Man arrested after elderly couple killed in fire
Merseyside Police said an accelerant was used to start the blaze.
The man from St Helens was arrested in the early hours of Sunday on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson, senior investigating officer, said: 'Although an arrest has been made, I would like to take this opportunity to remind people to pass on information directly to police or anonymously via Crimestoppers, and not to comment or post in any way which jeopardises this ongoing work.'Extensive inquiries continue, and to that end we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly if you live in the area of South John Street and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious at around the time of the incident. Please do not assume what you know has already been reported to us, as we can quickly make that assessment.'
On Friday, pictures of the couple, including one showing Mr Greener with his arm around Ms Jackson, were released by their families through police.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said last week it was 'sickening' and 'a truly shocking incident' and everyone in Merseyside would be 'utterly appalled' at what had happened.

Three more arrested in connection with protest outside Wirral hotel
Three more people have been arrested in connection with a protest outside a hotel. The protests, which were met with counter-demonstrations, began following reports the Home Office is planning to use the Hoylake's former Holiday Inn Express as accommodation for men seeking asylum. Merseyside Police said a 25-year-old man from the Sefton area had been arrested on suspicion of inviting support for a proscribed terrorist organisation. Now, the police force has confirmed three more people were arrested. Police said on Sunday, 3 August, a man, 28, from Wirral, was arrested on suspicion of a Section 5 public order offence (displaying threatening or abusive writing or signs). A 30-year-old man from Wirral was arrested on suspicion of a Section 5 public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place Another man, a 43-year-old from Wirral, was also arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence. All three people remain in custody and enquiries remain ongoing. Superintendent Karl Baldwin said: 'Everyone has the right to the protest. Nobody has the right to threaten, intimidate or break the law and we will continue to take action against anyone that attends a protest and breaks the law.' Crimestoppers reward for King's Lynn 'no body' murder information
Crimestoppers has offered a reward of up to £20,00 for information that could lead to those responsible in a "no body" murder investigation. Maris Ile, 54, was a seasonal worker from Latvia who had been living in the Highgate area of King's Lynn, Norfolk. He did not arrive at work in Ely, Cambridgeshire, after setting off from home on 20 November, and was reported missing three days Police said it believed the 54-year-old had come to harm and launched a murder investigation in March, despite not having found a body. On 11 March, four men and a woman were arrested at addresses in King's Lynn, Norwich and Peterborough on suspicion of murder in connection with the remain on bail until 11 September, police said. Last month Mr Ile's mother, Galina, described her son as "caring" and said he loved motorbikes as she appealed for information over his disappearance. In a translated appeal, she said: "This is very important to me."If he is no longer alive, then I want the police to find his body, so he would be cremated and brought back home to Latvia so he could rest on Latvian soil, so that he can be buried with his father in the cemetery." Crimestoppers has offered a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to an arrest or conviction, which will be available until 4 November.
