Kin claim police torture left 15-year-old immobile; Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills police deny allegations

Time of India16 hours ago
HYDERABAD: The family of a 15-year-old boy arrested by Jubilee Hills police in Dec 2024 on a voyeurism charge has alleged that police torture during three days of unlawful custody has left the juvenile unable to walk.
The police have denied these claims, citing evidence including medical reports to support their stance.
On Dec 15, Jubilee Hills police received a complaint from a private employee stating that his neighbour's 15-year-old son, now a class IX student, had attempted to record videos of his family members through a bathroom ventilator. The complainant further alleged that the boy had recorded him in the bathroom, mistakenly believing it was his wife taking a bath.

Following the complaint, a case was filed on Dec16 under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the BNS at Jubilee Hills police station. According to police, the boy was brought to the station on Dec 17 by his mother. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the offence in the presence of two independent witnesses. His mobile phone was seized, and no allegations of physical assault were made at the time, stated ACP Venkat Reddy.

The boy's family were issued a notice and he was released immediately.
However, the family claimed that while the boy was creating video reels on the staircase of their home, he inadvertently recorded a neighbour in the bathroom.
"Neighbours assaulted my son before the police took him on Dec15. He was later released on Dec 17 after being held unlawfully. A constable assaulted my son during this illegal custody," the boy's father, a junior artiste, alleged.
The boy's mother claimed their complaints of torture have gone unacknowledged, and family had to spend money on private hospital treatment before taking him to Osmania General Hospital in April. "Now my son cannot walk. He can only crawl. Legal action must be taken against those who tortured him," she said.
In response, the police issued a statement including a photo of the boy with his school NCC team, taken four months after the case was filed. They provided a medical certificate from a Professor of Neurology at OGH, dated July 5. The certificate states that the boy is suffering from polyradiculoneuropathy with congenital tethered cord syndrome, ACP Reddy added.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli strike targeted a high-level meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council in western Tehran, where President Masoud Pezeshkian and the heads of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the government, along with other senior officials, were in attendance. Live Events The building's entrances and exits were hit by six missiles to block escape routes and cut off air flow. Electricity was severed following the explosions, but Iranian officials managed to escape through a pre-designated emergency hatch, including the president, who is said to have sustained minor leg injuries while evacuating, as per Al Jazeera. The news agency said authorities launched an investigation into the possible presence of Israeli spies, given the accuracy of the intelligence the "enemy" possessed. Meanwhile, in an interview last week with US media figure Tucker Carlson, Pezeshkian said Israel tried to assassinate him. "They did try, yes ... but they failed," he said. "It was not the United States that was behind the attempt on my life. It was Israel. I was in a meeting... They tried to bombard the area in which we were holding that meeting." The comments come less than a month after Israel launched its unprecedented June 13 bombing campaign against Iran, killing top military commanders and nuclear scientists. According to Iran's Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, at least 1,060 people were killed in Iran during the conflict. The Israeli attacks drew waves of retaliatory drone and missile fire, killing 28 people in Israel, according to authorities. Iran targeted Israeli military and intelligence headquarters with ballistic missiles and drones before the US brokered a ceasefire.

‘Adult content' made her an overnight sensation. Now, a police arrest reveals how Assam woman was victim of AI used by ex-collegemate

Last week, an Assamese woman's 'provocative posts' on Instagram became the subject of headlines, including claims that she had entered the adult film industry. Now, it has emerged that she was the victim of a cybercrime from a man she studied with, and who allegedly morphed her images and videos using AI tools to harass her. The accused, 30-year-old Pratim Bora, is a mechanical engineer who had a work-from-home job and was arrested by Dibrugarh police from Tinsukia on Saturday night. He has been booked under sections of the BNS, including criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty, sexual harassment, production and circulation of obscene material, criminal intimidation, creating false material to harm someone's reputation and defamation. Dibrugarh SSP in-charge, Sizal Agarwal, said on Sunday that the woman, who is around the same age as the accused and is married, had filed a complaint with the Dibrugarh police on Saturday, alleging that her images had been morphed and circulated on social media. She said that police tracked Bora down with the help of the information that he had provided on Instagram to create the profile, which gathered more than a million followers in a short period. 'When she gave us the complaint, she gave us a reference to an Instagram page. We sought its details and found a contact number. From there, we traced the identity of the accused, whom we have arrested. We cross-checked with the woman if she knew Pratim Bora. She confirmed that they had studied together and had a past acquaintance. It confirmed our suspicion that he was behind it,' said ASP Agarwal. Agarwal told The Indian Express that the accused and the woman had been in college from 2013 to 2017. Police said that Bora appeared to be using AI software such as OpenArt and Midjourney. 'We have seized a laptop, two mobile phones, a hard disk, a tablet, a pen drive, a card reader and some SIM cards. When there is a digital crime, information is sought from multiple agencies. Since the case was only registered yesterday, it is at a preliminary stage. He has used AI software, so we will seek all the information. What credentials he used to create all this, how many fake profiles and IDs he created,' said Agarwal. She said that while the Bora appeared to have begun creating and circulating the content for 'harassment based on personal reasons,' he had also made money by monetising the content. 'From our interrogation, we found that he was trying to harass the woman based on personal reasons. After a while, when he created a webpage on Linktree and gave a link to view pornographic content, there was a subscription system. He got money from the subscription. So as the crime continued, he began earning and got almost Rs 10 lakh from the whole process. He became greedy after that and continued the crime because of that,' she said. The profile has amassed millions of views and followers in the past week after a morphed photo of the victim with adult film personality Kendra Lust was uploaded on July 2 with a caption suggesting that she was joining the adult film industry. The provocative posts on the account date back to 2022.

Trump says he spoke to FBI's Bongino amid Epstein uproar

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Sunday he spoke to deputy FBI director Dan Bongino to try to calm an uproar over how the Justice Department handled the probe into the death of accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged clientele. Asked by reporters if Bongino remained in his position after reportedly pondering resigning, Trump said: "Oh I think so... I spoke to him today. Dan Bongino, very good guy. I've known him a long time. I've done his show many, many times. He sounded terrific, actually." Bongino represents a part of Trump's "Make America Great Again" base of support that has long been suspicious of Epstein, whose 2019 death in federal custody has been ruled a suicide. In a joint memo released last Monday, the FBI and the Justice Department said there was no evidence to support a number of long-held conspiracy theories about Epstein's death and his alleged clientele. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 기미, 레이저말고 이렇게 해보세요 에스테틱최원장 Undo Conservative influencers from Laura Loomer to Elon Musk have criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel for their findings, which came months after Bondi pledged to reveal major revelations about Epstein, including "a lot of names" and "a lot of flight logs." U.S. media, including Fox News and NBC News, have reported that Bongino has clashed with Bondi over the issue and was considering stepping down.
