Mizzou Becomes Favorite to Land Top-5 Class of 2026 Recruit

Mizzou Becomes Favorite to Land Top-5 Class of 2026 Recruit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A new report from Joe Tipton of On3 has the Missouri Tigers suddenly at the front of the race for one of the nation's top basketball prospects. Advertisement Five-star shooting guard Jason Crowe Jr. is now projected by multiple insiders to commit to Mizzou. The 6-foot-3 rising senior, ranked No. 5 nationally in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports, would be Missouri's highest-ranked commitment since Michael Porter Jr in the class of 2017. The Tigers entered the picture late in the recruiting process, but they're now considered the team to beat for the California native. Crowe is known for his elite scoring ability, deep shooting range, and confidence as a three-level scorer. He has a smooth stroke, thrives off the dribble, and brings an advanced offensive package that is rarely seen at the high school level. Advertisement For months, the Kentucky Wildcats had been the frontrunner for Crowe. In a recent interview, he referred to Kentucky assistant Jason Hart as "like an uncle" and mentioned he trained him when he was younger. Despite the connection, Crowe never took an official visit to Lexington, leaving the door open for other programs. Missouri Tigers head coach Dennis Bush-Imagn Images According to Tipton and other recruiting analysts, Missouri has 'quietly gained serious momentum' and currently holds the Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports. While Crowe hasn't released an official list of finalists, schools like USC, Texas, Baylor, UCLA, and Arkansas have all remained involved. Advertisement He is set to announce his decision on July 18th, and with less than two weeks to go, Mizzou fans have good reason to be excited. A commitment from Crowe would not only be historic, but it could signal a new era for Dennis Gates and the future of Tiger basketball. Anonymous ACC coach has harsh reality for UNC basketball

It's no secret that the UNC basketball program has struggled this season. Entering the final week of the regular season, North Carolina is on the NCAA Tournament bubble with games against Virginia Tech and Duke ahead. North Carolina has put themselves in a tough spot with just one Quad 1 win this season. As of now, they have just one more opportunity which is Saturday at home against Duke. Essentially, UNC needs to win out or have a deep ACC Tournament run to avoid missing the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four seasons under Hubert Davis. While the focus is on finishing strong this season, the future of the program has some big questions. Davis will return for next season after signing an extension back in December. But one thing is clear, North Carolina has to retool the roster and make sure they are better next season. That's evident from a quote from an anonymous ACC coach. Joe Tipton of On3 wrote on North Carolina's big offseason ahead. The article is premium but Tipton teased part of it with a strong quote: 'This is the least talented Carolina team we will ever play.' - an anonymous ACC coach. Looking ahead: Needs North Carolina has to address in the transfer portal to return to national prominence 🔮'This is the least talented Carolina team we will ever play.' - an anonymous ACC coach Story (On3+): — Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) March 3, 2025 Oof. That's a pretty strong quote from a coach who was referencing this year's roster. However, is it really NOT that talented? This team still has talent with RJ Davis, Ian Jackson, Seth Trimble, and Drake Powell among others. But the play has not been up to Carolina standards. And that's been the issue. Whether or not UNC makes a run to the NCAA Tournament this year, it's key they fix this roster next season through the transfer portal.
