In conversation with Bollywood Bubble, she reflected on today's environment. Singh pointed out that the change hasn't just come from within the industry but it's the audience that has pushed Bollywood to think differently. 'You walk into any college campus now,' she said and you'll see girls owning their size, flaunting their personal style, and proudly staying connected to their roots whether that means draping a saree or speaking their native language.
She feels this confidence has crept into our movies as well. It's a change that isn't merely skin-deep and it indicates the profound impact of women becoming independent, powerful decision-makers not only in life but also in the box office.
Brown is beautiful
Chitrangda emphasized how Indians today are no longer in a rush to mimic the West. 'We're celebrating our food, our traditions, our language and yes, even our skin colour,' she noted.
With a globalized outlook and increasing exposure there's growing pride in embracing the richness of Indian identity both on-screen and off.
As she aptly said, cinema reflects society. And when women take center stage, turning up in greater numbers as audience and creators, there's finally room to rejoice authentic Indian beauty with curves and dusky complexions.
Letting go of size-zero dreams
Maybe the most invigorating insight gained from the interview was Singh's outspoken position on body image.
"People no longer idolize the size-zero body," she explained by elaborating on how it's liberating to watch actresses and film-goers embracing naturally curvaceous Indian figures.
Having acted in movies such as 'Desi Boyz,' 'Baazaar,' 'Gaslight' and the shows 'Modern Love' 'Mumbai and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter,' Chitrangda has witnessed first-hand how far things have come.
