935 kg Ganja, Valued At Rs 5 Crore, Seized By Telangana Officials
A sophisticated intelligence-driven operation by Telangana's Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), Telangana's newly restructured anti-narcotics wing, has resulted in the crackdown on a sophisticated interstate ganja smuggling syndicate. The operation resulted in the seizure of a staggering 935.611 kilograms of ganja, valued at Rs 5 crore, and the arrest of three key individuals.
The massive bust highlights the intensified approach of EAGLE that recently replaced the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) to enhance the state's fight against narcotics.
Acting on precise intelligence, personnel from the Regional Narcotic Control Centre (RNCC) in Khammam and the Rachakonda police's narcotics wing set up surveillance at the Batasingaram fruit market junction on the Vijayawada National Highway on Saturday. At approximately 3:05 pm, a target goods vehicle, accompanied by an escort SUV, was intercepted.
A thorough inspection of the goods vehicle revealed 35 HDPE bags ingeniously concealed beneath empty plastic fruit trays. These bags contained 455 packets of ganja, meticulously wrapped in brown tape, totaling the impressive haul of 935.611 kilograms.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pawar Kumar Badu, a known NDPS offender from Maharashtra, along with Samadhan Kantilal Bhise and Vinayak Baba Saheb Pawar. Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio had travelled from Maharashtra to Rajahmundry on July 23 in a rented SUV. There, they met with their Odisha-based supplier, Sachin Gangaram Chouhan, who loaded the ganja into the goods vehicle.
The consignment was then transported with the SUV acting as a scout vehicle to evade police detection, showcasing the syndicate's sophisticated tactics. The operation also revealed a credit-based supply model and the maintenance of both digital and manual records, pointing to a highly organised illicit trade.
A case has been booked under Section 27A of the NDPS Act, which addresses financing and harbouring of offenders, for their involvement in the procurement, transportation, and distribution of narcotic substances.
In addition to the substantial ganja seizure, police confiscated the goods vehicle, the escort SUV, and several mobile phones, each equipped with dual SIM cards used for intricate communication and coordination. A widespread search is currently underway for the absconding supplier, Sachin Chouhan.
The EAGLE is hoping a crackdown like this will serve as a strong deterrent to drug traffickers. EAGLE was formed in June 2025 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy who announced its motto of "Zero Tolerance - Total Surveillance". The public has been requested to report any suspicious drug-related activity to the toll-free helpline number 1908, with the assurance of informant confidentiality.

"Along with financial loss, he also suffered physical and mental trauma," Dharma Sharma, Soni's counsel, argued before the tribunal. The defence – comprising truck driver Vijay Kumar, Suraj Transport Service and ICICI Lombard Insurance Company – contested the compensation claim on multiple grounds. Rajesh Bhardwaj, representing the truck driver and the transport company, argued that his clients were being falsely implicated and questioned the high compensation amount. Deepak Gupta, counsel for the insurance company, argued that details of the truck and its registration number were not mentioned in the original FIR. He also raised objections on Soni's age and salary drawn by him before the accident. But Soni's counsel presented an eyewitness – Bijender, who runs a scrap shop near the accident site. Bijender said in his testimony that he saw the accident and had noted down the truck's registration number. A day later, the shop owner told the tribunal, he provided details about the truck and the accident to cops who were investigating the case. Noting these details, the tribunal's presiding officer on Thursday ruled in favour of Soni and directed the truck driver, the transport company and the insurance firm to jointly pay Rs 30.7 lakh as compensation along with 7.5% annual interest.

ED took up 5,892 PMLA cases since 2015, got convictions of 15: Govt to Rajya Sabha
The Finance Ministry has informed Rajya Sabha that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took up 5,892 cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) since 2015 and secured the conviction of 15 people from these cases during the period. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply: 'In these cases, 1,398 Prosecution Complaints (PCs), including 353 Supplementary PCs have been filed before the respective Special Courts under PMLA. Out of which, so far, the Special Courts have framed charges in 300 Prosecution Complaints including 66 Supplementary PCs and the PMLA Special Courts have convicted 15 persons in eight conviction orders in these cases till June 30.' The minister said that the ED has filed closure reports before the special PMLA court in 49 of the total cases. In an annual report 2024-25, ED Director Rahul Navin said: 'In the early years of administering PMLA, most cases pertained to drug-related offences. Till March 2014, only 1,883 Enforcement Case Information Reports (ECIRs) had been registered — averaging fewer than 200 annually — and just 84 Prosecution Complaints (PCs) were filed, with assets under attachment only Rs 5,171.32 crore.' 'Between April 2014 and March 2024, there has been a significant scale-up in enforcement activity, with 5,113 PMLA investigations initiated — averaging 511 ECIRs annually — and 1,332 PCs filed. I am pleased to report that building on this momentum, in FY- 2024-25, 775 new PMLA investigations were launched, 333 PCs were filed, and notably, 34 individuals were convicted,' he said.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police team seized 123 kg of ganja and arrested three persons involved in its transportation from Andhra Pradesh. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the CCB team intercepted two vehicles near Matadakere at Kantavara Cross in Beluvai village, Moodbidri, based on credible information. The police team found ganja being transported in two cars. The arrested suspects are Masood MK,45, a resident of Mogaru House, Adoor, in Kasaragod district of Kerala, Mohammed Ashiq,24, and Suber,30, both residents of Parappa in Kasaragod. Police seized two vehicles and five mobile phones from the arrested. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 46.2 lakh. Moodbidri police registered a case, and investigations are under way, said the commissioner. He added that the city police will intensify its drives to clamp down on drug peddling in the city.
