Produced by Artists Equity, the artist-led studio founded by Damon and Affleck in 2022, "The Rip" promises a gripping narrative infused with personal experience and the classic spirit of 1970s cop thrillers.
Carnahan said in an online interview: "Working with Matt and Ben and having two, distinctly talented filmmakers, as both creative allies and the studio heads, wound up being the best of both worlds."
He added that the process on set was a breeze, with Damon and Affleck providing unwavering support for his creative decisions.
"The Rip" revolves around a team of Miami cops who, after discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, find their trust starting to erode.
As outside forces get wind of the astounding seizure, the film delves into the murky waters of trust and loyalty.
"The title for 'The Rip' is simply Miami cop parlance for 'taking the bad guy's stuff,' which is known as 'ripping' it", Carnahan explained.
Damon and Affleck, who are now established A-list actors and producers, first gained fame for co-writing "Good Will Hunting", which won them an Oscar.
Despite their numerous accolades, the pair have shared the screen in a limited number of films together.
The duo recently teased "The Rip" during the Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, where Affleck jokingly said: "I trusted Matt would shave the beard before Tudum - and here we are."
Damon is currently sporting a beard for his role as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "The Odyssey".
Affleck described "The Rip" as "a really fun, engaging ride that keeps you guessing", promising a compelling human drama that intertwines moral dilemmas with thrilling cinematic elements reminiscent of classics like "Heat" and "Narc".
"The Rip" is set for a global release on Netflix on January 16, 2026.

Many hands make lighter work at Albertville park clean-up
On Saturday, July 26, residents of Albertville came together to clean up and reclaim their local park, focusing on clearing rubbish and alien plants. The initiative, led by community volunteers, aims to restore the park to its natural beauty and promote a cleaner environment. Pieter Grobbler, a volunteer, expressed the group's motivation for the clean-up. 'We decided to start with just the alien trees because no one can prohibit you from cutting down aliens. This is just the tip of the iceberg; it's a mission,' he said. Grobbler highlighted the safety concerns associated with the river, noting that litter is often thrown everywhere, contributing to an unsafe environment. Also read: Cleaning up Fairlands the Community Cleaners way Grobbler expressed his frustration with the littering habits of some community members. 'I don't understand why people think others should pick up their litter. They throw everything everywhere, and another issue is that there are no bins in the park,' he said. He emphasised the importance of community involvement, stating, 'Many hands make light work. If we can just get everybody involved, we can make a difference.' Afrika Tikkun's CEO, Marc Lubner, explained that although there were prizes for winners, every single child present would receive a prize. 'The Talent Day Initiative started approximately 12 years ago; we were a much smaller organisation. We've got a new group that's here today from Marikana, which is part of our latest outreach programme.' Lubner added that the NPO has begun to engage with children with disabilities in an inclusion programme. 'So rather than keeping the disabled children separate, we involve the children in mainstream.' City Power announces interim solution for Mahauzana's electricity woes
Residents of Mahauzana Flats in River Park who are grappling with persistent electricity challenges may soon benefit from an interim solution announced by City Power. The utility's General Manager of Public Relations and Communication, Isaac Mangena, clarified that Mahauzana is not a formally registered customer, and the flats, which are part of an unfinished Gauteng Provincial Government project, have been illegally occupied, leading residents to rely on unauthorised connections. Mangena emphasised that City Power is not obligated to supply electricity until the Department formally proclaims the settlement and agrees to cover billing. However, acknowledging the ongoing impasse, the utility has come up with a temporary plan to stabilise the area's electricity supply and reduce strain on the broader River Park community. Also read: City Power leaves Riverpark residents in the dark 'This solution involves the temporary installation of a bulk electricity supply to Mahauzana Flats through a dedicated mini substation and between four to six pillar boxes per block of flats,' he noted. 'Each pillar box will contain a protection system and three-phase prepaid meters for each block. This setup will allow for sub-metering, enabling residents to manage their electricity usage. It is crucial to note that internal house wiring and the installation of compliant distribution boards will remain the responsibility of the residents.' Mangena warned that any illegal connections or non-vending could prompt City Power to disconnect power to the flats or the entire area. 'City Power believes that this is the most viable short-term solution to stabilise the network, curb electricity theft and non-payment, and reduce the power outages that continue to inconvenience other residents of River Park,' Mangena shared. The interim solution aims to address chronic power disruptions while formalisation discussions with the Gauteng Provincial Government continue.
