Italian airliner ITA lands at Benghazi's Benina airport for the first time in 14 years

Libya Herald3 days ago

‎Benghazi's Benina Airport received yesterday the first Italian Airways ITA flight arriving directly from Rome, after a hiatus of nearly 14 years. The flight is considered by the eastern based Libyan authorities as the official launch by the carrier of its regular Rome to Benghazi service.‎
‎The flight carried onboard the Italian Consul, the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, several Italian officials, in addition to representatives of more than 100 Italian companies.
The arrivals will be participating in the activities of the Libyan Italian Development Forum to be held in Benghazi from 25 to 26 June.‎
The eastern based Libyan authorities view the return of this service within the framework of a strategic plan supervised by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by the Haftar family. The flight service is seen as a qualitative leap aimed at reactivating the infrastructure and enhancing the investment environment in the country.
They report that the inauguration of this air route is the fruit of a series of meetings and meetings he held with several Italian officials and representatives of major Italian companies during the last period, which paved the way for this achievement.
The resumption of this line represents an important gateway for the return of international companies and contributes directly to supporting comprehensive development efforts and the advancement of various sectors inside Libya.
ITA flights to Tripoli suspended due to militia clashes
It will be recalled, with some irony, that while ITA is launching its new service to Benghazi, it is still temporarily suspending its service to Tripoli after the breakout of militia clashes in the capital in May and June. ITA had commenced flights to Tripoli in January this year.
ITA was also reported by Libyan officials to be planning direct flights between Libya and Milan ''soon''.

Darwin Nunez says yes to Liverpool exit but Reds face wait to sell unwanted star

Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez has no future at Anfield after falling down the pecking order during Arne Slot's first season, and he wants to tie up a move to Napoli Darwin Nunez has told Napoli that he is ready to leave Liverpool this summer - but the Italian club are ready to play a waiting game in a bid to force the Reds to drop their £70million valuation. Nunez, the 26-year-old signing from Benfica, has come to the conclusion that he has no future at Anfield under boss Arne Slot after making just eight Premier League starts as the Dutchman landed the title in his first season in charge. ‌ He has given Napoli the green light to find an agreement with Liverpool - but the Italian champions believe a deal of around £50million would represent a fair price for both clubs. ‌ They are prepared to see how the summer transfer market develops, with Slot's sights on adding a new striker to his team capable of bringing more goals on a consistent basis. Newcastle 's Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt are both admired by the Liverpool boss - but both will cost big money. After already spending £185million this summer on Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, the Merseysiders will want to generate full value for any departures. Napoli are hoping that Victor Osimhen will accept a £67m move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal to strengthen their war chest. That would give the Serie A club more scope to get closer to Liverpool's valuation of Nunez, who scored just seven goals all season. ‌ The Uruguayan wasn't used from the start by Slot for the final two months of the season, with the Reds requiring to make an extra payment to Benfica if he started one more league match after the 3-1 win over Southampton on March 8. Nunez cost an initial £64m when he arrived from Benfica in the summer of 2022, with add-ons - including that aforementioned clause - potentially taking the fee up to £85m. That would have made him Liverpool's most expensive player ever, but Germany international Wirtz has now taken that crown following his move from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100m which could rise to £116m - a British record transfer fee.
