Michigan State basketball extends offer to 5-star wing Cameron Holmes

USA Today8 hours ago

Michigan State basketball has been very active on the recruiting trail, sending out various new offers in the 2026 recruiting class. The Spartans zeroed in on a five-star target in the class for their latest offer.
Cameron Holmes was the recipient of the Spartans offer, the younger brother of former Dayton Flyer and current Denver Nugget DaRon Holmes.
A 6-foot-5, 195 pound wing from Goodyear, Arizona, Holmes plays his prep basketball for Millennium High School. He is a 5-star prospect that ranks No. 16 overall and the No. 5 small forward in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
A player that has good size for the wing position, Holmes is a lefty that is a threat to make threes, pull-ups and the occasional tough shot. He also shows good defensive upside, making him an interesting prospect as a two-way player.

Former Michigan State golfer James Piot finishes at T73 in Rocket Classic shooting -7

Former Michigan State golfer and 2021 US Amateur champion James Piot played in his hometown's PGA Tour event at the Rocket Classic in Detroit, going to the Detroit Golf Club and making history by competing in the PGA Tour following a stint in LIV. For Piot, a Canton (MI) native, he made his first career cut on the PGA Tour, getting in on the six-under number. After an even par third round, Piot came out on Sunday and fired a 71 (-1) round, making him a clean seven-under for the tournament, which notches him a finish at T73 for the tournament. The T73 finish on the leaderboard comes with a $19,000 payout in earnings, the first payout for Piot on the PGA Tour. With the complications between his transition from LIV back to the PGA, it is unclear when he will be given the opportunity to make another start on the PGA Tour. Michigan State Spartans Lose Class of 2026 Recruiting Battle to Missouri for Coveted Offensive Tackle Khalief Canty Jr.

Michigan State Spartans Lose Class of 2026 Recruiting Battle to Missouri for Coveted Offensive Tackle Khalief Canty Jr. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After beating out SEC's Alabama for in-state wide receiver Samson Gash, the Michigan State football team was hit with the news that another in-state prospect decided to take his talents elsewhere. Advertisement Not only did the offensive tackle commit to a different school, the Spartans went 1-1 with the SEC conference on Tuesday. Michigan State offensive line coach Jim King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Khalief Canty Jr., a three-star out of Detroit, Mich. decided that Missouri was the place for him on June 24. He is the No. 434 overall recruit, No. 38 interior offensive lineman from the class of 2026, and No. 9 student-athlete out of his state. Michigan State made it down to the wire in his commitment decision. The Spartans were of the top two schools Canty Jr. was considering, and home advantage definitely gave Michigan State an edge over the other schools he received offers from. Advertisement Despite going with Missouri, he teased the Spartans on Monday with a post stating, "Hometown Hero?" in the green and white uniform. However, it's been a pattern this season of recruits fostering excitement among fanbases just to switch entirely and go with another school. So, it can't be too surprising that Canty Jr. chose the Tigers instead of following through with the sequence of his social media. Not landing Canty Jr. isn't the end of the world for head coach Jonathan Smith. Michigan State already has four offensive tackles committed from the class of 2026, including Collin Campbell, Quinn Buckey, Eli Bickel, and Tristan Comer. While Canty Jr. would've been a nice addition, five tackles work a fine line between security and overkill.
