SGPC official found dead under mysterious circumstance, probe on
Kartar Singh, in-charge of the Dharam Prachar Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday, two days after he was reported missing, police said. According to police sources, Singh's Activa scooter was found abandoned near Sultanwind canal, following which a search operation for his body was launched in the canal. SGPC officials lodged a written complaint at the B-Division police station on Tuesday, demanding immediate action against those responsible. Police said that based on the complaint, they were investigating the case. 'After recovering the scooter from the canal bank, we have intensified the search in the area,' a police officer said. However, police are yet to confirm whether it was a case of suicide or homicide. The victim's kin had earlier expressed concern over Singh's disappearance and suspected 'foul play'. The victim's sister said Singh had been under stress for some time over some domestic issues and had allegedly been assaulted on the night he went missing. 'He had shared his worries with us before. That night too, he was beaten up,' she told the media.

Punjab: Missing SGPC staff member's body found in canal
A senior staff member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was found dead in a canal under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, amidst a reported domestic dispute. His scooter was found on the bridge of the Upper Bari Doab Canal in Sultanwind area of the city on Monday evening. (HT Photo) Kartar Singh, 55, was the in-charge of the Punjab Parchar Branch of Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC. He was missing for the last two days. He left his house on Sunday and did not return, prompting his family to file a police complaint. His scooter was found on the bridge of the Upper Bari Doab Canal in Sultanwind area of the city on Monday evening. On Tuesday, his body was found from the canal at Dhand Kasel village in the vicinity of the city. Bijay Singh, secretary of the Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC, said, 'It has been learnt that his relations with his wife were not good as she used to fight with him'. Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased lodged a formal complaint in the Police Station (B Division) alleging that a day before he left the house, he was thrashed by his Australia-returned wife, son and his sister-in-law. SGPC officials said his body bore injury marks. The police detained his wife on Monday but released her later, stated his sister, who sought action against his wife and other suspects. SHO Sukhbir Singh said, 'No arrest has been made so far. We are questioning the suspects. Only after investigation, we will lodge an FIR in this case'. Kartar, who originally belonged to Chohla Sahib in Tarn Taran district, lived in a flat of the SGPC. His father and two brothers were killed by the Punjab Police during militancy in Punjab. The Sikh segments mourned his death and sought action against those behind his death.

Head constable stabbed while arresting dacoity accused
Bidar: Police arrested three suspects on Friday in connection with the dacoity that took place in Old Adarsh Colony on April 26. The arrested are Kartar Singh from Parali village in Beed district of Maharashtra, his brother Jagjit Singh from Bidar and Akshay from Pune. Police have also detained another person involved in selling the stolen gold, though details are pending. The dacoity occurred in the early hours of April 26 when five masked individuals entered the house of Jyotilata Santosh Kumar, a superintendent at the Deputy Commissioner's office, and stole gold ornaments valued at Rs 15.6 lakh at weapon point. During the arrest attempt, Kartar allegedly attacked the police with a knife, severely injuring head constable Maqsood, who collapsed. Rural CPI GS Biradar fired three rounds when the situation became critical, with one bullet striking Kartar's leg. Police subsequently arrested injured Kartar and also captured Jagjit and Akshay, who attempted to escape into the Honnikeri forest.. SP Pradeep Gunti visited BIMS to check on head constable Maqsood's condition and to gather further details. He said, "Kartar Singh and Jagjit Singh are brothers. Kartar faces 18 outstanding dacoity charges. While Jagjit is currently in Bidar, he was involved in orchestrating the dacoity in Old Adarsh Colony, which was carried out by five individuals together." The SP said that the stolen gold jewellery was sold, and the earnings were evenly distributed among the five suspects. The accomplice who facilitated the sale of the gold has been taken into custody, and efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining two suspects. The gold jewellery has been recovered, and it has been established that an air gun was employed during the heist.
