Dodgers Predicted To Cut Ties With All-Star Closer After Trade Deadline
The Los Angeles Dodgers didn't make too many notable moves at the trade deadline, but they're still one of the better teams in baseball.
Going into the stretch run, the Dodgers need to get healthy and play their brand of baseball. But if they can do the former, it could leave them with a roster crunch that results in a player or two getting cut from the roster.
Katrina Stebbins of Dodgers Way recently predicted the Dodgers would cut ties with veteran All-Star Alexis Diaz either in the offseason or late in the regular season after holding onto him at the trade deadline.

"He's done clean work over the 3 1/3 innings he's gotten for the Dodgers so far, but he's also still contending with the 12.00 ERA he left behind in Cincinnati.
"There's still time for him to prove that he can be a rare reclamation project that carries over (Anthony Banda, Evan Phillips, and so on), but he hasn't shown enough yet to survive a potential culling."
Diaz was a solid buy-low pickup from the Cincinnati Reds, but the Dodgers haven't used him much at all. His numbers with the Reds and in the minor leagues make him a huge question mark, and the Dodgers have a lot of viable options set to return from injury.
When Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott and others return from injury, the Dodgers will need to send somebody down to Triple-A or cut them. It seems like that's going to be Diaz unless he can string together four or five more impressive performances in a row.

From Kevin Baxter: Brock Stewart slumped in front of a mostly empty locker in the middle of the Dodgers clubhouse Monday afternoon, a stall that used to belong to pitcher Dustin May, as clubhouse attendants rushed over with boxes of brand new size 13 cleats. A week ago Stewart was pitching for the Minnesota Twins, who wear red cleats. The Dodgers don't, so Stewart needed a makeover. 'I got blue gloves coming too,' he said. Getting dressed properly isn't the only thing players have to worry about when they change teams in the middle of the season. Stewart had a home and family in Minnesota to pack up and move when he learned Thursday that he had been traded from a team with a losing record to one chasing a second straight World Series title. By late Monday evening, Stewart found himself in the middle of that pennant race when he took the mound in the ninth inning of a tie game. It didn't end well, with Stewart (2-2) surrendering a run on three hits while getting just two outs in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. It was a rude homecoming for the right-hander, who was drafted by the Dodgers in 2014 but waived five years later after pitching 36 times over parts of four seasons. After he remade himself during a six-year sojourn in which dropped down to independent ball, Stewart was brought back to Los Angeles to stabilize an overworked, injury-plagued bullpen that has struggled. In his first appearance at Dodger Stadium in the home uniform since 2019, he added to those struggles, giving up hits to the first two batters he faced, then falling behind 2-0 to pinch-hitter Yohel Pozo, who flared a single over the infield to drive in the go-ahead run. Yohel Pozo delivers pinch-hit RBI single in 9th inning to send Cardinals past Dodgers, 3-2
LOS ANGELES — Pinch-hitter Yohel Pozo delivered a tiebreaking RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals hung on for a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. After Willson Contreras got a leadoff single off new Dodgers reliever Brock Stewart (2-2), pinch-runner Garrett Hampson eventually scored on a soft single to right by Pozo. The Cards' backup catcher celebrated enthusiastically after just his second hit in his last eight games. Sonny Gray yielded one hit over seven stellar innings for the Cards, and two relievers combined on a perilous three-hitter for St. Louis. 'Do not put him out on loan'
After another impressive pre-season perfrormance from Rio Ngumoha, we asked if you want to see the 16 year-old in Liverpool's first team this season. Here are some of your comments: Mark: Rio should be in the main squad. If you are good enough then you are old enough. But wrap him in cotton wool - he is going to be a star. Carl: I think Rio has an exciting future ahead of him. He is only 16 so I think Liverpool should send him out on loan to Tranmere. Go an help them in League Two. Nigel: Baby steps. We do not want him to think he is the finished article - I don't know his personality, some can handle it but most cannot. A lot of maturing and growing still to come. Dan: He glides past people with ease, you can see his football IQ is beyond his years, his positioning, passing, he has everything to be the next world beater. Hopefully Arne gives him a chance and with Diaz off to pastures new it opens up a slot for him on the left. Yes it's preseason but I think he is capable of doing that on a weekly basis in the Premier League. Eugene: Do not put him out on loan. Keep him at the club. He should make substitute appearances in the league and perhaps play all League Cup and FA cup games.
