Libyan Airlines denies bankruptcy rumors, calls for urgent government intervention
Libyan Airlines has denied what it described as 'circulating rumors' about declaring bankruptcy, stressing that its operations are ongoing and that all flights are proceeding according to their regular schedules. In an official statement, the company confirmed that it is working to overcome the financial and technical challenges it faces through strategic plans aimed at enhancing its efficiency and ensuring continuity. Company spokesperson Ahmed Al-Taira clarified that the management is making every effort to restructure and revive the airline. However, he voiced an urgent appeal to the Libyan state and relevant authorities to provide the necessary support to save this vital institution. Al-Taira emphasized that the airline has not received any real support over the past three years, especially after the severe damage inflicted on its fleet during the events in the capital, Tripoli. Earlier on Wednesday, Libyan Airlines' management issued a statement explaining the reasons behind the severe crisis it is facing, which has led to delayed salaries for employees and the loss of several benefits, stressing that the current situation is beyond its control. The management explained that the crisis began after operations were forcibly halted due to extensive damage to most of its aircraft and spare parts warehouses during clashes at Tripoli International Airport, noting that this destruction wiped out most of its fleet, leaving the company operating with only one or two planes at best.

Italian airliner ITA lands at Benghazi's Benina airport for the first time in 14 years
Benghazi's Benina Airport received yesterday the first Italian Airways ITA flight arriving directly from Rome, after a hiatus of nearly 14 years. The flight is considered by the eastern based Libyan authorities as the official launch by the carrier of its regular Rome to Benghazi service. The flight carried onboard the Italian Consul, the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, several Italian officials, in addition to representatives of more than 100 Italian companies. The arrivals will be participating in the activities of the Libyan Italian Development Forum to be held in Benghazi from 25 to 26 June. The eastern based Libyan authorities view the return of this service within the framework of a strategic plan supervised by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by the Haftar family. The flight service is seen as a qualitative leap aimed at reactivating the infrastructure and enhancing the investment environment in the country. They report that the inauguration of this air route is the fruit of a series of meetings and meetings he held with several Italian officials and representatives of major Italian companies during the last period, which paved the way for this achievement. The resumption of this line represents an important gateway for the return of international companies and contributes directly to supporting comprehensive development efforts and the advancement of various sectors inside Libya. ITA flights to Tripoli suspended due to militia clashes It will be recalled, with some irony, that while ITA is launching its new service to Benghazi, it is still temporarily suspending its service to Tripoli after the breakout of militia clashes in the capital in May and June. Aldabaiba stresses need to complete Airport Road works in full in conjunction with imminent opening of Tripoli International Airport
Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, emphasised the need to complete the Airport Road works in full in conjunction with the imminent opening of Tripoli International Airport. This came during a meeting held at the Cabinet Office today to follow up on the project to improve and develop the Airport Road, in the presence of the Minister of Transportation, the head of the Transport Projects Implementation Authority, and the head of the Executive Team for the Prime Minister's Initiatives. During the meeting, Aldabaiba stressed the importance of the readiness of this vital axis, which represents the southern façade of the capital, and is directly related to the movement of visitors and passengers. The project includes the development of the road extending from the airport to Bab Al Salam Island, with a length of 23 kilometres, and a width of 19 meters, distributed over five lanes in each direction. It also includes the construction of a service road parallel to the main road, which facilitates the movement of service vehicles and enhances the efficiency of movement along the route. The works also include the maintenance of damaged parts, the treatment of cracks, the repainting of lanes, the installation of modern traffic signals, the implementation of an advanced lighting network along the road, the improvement of sidewalks and afforestation, and the development of the main entrance to the airport. It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers had approved the project earlier, as part of a comprehensive plan to improve the entrances to the capital and raise the efficiency of infrastructure, especially in areas related to the operation of Tripoli International Airport. Italy Temporarily Halts Flights to Mitiga Airport in Libyan Capital
On Wednesday, Italy's national airline postponed its scheduled flights to and from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli for the current week, according to airport director Ibrahim Farkash. In a statement, Farkash clarified that while the Italian carrier has temporarily suspended its operations, this decision is expected to be short-term and based on operational or scheduling considerations, rather than a permanent halt or political factors. He added that flight operations at Mitiga are continuing with other airlines, some of which are resuming their schedules after brief interruptions. Royal Jordanian Airlines may resume its flights to Mitiga as early as today, while Turkish Airlines has already restored its regular service to and from the airport. Meanwhile, EgyptAir has requested to delay its flights for the day but has not suspended future operations. The temporary changes reflect ongoing adjustments in flight coordination at Tripoli's main operational airport, which continues to serve as the capital's primary air travel hub. Farkash also addressed recent reports circulating on social media, denying claims that some airlines have moved their aircraft or operations to Tripoli International Airport. He clarified that there has been no such transfer and that the old Tripoli airport remains mostly inactive for commercial flights. He explained that Tripoli International Airport is currently only partially operational. The runway is being used in a limited capacity, specifically for air ambulances and official delegations, and only during daylight hours, from sunrise to sunset. The update comes amid broader efforts to stabilize aviation operations across Libya, following years of political division, security concerns, and infrastructure challenges. While flight activity at Mitiga continues, occasional scheduling disruptions remain common due to external conditions or logistical factors. Tags: FlightsItalylibyaMitiga Airporttripoli
