Wimbledon tech fiasco forces Brit's match to be stopped after Emma Raducanu outcry
Sonay Kartal's match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was thrown into controversy when new line-calling technology failed to register a ball which had landed beyond the baseline Sonay Kartal's Wimbledon showdown with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova saw an unexpected halt when the automated line calling system failed to signal a ball out in the first set. Kartal had sent the ball long past the baseline, yet no 'out' call was made by the technology. Play came to a halt while the umpire sought to resolve the issue, eventually resulting in the point being replayed. The official, consulting his courtside phone, confirmed the situation but couldn't overturn what had happened. He explained to the players and audience onlooking: "The electronic line calling system was unable to track the last point so we will replay the point." If the 'out' had been acknowledged, Pavlyuchenkova would have secured the game against her British rival on Centre Court. Nevertheless, the contest went on with affirmations that the artificial intelligence was back in order. Pavlyuchenkova's spirits dipped after dropping the subsequent game, venting: "They've stole a game from me. they've stole it." Line judges are on hand at the venue, despite the All England Club having removed 300 officials in favour of the tech, reports the Mirror. These judges are brought into action if the electronic system malfunctions, yet Sunday's match progressed without their intervention. British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu voiced her frustration over the use of technology following her own Wimbledon exit. She said: "Yeah, I mean, that call [against Aryna Sabalenka] was, like, for sure out. It's kind of disappointing, the tournament here, that the calls can be so wrong. For the most part they've been okay. "It's just, like, I've had a few in my other matches, too, that have been very wrong. So yeah, I don't know. Hopefully they can kind of fix that." With a tradition stretching back 147 years, line judges were finally replaced by Live Electronic Line Calling as decided in October, bringing the All England Club on par with counterparts such as the Australian Open and US Open. Chief executive Sally Bolton reassured that the technology has become "sufficiently robust," with Wimbledon now seeking "maximum accuracy" in its officiating approach.

Dom deal not a bad idea as United close in on Calvert-Lewin
Another day, another forward is linked with Manchester United with widespread reports suggesting free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be snapped up by the Europa League runners-up. The England international is available after failing to sign a new deal with Everton after nine seasons at Goodison Park which promised greatness only for injuries to limit his potential. Championship winners Leeds United were keen on signing the 28-year-old last month but dropped their interest because of his wage demands and it is believed the former Toffees target man ideally wants to join a club which is involved in Europe next season. Champions League Newcastle, who are 11/2 with William Hill and bet365, would be ideal candidates as they are searching for a goalscorer to push Alexander Isak after recently missing out on Brighton forward Joao Pedro who has opted to sign for Chelsea. But moving from Merseyside to Manchester would appeal to Calvert-Lewin and Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen on the switch, especially if he can get Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia off the payroll with Rasmus Hojlund also primed to leave. Calvert-Lewin only scored three times in 26 Premier League outings last season but has previously managed double figures in back-to-back campaigns and would line up with Matheus Cunha, who has been snapped up from Wolves for £62.5million. United have offered Brentford a similar amount for Cameroon attacker Bryan Mbeumo but the Bees are holding out for at least £65million with United still monitoring the situation between Viktor Gyokeres and Amorim's former club Sporting, although Arsenal appear to hold the upper hand if negotiations develop. Calvert-Lewin's decision to run down his Everton contract and become a free agent saves money for United which can be spent elsewhere and the lure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world would satisfy his ambitions. That makes odds of 5/1 with Hills that he is wearing the famous red shirt at the start of next term difficult to ignore. Marin Cilic is enjoying a renaissance in the twilight of his career with a strong run into the second week at Wimbledon, but it is possible he will find his next rival too hot to handle. The 36-year-old has been involved in a couple of gruelling matches with a four-set victory over British hope Jack Draper followed by a similar success against Jaume Munar, who took the prized scalp of Alexander Bublik, a dark horse to win the title before a ball was hit, in the first round. Next up it's Flavio Cobolli, who has yet to drop a set, and the 22nd seed's last victory was an impressive one against No.15 seed Jakub Mensik. The Italian is evens to reach the quarter-finals with William Hill, Betfred and 888Sport. More Trending Clara Tauson has never reached the quarter-finals of a grand slam but that will change if she beats Iga Swiatek in what promises to be a thrilling match as Wimbledon's women's singles battle gathers pace. The 22-year-old right-hander from Denmark will be full of confidence after defeating former champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the last round and can push Swiatek, who has picked up form on grass after losing her French Open crown at Roland Garros last month, all the way. It is 13/8 with Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet this goes to a deciding set and although the outcome is a tougher call, a small flutter on Tauson winning 2-1 is interesting at 13/2 with Ladbrokes, Coral, Sporting Index and SpreadEx. Brooklyn Beckham posts adoring tribute to wife Nicola as family feud rages on
Brooklyn Beckham has posted a gushing tribute to his wife, Nicola Peltz, after a source told the Mirror he 'felt he didn't fit in' with his famous footballing family Brooklyn Beckham has posted another loving tribute to his wife, Nicola Peltz, as the bitter feud with his family rumbles on. The young couple, who married three years ago, reportedly left David Beckham 'heartbroken' when they swerved his 50th birthday in May - despite being in the UK at the time. On Saturday, a source told the Mirror that the hot sauce enthusiast, 26, doesn't feel like he 'fits in' with his famous family, ahead of his little sister Harper's 14th birthday. And now, Brooklyn has declared he's on Team Nicola again in his latest Instagram post in which he shares a snap of his wife larking about next to a pile of Louis Vuitton luggage with the caption: "My girl xx." READ MORE: Brooklyn Beckham feels he 'doesn't fit into family' as Harper's 'heartbroken' over rift It comes after a source told us that Brooklyn probably wouldn't be going to Harper's 14th birthday next week because of the tension between his wife and his parents. Claiming Victoria and David's firstborn 'didn't want things to turn out this way', they said: 'He didn't want it to turn out this way and he's always been really close to all his siblings, but he is a married man now and his priorities have to lie somewhere else." Last month, Brooklyn publicly marked the five-year anniversary of his marriage proposal to Nicola, saying it was his 'best decision ever'. Our source said: "It's becoming increasingly obvious that the former photographer's loyalties don't lie with his parents and siblings", but adds that it isn't surprising given he is now married. They continued: 'He just doesn't feel his family have treated Nicola well and now that he's grown so close to her family in the States, he doesn't really feel like he fits into the Beckham family right now. "If Harper's wish is to have her brother at home for her big day, sadly, she's probably going to be disappointed.' There's been plenty of family affection flying around on the Beckhams' social media channels, most recently when David paid tribute to Victoria on their wedding anniversary and tagged Brooklyn in the caption. However, Brooklyn has, so far, stayed silent despite being very vocal on Instagram when it comes to Nicola's billionaire family. In posts, which some have said are twisting the knife, Brooklyn has wished both his brother-in-law and father-in-law Happy Birthday recently despite snubbing his own dad's milestone. He also fuelled the feud rumours by posing for a new photoshoot for Italian brand, Moncler, which was shot in London in May just two miles from the Beckham's family home in Notting Hill - and only one mile away from David, who was at the Chelsea Flower Show at the time.
