DOGE plans to use AI to identify 50% of 200,000 federal regulations that can be eliminated by Trump
The tool, the ' DOGE AI Deregulation Tool,' is already in use at the Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, The Washington Post reports.
The U.S. Doge Service described using the tool to analyze about 200,000 regulations to find ones that officials believe are neither necessary nor legally required, with a goal of cutting half by next January and saving the government trillions of dollars in spending by the anniversary of Trump 's inauguration, according to a PowerPoint presentation obtained by The Post.
The DOGE tool has already been used to review more than 1,000 'regulatory sections' at the housing department, as well as to drive '100% of deregulations' at the consumer protection bureau, according to the presentation.
The White House and the housing agency described the efforts as preliminary.
'The DOGE experts creating these plans are the best and brightest in the business and are embarking on a never-before-attempted transformation of government systems and operations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness,' an administration spokesperson told the newspaper.
The Independent requested comment from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, one of the architects of the DOGE program, once mused about mass-deleting federal spending by culling large numbers of government workers.
'If your Social Security number ends in an odd number, you're out. If it ends in an even number, you're in,' he said in an interview with podcaster Lex Fridman in September. 'There's a 50 percent cut right there. Of those who remain, if your Social Security number starts in an even number, you're in, and if it starts with an odd number, you're out. Boom. That's a 75 percent reduction done.'
Musk left the Trump administration in May, and in that time, DOGE failed to achieve the trillion-dollar cuts to federal spending the billionaire suggested might be possible.
The effort — housed in a government tech agency renamed as the U.S. DOGE Service via executive order signed by the president,— was met with sharp criticism from Democratic officials, as well as scores of lawsuits from agency employees and advocacy groups arguing the initiative flouted key parts of transparency rules, federal rule-making guidelines, and budget laws.
In its first six months, the Trump administration implemented actions reducing regulatory costs by $86 billion and 52.2 million hours in paperwork, according to the American Action Forum.

The company expects revenue of about $8.7 billion for the third quarter, plus or minus $300 million, compared with analysts' average estimate of $8.30 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. The outlook does not include any revenue from AMD's AI chip MI308's shipments to China as license applications are currently under review by the U.S. Government, the company said. The company said last month the Department of Commerce would review its license applications to export its MI308 chips to China and it plans to resume those shipments when licenses are approved, after U.S. curbs announced in April required it to obtain a license to ship advanced AI processors to China. AMD had forecast a $1.5 billion hit to revenue this year due to these curbs, with most of the impact affecting the second and third quarters.

Super Micro's quarterly results underwhelm, shares fall

Shares of the San Jose, California-based firm slumped 15% in extended trading. They have soared 91% this year, as investors bet on strong demand for its AI servers and its liquid cooling solutions. Super Micro has been gaining traction in the hyper-competitive server industry, but analysts have said larger rivals such as Dell Technologies (DELL.N), opens new tab and HP Enterprise (HPE.N), opens new tab have been able to leverage their vast customer base to boost sales. "Since we know the market for servers is very strong right now, it is safe to assume the disappointing results for Super Micro are due to share losses," said Gil Luria, managing director at D.A. Davidson & Co. "Their customers are very discerning right now and are choosing servers from Dell, HP and others," Luria added. Super Micro expects revenue of at least $33 billion for fiscal year 2026, compared to analysts' average estimate of $29.94 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. The company, which is bouncing back from accounting-related issues, said revenue for the three months ended June 30 was $5.76 billion, compared with analysts' average estimate of $5.89 billion. Its adjusted earnings of 41 cents per share fell short of estimates of 44 cents.

Toppled Confederate statue in DC to be replaced in line with Trump's executive order
A statue of a Confederate general that was toppled by protesters in Washington in 2020 will be restored and replaced this fall, in line with President Donald Trump 's pushback on recent efforts to reframe America's historical narrative. The National Park Service announced Monday that the statue of Albert Pike, a Confederate brigadier general and a revered figure among Freemasons, would resume its previous position in Washington's Judiciary Square, a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol. It was the only outdoor statue of a Confederate military leader in the nation's capital. The statue was pulled down with ropes and chains on Juneteenth in 2020 as part of mass protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. Confederate statues around the country were toppled by similar protests while several military bases named for Confederate leaders were renamed. The Pike statue restoration, which is targeted for October, 'aligns with federal responsibilities under historic preservation law as well as recent executive orders to beautify the nation's capital and reinstate pre-existing statues,' the park service said in a statement. In March, Trump issued an executive order entitled 'Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.' It decried post-Floyd efforts to reinterpret American history, stating, 'rather than fostering unity and a deeper understanding of our shared past, the widespread effort to rewrite history deepens societal divides and fosters a sense of national shame." The order targeted the Smithsonian network of museums as having 'come under the influence of a divisive, race-centered ideology.' It also instructed the Interior Department to restore any statue or display that was 'removed or changed to perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history, inappropriately minimize the value of certain historical events or figures, or include any other improper partisan ideology.' Pike, who died in 1891, is more known for his decades-long stint as a senior leader of the Freemasons than for his Confederate military career. The Masons lobbied Congress for the right to erect the statue on NPS land in 1901 — provided that he be depicted in civilian, not military, garb. But Pike did lead a regiment for the Confederacy during the Civil War. And as the only outdoor statue of a Confederate leader in Washington, D.C., it had been a source of controversy for decades. Even the brief Park Service page on the statue notes that it has 'stirred opposition since it was first planned.' A long history of demands for its removal The D.C. Council asked for its removal in 1992. In 2017, Mayor Muriel Bowser struck an agreement with congressional leaders to eventually remove it. When protesters toppled the statue in 2020 while police officers looked on, Trump — then in his first term — called it 'a disgrace to our Country' on social media and called for their immediate arrests. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington's non-voting delegate in Congress, called the Park Service move 'odd and indefensible' in a statement Monday. Norton said she would introduce legislation to remove the statue permanently and place it in a museum. 'I've long believed Confederate statues should be placed in museums as historical artifacts," she said, 'not remain in parks and locations that imply honor.'
