI, OHIO - JULY 29: Alexis Diaz #40 of the Los Angeles Dodgers throws a pitch in the 8th innning of the 5-4 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July... CINCINNATI, OHIO - JULY 29: Alexis Diaz #40 of the Los Angeles Dodgers throws a pitch in the 8th innning of the 5-4 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July 29, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. More"In the event of a roster crunch, Díaz probably won't survive. The Dodgers might just send him to the minors instead of trading him, but either way, he most likely doesn't start the season on the Opening Day roster," Stebbins wrote. "He's done clean work over the 3 1/3 innings he's gotten for the Dodgers so far, but he's also still contending with the 12.00 ERA he left behind in Cincinnati. "There's still time for him to prove that he can be a rare reclamation project that carries over (Anthony Banda, Evan Phillips, and so on), but he hasn't shown enough yet to survive a potential culling." Diaz was a solid buy-low pickup from the Cincinnati Reds, but the Dodgers haven't used him much at all. His numbers with the Reds and in the minor leagues make him a huge question mark, and the Dodgers have a lot of viable options set to return from injury. When Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott and others return from injury, the Dodgers will need to send somebody down to Triple-A or cut them. It seems like that's going to be Diaz unless he can string together four or five more impressive performances in a row. More MLB: Pete Alonso Projected To Sign 4-Year, $110M Deal With NL Powerhouse
