shame Announce New Album Cutthroat, Release Title Track: Stream
The post shame Announce New Album Cutthroat, Release Title Track: Stream appeared first on Consequence.
The UK post-punk band shame are back, and have announced their fourth studio album, Cutthroat. Listen to the lead single and opening track, 'Cutthroat,' below.
Due on September 5th via Dead Oceans, Cutthroat is the follow up to shame's 2023 album Food for Worms, and spans 12 new songs produced by John Congleton. Speaking about the album in a statement, frontman Charlie Steen, said, 'It's about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites. Let's face it, there's a lot of them around right now.'

The band expanded on that attitude in a longer joint statement, hinting at a restless drive beneath the record's surface. 'It's driven by hunger,' they said. 'Hunger for something better. For something you've been told you don't deserve. It's primal. It's raw. It's unapologetic. It's the person who turns up to the party uninvited. 'Cause when you've been pushed down, there's nowhere to go but up. When you ain't got nothing, you ain't got nothing to lose.'
To that end, Steen likened the album to the band's live performances. 'This is about who we are,' he said. 'Our live shows aren't performance art — they're direct, confrontational and raw. That's always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it's not about 'Poor me.' It's about 'Fuck you.''
The lead single, 'Cutthroat,' is built around a driving arrangement with a psychedelic tint, and introduces the album's conflation of arrogance and insecurity. In a statement, Steen said, 'I was reading a lot of Oscar Wilde plays where everything was about paradox. In 'Cutthroat,' it's that whole idea from Lady Windermere's Fan, 'Life's far too important to be taken seriously.''
'Cutthroat' arrives with a music video directed by Ja Humby. Watch it below.
Along with the announcement of Cutthroat, shame also unveiled a run of UK and European tour dates, beginning in September and wrapping in November. According to a press release, 'US dates will soon follow, so stay tuned.' See the full list of their upcoming tour dates below, and grab tickets here.

Messi moment never came for outmanned Inter Miami against Paris Saint-Germain
ATLANTA — What we thought would happen between Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup did happen. The upstart Major League Soccer club looked every bit the part against the reigning European (and world) even Lionel Messi, the greatest to ever play, could help David in this matchup against Goliath. Once upon a time, Messi was bigger than Goliath. He may still be on his best day. Just not on this day, in his first match as a 38-year-old. Paris Saint-Germain 4, Inter Miami 0 on Sunday, June 29, in front of 65,574 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. PSG's João Neves scored twice (6' and 39'), Inter Miami's Tomás Avilés was credited with an own goal (44') and Achraf Hakimi put the game away before the halftime whistle (45'+3') to eliminate Inter Miami from the round of 16 at the Club World Cup. Messi is still the biggest star in the world, even in the twilight of his career. The fans packed the stadium with excitement to see him. They wore Inter Miami jerseys, Argentina jerseys and Messi's Paris Saint-Germain fans cheered every moment he touched the ball, patiently waiting for him to deliver the majestic Messi moment he has countless times in his legendary career. Messi nearly delivered several times, including a free-kick opportunity in the 88th minute with all eyes and cell phone cameras on him. Sadly, he kicked it into a wall of PSG players. Messi kept his emotions in check, but you could see his helplessness every time he looked down after looking up at the scoreboard. Still, he didn't stop pushing the envelope. Chants of "Messi, Messi" rang loudly in the 63rd minute, and he nearly answered the call – sprinting his way toward a shot from his left boot that skid right into the PSG goalkeeper's hands. He nearly delivered a header inside the box in the 80th minute, into the goalkeeper's hands Messi moment never came. PSG is clearly the world champion for a reason, while Inter Miami is a club whose youth is too inexperienced, and its aging stars on the other side of their primes. PSG players showed a mastery of being able to get the ball from midfield into the goal area with ease, while Inter Miami players were often turned around trying to catch up. The crowd nearly exploded when Messi lofted a pass right at the feet of Luis Suarez early in the second half. The 38-year-old Uruguayan legend whiffed on his opportunity to strike and bowed his head in disappointment. Sergio Busquets is one of the best midfielders to ever play the sport. His dribbling is one of his best skills. But he was mugged by PSG's Fabián Ruiz just outside the goal area midway in the first half. PSG started a three-man weave that would make Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich proud: Bradley Barcola pounced on the steal, dropped it off to Ruiz, and he found Neves with their third pass in the goal area, and PSG's second goal of the match in the 39th minute. Even Messi was a step slow on a give-and-go with Marcelo Weigandt early in the second half. Inter Miami earned at least $21 million for participating, winning a match with two draws in the group stage, and advancing to the Round of 16. They carried the torch for the three MLS teams in the tournament. They pulled off North America's first win against a club from Europe when they beat FC Porto from Portugal behind an epic free kick goal from Messi just 10 days were outclassed and outmatched 10 days later. But this was expected.

Cannes is done with huge cruise ships. The French city is joining the overtourism backlash
PARIS -- The French Riviera resort of Cannes is imposing what its city council calls 'drastic regulation' on cruise ships, banning any vessels carrying more than 1,000 people from its harbor starting next year. The home of the world's premier film festival is joining a growing global backlash against overtourism, which recently saw uproar over Jeff Bezos' and Lauren Sanchez' Venice wedding this weekend, water-gun protests in Spain and a surprise strike at the Louvre Museum. 'Less numerous, less big, less polluting and more esthetic' — that's the aim of Cannes city councilors who voted Friday to introduce new limits on cruise ships in its ports starting Jan. 1. Only ships with fewer than 1,000 passengers will be allowed in the port, with a maximum of 6,000 passengers disembarking per day. Larger ships will be expected to transfer passengers to smaller boats to enter Cannes. France — which drew in some 100 million visitors last year, more than any other European country and more than the country's population — is on the front line of efforts to balance economic benefits of tourism with environmental concerns while managing ever-growing crowds. 'Cannes has become a major cruise ship destination, with real economic benefits. It's not about banning cruise ships, but about regulating, organizing, setting guidelines for their navigation,' Mayor David Lisnard said in a statement. Cruise operators have called such restrictions damaging for destinations and for passengers. Two cruise ships were scheduled to dock in Cannes on Sunday, each bigger than the upcoming 1,000-passenger limit and with a combined capacity of more than 7,000 people. Their owners did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the new restrictions.
