First time in 82 yrs, girls walk into Campion School
Mumbai : The Campion all-boys school, which welcomed little girls into its hallowed halls for the first time after adopting the co-education (co-ed) format of schooling, saw children enter dressed as their favourite animals on their first day of school, on Monday. Little boys and girls sat together on tiny desks and chairs for the first time in the school's 82-year history. They sat twiddling and fidgeting on their new desks and chairs as the class teacher tried to get them to sing along to a song. The school conducted a ceremonial walk with the kindergarten children walking hand in hand with Prashant Narnaware, secretary to the Governor of Maharashtra, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ragasudha R. The school has newly built a wing that will cater to the newly gender-mixed classes for nursery and junior kindergarten grades, even as the senior kindergarten continues to be a boys-only class. Principal Sarah Thomas said, 'As the current batch of nursery and junior kg moves to higher classes, those will be upgraded to the co-ed format.' The nursery and junior kindergarten classes will also have a new board affiliation and curriculum, with the school adopting the Cambridge Early Years Curriculum. TOI had earlier reported about the institution's intention to move to co-education classes. 'We believe that starting co-education from the early years fosters empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect — values that are essential in today's world,' said the principal on the shift. 'It has been three years of consultations and deliberations with our board, teachers, alumni network, and the Jesuit community before we reached this day. ' When asked why the school decided to take in girls now after so many years, she said, 'It really required concentrated and cohesive effort.' Shah Rukh Contractor, former chairman of the school's governing council, said, 'When we were deciding to start co-education, we had a choice between the Cambridge Board and the International Board. We decided to join the Cambridge board as we wanted to serve a larger section of society with more value-for-money education.' As Campion School embraces co-education, it decides to change with the times, blending tradition with inclusivity, preparing students to thrive in a diverse and evolving world.

Indian Army Organises Solemn Naming Ceremony Of Newly Constructed Kargil Bypass Bridge
The Indian Army organised a solemn Naming Ceremony of the newly constructed Kargil Bypass Bridge, which has been officially named as 'Captain Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra Setu' as a tribute to the sacrifices of Captain Anuj Nayyar and soldiers of 17 JAT Battalion and the unwavering support by the citizens of Kargil. Captain Anuj Nayyar made the ultimate sacrifice while capturing Pimple Complex on the Western Slopes of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley during Operation Vijay in 1999 and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest military decoration for the brave act. The naming ceremony was attended by Captain Anuj Nayyar's mother, Meena Nayyar, and her younger son, Karan Nayyar, apart from a few family guests, apart from dignitaries as well and representatives of the 17 JAT Battalion. Meena Nayyar and Karan Nayyar unveiled a commemorative plaque. In her address, she remembered her son and expressed gratitude that Captain Anuj's name will be etched forever in golden words in the history of Kargil. 'Captain Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra Setu' will provide an alternate route bypassing the Kargil town, thus significantly improving traffic flow and regional connectivity along the strategic National Highway 1-D. The bridge, which stands as a beacon of patriotism and sacrifice, will continue to inspire the younger generations. Mega Cycle Rally In Srinagar Earlier, the Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier on Sunday organised a mega cycle rally in Srinagar to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas and promote the Fit India campaign. The event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, saw enthusiastic participation from BSF personnel, local officials. As part of the broader 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative, the rally aimed to encourage cycling for health and unify communities in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a fit and active India.

60 retired military officers honoured
Visakhapatnam: City Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi stated that the need to be indebted to mother and the nation rests on each individual. Participating in the 31st anniversary celebrations of Kala Vedika Cultural and Charitable Trust here on Saturday, the CP appreciated the trust members for organising the programme under the banner 'Bharatiya sainika neeku vandanam abhivandanam'. The event saw the organisers honouring 60 retired military officers, who served in various capacities. Speaking on the occasion, trust honorary president Kamal Baid said the service of those who guard the borders of the nation 24/7 courageously and unconditionally needs to be respected and appreciated. 'They are prepared even to sacrifice their lives for the nation. The programme organised on Kargil Vijay Diwas aims at encouraging the relentless warriors of the nation,' he emphasised. About 60 retired military officers were felicitated on the occasion. District Sainik Welfare Board Officer Dr. Satyaprasad and PV Narayana Rao of Visakha Mahanagar Sangh Chalak recalled the remarkable role of soldiers in making Operation Sindoor a success. 'Through the Op Sindoor, the military might of India was known to the rest of the world,' they emphasised. Kala Vedika founder Nanduri Ramakrishna, secretary B Rajini, trustee of Jana Kulam Foundation Ch. Srinivasa Raju and Walkers Association district governor K Dwarakanath, among others, participated.
