Mandate of NDB needs to be renewed with focus on greater agility and efficiency: FM
Observing that NDB has played an important role in reshaping the financial landscape for the global South, she said, it has approved more than 100 projects, and it has approved more than USD 35 billion in financing across member countries, including key Indian initiatives like the metro rail, renewable energy and water management.
New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said in today's fast changing world, the mandate for New Development Bank (NDB) must be renewed with focus on greater agility, technological advancement and efficiency.
'In today's fast changing world, its mandate must be renewed. The NDB's mandate must be renewed with focus on greater agility, technological advancement and efficiency, efficiency in an enhanced way. So in conclusion, I would like to say financing sustainable development in the global south isn't just about raising funds.
'It's about building fairness. It's about building trust, and it's building leadership. India, with its dual role as a leading emerging economy and a global influencer, is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation, not just for itself, but for all those who share its aspirations,' she said.
Sitharaman underlined the need for decisive collective action by the global South to address multiple uncertainties arising from fiscal constraints, climate change, and evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Sitharaman highlighted that this deters long-term investment and delays critical progress in areas like renewable energy and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Stressing that India stands at a unique crossroads, she said, 'the aspirations of a billion people converge with the imperatives of a fast-changing planet. And in this moment, policy will determine pace. India has demonstrated how scale and speed can go hand-in-hand.' Through transformative policy initiatives like UPI, Aadhaar and Jan Dhan, India has driven financial inclusion even to the last-mile, she said.
India's policy ecosystem has been further strengthened by programmes such as the Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the National Green Hydrogen Mission and installation of over 220 GW of renewable energy capacity to accelerate clean energy transition, she said, adding, these efforts are complemented by a commitment to macroeconomic stability.
'As we strive towards the 2030 agenda, the financing gap for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries has widened to over USD 4.2 trillion annually post-pandemic, reflecting the widening gap between ambition and reality,' she said. PTI DP HVA

Donald Trump says ‘first tariff letters' to be sent at 9.30 PM IST today
US President Donald Trump confirmed that he would start sending other countries the first letters on tariffs and trade deals on Monday, ahead of a deadline for the paused levies to take effect. 'I am pleased to announce that the UNITED STATES TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals, with various Countries from around the World, will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern), Monday, July 7th,' Trump said on his Truth Social network Sunday. So far, Washington has finalized deals only with the United Kingdom and Vietnam, while reaching a temporary agreement with China to reduce exceptionally high tariffs on each other's goods. Trump said he planned to send '12, maybe 15' tariff notification letters on Monday, PTI reported. He added, 'I think we'll have most countries done by July 9, either a letter or a deal,' noting that some agreements had already been reached. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that the new tariffs would take effect on August 1 but rejected the notion that the date was a delay tactic, AFP reported. Also Read: Donald Trump's tariff letters to hit 12 countries as trade deadline chaos looms 'The President is setting the rates and the deals right now,' Lutnick said. Senior advisor Bessent also dismissed suggestions that August 1 marked a new deadline. 'It's not a new deadline. We are saying this is when it's happening. If you want to speed things up, go ahead. If you want to stick with the old rates, that's your decision,' he explained, as reported by AFP. Bessent noted that the strategy was to apply 'maximum pressure,' citing the European Union as an example of a negotiating partner now making significant progress after initial reluctance. Still, unease persisted among several countries. Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated on Sunday that he 'won't easily compromise' in trade talks with Washington. Meanwhile, BRICS leaders representing fast-growing economies such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China meeting in Rio de Janeiro expressed 'serious concerns' over what they described as 'indiscriminate' and potentially illegal import tariffs, warning of their impact on global trade. I am pleased to announce that the UNITED STATES TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals, with various Countries from around the World, will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern), Monday, July 7th. In response, Trump lashed out at BRICS, warning, 'Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy.'

FMCG shares in focus; HUL, Dabur, Bajaj Consumer rally up to 8%; here's why
Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) stock price today Shares of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies were in focus today, with the BSE FMCG index gaining 1 per cent in an otherwise subdued market as the sector witnessed uptick in volumes and sequentially recovery in demand particularly in urban markets. Bajaj Consumer Care, Godrej Consumer Products, Dabur India, Jyothy Labs and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) were trading higher in the range of 2 per cent to 8 per cent in intra-day trade. Colgate-Palmolive, Emami, Marico, Britannia Industries and ITC were up 1 per cent each. At 10:27 AM; the BSE FMCG index, the top gainer among sectoral indices, was up 1.1 per cent, as compared to 0.09 per cent decline in the BSE Sensex. However, thus far in the calendar year 2025, FMCG index has underperformed the market by falling 2.2 per cent, as against 6.2 per cent rally in the benchmark index. Track Stock Market LIVE Updates Improvement in business performance Dabur India said during the April - June quarter (Q1FY26), the Indian FMCG sector witnessed a sequential recovery in demand with uptick in volume growth particularly in urban markets. With the refreshed strategic vision and favourable macroeconomic conditions such as above average monsoon, good agricultural output, easing inflation and consumption-focused government measures, Dabur India's management expects revenue growth to regain momentum and trend higher in the coming quarters. Godrej Consumer Products' management has maintained its stance of sequential improvement in the performance. For FY26 it expects high single-digit revenue growth with mid-to-high single digit volume growth on a standalone basis and double digit EBIDTA growth (with margins expected to improve in H2FY26). ICICI Securities expects soap sales volume to recover in H2FY26 with base getting normalised. India business is recovering and Africa is performing well post restructuring. The company has to revamp its strategy of Indonesia business to revive growth. Meanwhile, domestic beverage business will be a drag on Dabur's Q1FY26 performance. Improved rural demand and uptick in urban demand augurs well for the sector and recovery in Dabur's performance in the coming years. However, rising competition in some of the categories such as beverages, home care and oral care will keep a check on the recovery and the profitability in the coming quarters, the brokerage firm said in a note. Elara Capital view on FMCG sector FMCG demand remained steady in Q1FY26, though weak urban consumption and an early monsoon impacted summer-centric categories such as beverages and cooling products (hair oil and talc). A few companies are expected to benefit from pricing-led growth, particularly in essentials such as tea, biscuits, and oils, while others may face pressure due to weak summer sales and increased competition in oral care. Higher input costs are likely to weigh on margins, with most companies expected to report a contraction in profitability. Marico, Tata Consumer Products, Mrs. Bectors Food, and Britannia are likely to post double-digit revenue growth, driven largely by pricing in categories such as coconut oil, edible oil, tea, salt, and biscuits. Marico and Britannia are expected to deliver above-average volume growth, while Colgate, Emami, Dabur, and Varun Beverages may report a decline/flat growth in volume, impacted by weakness in the summer portfolio and heightened competitive intensity in toothpaste for Colgate, Elara Capital said in its Q1FY26 preview.

Travel Food Services IPO: Should You Apply? Most brokerage firms have given a 'subscribe for long-term' rating to the Travel Food Services (TFS) IPO, citing the company's strong positioning in airport-focused food services and its growth potential in India's expanding aviation and travel ecosystem. SBI Securities highlighted TFS as a 'proxy to the Indian aviation growth story", given its strong presence across major airport terminals and upcoming concessions at Greater Noida and Navi Mumbai airports. The brokerage noted that the company's brand portfolio includes a healthy mix of in-house and third-party QSR brands. 'At the upper price band of Rs 1,100, the stock is likely to trade at 39.9x FY25 EPS, which is at a discount to listed QSR companies. TFS has superior margins and return ratios along with a strong balance sheet. We recommend investors to 'subscribe' to the issue at the cut-off price," SBI Securities said. Canara Bank Securities is positive on the company's airport-centric model, citing its competitive moat created by global partnerships, strong brand equity, and high-traffic locations. 'From a valuation standpoint, the IPO is priced attractively, placed below the sector average and trades lower than the peer average in terms of price-to-book value (P/BV). Given its strong growth trajectory, first-mover advantage, and resilient business model in a niche, high-growth segment, we recommend a 'subscribe' rating for both listing gains and long-term investment," the brokerage added. Arihant Capital Markets also gave a 'subscribe' rating, pointing to TFS's market leadership in airport QSRs and lounges, operational efficiency, and a diversified brand mix. 'Ongoing expansion in domestic and international airports, along with digital initiatives to boost like-for-like sales, should drive sustained double-digit revenue growth. The issue is valued at a P/E ratio of 38.15 times, based on FY25 EPS of Rs 28.83 per share," the brokerage said. Ventura Securities noted that TFS operates a balanced brand mix across 37 in-house, 32 international, and 58 regional QSRs. Its revenue split is nearly even between lounges (52%) and QSRs (48%). 'TFS's primary operational costs include manpower and food, which are significant components of its expense structure. These costs play a key role in maintaining the company's service delivery across its operations. TFS is also expanding opportunities in expressway travel QSRs," Ventura said while giving a 'subscribe' recommendation. BP Equities emphasized TFS's long-term growth potential aligned with India's aviation trajectory and its strategic locations. 'The issue is valued at a P/E of 39.9 times, based on FY25 earnings, which represents a discount to listed QSR companies. Therefore, we recommend a 'subscribe' rating for the issue," it said.
