AAP govt ridiculed Sikh sacrifice with song and dance: Badal

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the Aam Aadmi Party govt of committing an act of "grave sacrilege" against the Sikh religion by trying "shamelessly" to convert the solemn occasion of the anniversary of the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur into an "entertainment event" at Srinagar. "This is shocking beyond belief," said Badal, adding that this act cannot be dismissed as an "inadvertent" blunder because the chief minister, the minister concerned, Harjot Singh, and several other members of this govt claim to be steeped in Sikh heritage and come from Sikh families. No one in Punjab, not even a non-Sikh, is unaware of the solemnity of the occasion of the ninth Guru Sahib's martyrdom, and none can think of it as an occasion for entertainment. "Acts of sacrilege of Sikh scriptures and shrines are not only happening every other day, but the govt itself felt no shame or guilt in ordering its uniformed police to invade the historically sacred Gurdwara Sahib at Sultanpur Lodhi under direct orders of the chief minister. They opened unprovoked and indiscriminate firing against Sikh religious figures in our Gurdham, and since the CM himself was behind this sacrilegious police assault, no one has even been held accountable for the heinous crime," alleged Badal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AirSense 11 – Smart tech for deep sleep ResMed Buy Now Undo Reacting to reports about the performance of musical entertainment acts and items at an event organised by the Punjab government through its language department in Srinagar, Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal described it as "a part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to dilute and belittle the unrivalled Sikh heritage." In a statement issued here, Badal said, "The real motive behind these acts of sacrilege is to distance our future generations from the uniqueness of our glorious history and the religious legacy of our great Guru Sahiban." "By organising song and dance events instead of recitation of sacred Gurbani at the most profoundly solemn occasion of the anniversary of the martyrdom of "Hind di Chadar" Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the AAP govt has deliberately sought to ridicule a sublime occasion and to belittle the world's most unique sacrifice in the defence of freedom of conscience, religious tolerance, peace, and communal harmony. This is the ultimate disrespect shown to the great Guru Sahib and an act of "grave sacrilege," said the SAD president. Badal demanded that all those behind the anti-Sikh mindset of this govt must be made to admit and explain the endlessly continuing series of acts of sacrilege against the Sikh heritage and Sikh scriptures in the state.

Akal Takht summons Punjab minister Harjot Bains, language dept head over breach of Sikh maryada at martyrdom event

Taking a serious note of the alleged violation of Sikh maryada at an event organised by the Punjab government's language department to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadar in Srinagar on Thursday, Akal Takht officiating jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj summoned education minister Harjot Singh Bains and language department director Jaswant Singh Zafar. Education minister Harjot Singh Bains posted an apology on X on Saturday afternoon. (HT File) They have been asked to appear before the five Singh Sahiban (Sikh clergy) at Akal Takht on August 1 to present their side. A video of the event, purportedly showing singer Bir Singh performing on stage and members of the audience breaking into a dance, had sparked outrage, with Sikh bodies stating that the solemn occasion to mark the Guru's martyrdom had been turned into an entertainment affair by the government. The jathedar said that it is for the first time in history that an event commemorating the martyrdom Shatabdi (centenary) of a Guru began with songs, dance, and entertainment. He said singer Bir Singh had appeared before the Akal Takht on Friday and tendered an apology. It will be taken into consideration during the meeting of the five Singh Sahiban. The jathedar, however, expressed his displeasure over the silence of the minister and the language department director on the issue. Minister issues apology via X On Saturday afternoon, however, Bains posted an apology on X: 'As a Sikh and a cabinet minister, I seek forgiveness for whatever happened during the event due to an unintentional oversight by the organisers. I am a true and humble Sikh of the Guru. I have been summoned by Akal Takht in this regard… I will present myself barefooted at Akal Takht Sahib and acknowledge my moral responsibility, and will be bound to obey every forthcoming command.'

Court grants bail to man accused in kidnapping case involving Vikas Yadav

In its order dated July 23, the court noted that the complainant, Raj Kumar Walia, alleged that he was kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed by co-accused Vikas Yadav and Abdullah Khan on December 17, 2023, where Yadav claimed to be acting on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Partap Singh Laler, who was hearing the bail plea of Jalaluddin alias Sameer, said that there was undisputed evidence of the complainant and the accused travelling together to Thailand, merely three weeks after registration of the FIR on January 6, 2024, creating a prima facie doubt. New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) A Delhi court has granted bail to a co-accused in the extortion and kidnapping case involving Vikas Yadav, a former Indian government official charged by the US authorities for his alleged role in a foiled plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. 'The complainant (Walia) stated that he was forced to make a video call to the applicant/accused (Jalaluddin), who was purportedly based in Dubai, demanding hawala payments. The complainant was allegedly injected with a substance, beaten, and robbed of valuables, including cash, jewellery, and cheques,' the court noted. It noted that the Delhi Police's special cell then registered an FIR invoking charges of kidnapping for ransom, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, robbery, criminal conspiracy, and violations under the Arms Act. The court noted that Yadav and Khan were arrested earlier and certain recoveries were made at their instance, but Jalaluddin was arrested on July 1 this year for his alleged role in the criminal conspiracy. Jalauddin's counsel told the court that his client and Walia travelled to Thailand on the same day on January 6, 2024, shortly after the FIR was lodged on December 17, 2023, and this fact was not disclosed by the complainant to the Investigating Officer (IO) or the court at any stage. After examining the relevant passport pages, the court said, 'The passport entries unequivocally confirm that both the complainant and the applicant arrived at Thailand on January 6, 2024. 'The complainant's passport shows his arrival in Thailand on that date, and the applicant's passport and flight tickets corroborate the same.' It said that while the photographs of Jalaluddin and Walia together, along with WhatsApp communications, were disputed by the complainant by alleging manipulation, the passport details were 'undisputed and form objective evidence.' The court said that despite repeated queries, Walia failed to explain the simultaneous travel to Thailand. It said Jaluddin's role was primarily conspiratorial, no recoveries had been effected from him, the investigation regarding him was complete, he had no prior criminal record, and he also assured compliance with court conditions. 'However, the pivotal factor tilting the balance in favour of bail is the undisputed fact of the post-FIR travel to Thailand by both the complainant and the applicant. This occurrence, merely three weeks after the FIR, raises serious questions about the complainant's conduct and the credibility of his allegations,' the court said. It said Walia was duty-bound to disclose this material fact to the IO and the court, as it directly impacted the prosecution's case. 'His (Walia's) failure to do so, coupled with the lack of any plausible explanation despite court queries, suggests possible suppression of facts. While the disputed photographs and communications require forensic verification at trial, the passport evidence alone creates a prima facie doubt regarding the complainant's version, sufficient to justify bail at this stage,' the court said. It granted him bail on furnishing a bail bond and two surety bonds of Rs 1 lakh each and subject to several other conditions, including not tampering with evidence, not contacting the complainant and cooperating for expeditious disposal of the case. A chargesheet has already been filed against Jalauddin, and the matter has been fixed for further proceedings on August 25. PTI MNR RHL This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
