Mizzou Becomes Favorite to Land Top-5 Class of 2026 Recruit
A new report from Joe Tipton of On3 has the Missouri Tigers suddenly at the front of the race for one of the nation's top basketball prospects.

Five-star shooting guard Jason Crowe Jr. is now projected by multiple insiders to commit to Mizzou.
The 6-foot-3 rising senior, ranked No. 5 nationally in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports, would be Missouri's highest-ranked commitment since Michael Porter Jr in the class of 2017.
The Tigers entered the picture late in the recruiting process, but they're now considered the team to beat for the California native.
Crowe is known for his elite scoring ability, deep shooting range, and confidence as a three-level scorer. He has a smooth stroke, thrives off the dribble, and brings an advanced offensive package that is rarely seen at the high school level.

For months, the Kentucky Wildcats had been the frontrunner for Crowe. In a recent interview, he referred to Kentucky assistant Jason Hart as "like an uncle" and mentioned he trained him when he was younger.
Despite the connection, Crowe never took an official visit to Lexington, leaving the door open for other programs.

According to Tipton and other recruiting analysts, Missouri has 'quietly gained serious momentum' and currently holds the Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports.
While Crowe hasn't released an official list of finalists, schools like USC, Texas, Baylor, UCLA, and Arkansas have all remained involved.

He is set to announce his decision on July 18th, and with less than two weeks to go, Mizzou fans have good reason to be excited.
A commitment from Crowe would not only be historic, but it could signal a new era for Dennis Gates and the future of Tiger basketball.

Yankees make roster move after bullpen strategy backfires in Atlanta
Yankees make roster move after bullpen strategy backfires in Atlanta originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Yankees' sketchy pitching plan backfired Friday night, and now they need to scramble again to cover themselves. According to The New York Post's Joel Sherman, the team is designating reliever RIco Garcia for assignment after Thursday night's bullpen scramble in Atlanta. Garcia was one of four relievers used in the 8–1 loss, a self-inflicted mess following the All-Star break. The Yankees chose to open the second half with a bullpen game. After four days off. With a rotation already thinned by injury. J.T. Brubaker handled three innings in his debut. Garcia covered one. Ian Hamilton opened. It didn't work. And now the Yankees are short an arm again. This wasn't a surprise. It was preventable. They could have recalled a lengthened starter from Triple-A. Or gone with Will Warren, who last pitched on Sunday. Or Marcus Stroman, who pitched Friday and was lined up on extra rest. Instead, they used four relievers in Game 1 of a road trip and burned enough innings that someone had to go. Garcia was the odd man out. He'd just been picked up last week from the Mets, who DFA'd him as well. He has thrown 15.2 solid innings this year with a 3.45 ERA, but he was always an emergency arm they could cut if they needed to. So now the Yankees are scrambling again. Max Fried has been pushed back to the Toronto series. Cam Schlittler was scratched Friday with arm discomfort, but the Yankees are hopeful they will get him a start in the Blue Jays series as well. And with two games still to play in Atlanta, then a three-game series in Toronto, the Yankees are down to hoping someone steps up. Or steps in. The trade deadline is less than two weeks away, but the Yankees need to get there. Burning through the bullpen on the first day of the second half of the season wasn't a great start. And now they need another arm. Again This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 19, 2025, where it first appeared.

Shane Lowry Curses Royal Portrush after Mishap During Second Round at Open Championship
Shane Lowry Curses Royal Portrush after Mishap During Second Round at Open Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shane Lowry opened his campaign at the 153rd Open Championship with a steady one‑under‑par 70 in the first round, navigating Royal Portrush's tricky links with minimal drama. In round two, he is one-under par through 14 to sit at two‑under overall. It was on the par‑4 11th hole during Friday's second round that Lowry's frustration boiled over. After watching his drive veer offline, he could be heard shouting, 'No! Don't go left!' The Irishman then let loose, saying, '(Expletive) off. (Expletive) this place,'—a very usual occurrence when Lowry messes up. That outburst may surprise some, given Lowry's deep connection to Portrush. His stunning victory there in 2019 marked the first Open held in Northern Ireland since the 1950s, and the town still honors him with a large mural of his likeness. There is no ill will toward the venue from Lowry—just golf‑course emotions and the raw frustration that comes when a cherished haven turns against you. The afternoon's squalls and heavy rain only compounded the challenge. Sudden downpours and swirling winds left many contenders scrambling, turning what had been a birdie fest into a test of survival. Even Scottie Scheffler, who was on a birdie run, saw his flawless score blemished by a bogey. Scheffler is showcasing one of his best performances in recent weeks. Every step he took on the course, every shot he hit earned him some new fans in this foreign place. He truly showed his calibre as the World No. 1 on Friday. But the unfortunate part is that Lowry's horror of 11 did not just end there. The officials handed him a two-shot penalty after assessing that his practice swing moved the ball from its designated place. He is now even par heading into the story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared.

Scottie Scheffler Makes Personal Record at The Open
Scottie Scheffler Makes Personal Record at The Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Scottie Scheffler's performance on Friday's second round at Royal Portrush was nothing short of a masterpiece. Drawing inspiration from Rory McIlroy's recent 'artist vs. scientist' debate, where McIlroy quipped, 'I'd like to think of myself more as an artist than a scientist… but with today's technology, we're probably more scientists than artists'. Scheffler claimed the 'artist' mantle and painted his course: a flawless 64 featuring eight birdies. Each stroke demonstrated creativity, precision and flair. His short game was one of his best in recent weeks, if not the best. In fact, his 18th was also going to be a birdie, taking his tally to nine, but the ball stopped just centimetres before the hole. By the 18th green, he had managed to turn foreign supporters into fans of his. Scheffler entered the week at 3‑under after an opening‑round 68, marked by five birdies and two bogeys, that left him three shots under par. By Friday's close, he surged to 10‑under overall, seizing the 36‑hole lead. His eight birdies through 18 holes set a personal single‑round record, eclipsing previous tallies of four in 2024 (rounds 1 and 4), five in 2023 (rounds 4), five in 2022 (rounds 1-3) and five in 2021 (rounds 1 and 2). The only blemish on his card came at the 11th, where a sudden torrential downpour led to his lone bogey, proof that even the greatest artists can be humbled by the elements. Hot on his heels is England's Matt Fitzpatrick, who posted a scintillating 66 to reach 9‑under, just one stroke adrift of Scheffler. Fitzpatrick's own display was nothing short of commendable, ensuring the weekend promises a head‑to‑head duel between two in‑form artists of the game. Looking forward, Scheffler's focus turns to lifting the Claret Jug, an achievement that would bring him one step closer to golf's elusive career Grand story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared.
