Kia Carens Clavis: Electric or ICE, which tech should you pick for long drives?

Hindustan Times4 days ago
The Kia Carens Clavis comes as one of the upmarket, practical and feature-packed MPVs in India. Kia launched the ICE version of the Carens Clavis before, and now, the South Korean automaker has introduced the Carens Clavis EV , which comes as a pure electric iteration of the three-row family car. The launch of the Kia Carens Clavis EV not only enhances the options for consumers but also strengthens the automaker's position in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
Kia Carens Clavis EV is more suitable for driving in and around cities, while the ICE version of the MPV appears as a stronger option for consumers who love long-range travel.
Kia Carens Clavis EV comes as the brand's first made-in-India electric car. Thanks to local manufacturing, the Carens Clavid EV comes with competitive pricing, making it the most affordable electric car from the brand.

Interestingly, Kia Carens Clavis is one of the few cars in India that is available in both ICE and electric powertrain choices. Some other models include Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, Tata Tiago, Tata Tigor, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, etc.
Now, with the launch of the Carens Clavis EV, many consumers who love to go on long trips in their vehicles are in a dilemma - to go for the Carens Clavis ICE model or the Carens Clavis EV? If you, too, are feeling the same confusion, here is a quick look to help you choose better.
Kia Carens Clavis vs Carens Clavis EV: Performance
The Kia Carens Clavis EV packs a 170 bhp peak power and 255 Nm torque-generating electric motor that is paired with a 51.4 kWh battery pack. Like any electric vehicle, the Carens Clavis EV is also known for its smooth and responsive performance, which makes the driving experience comfortable, especially in congested urban traffic conditions. On the other hand, the petrol and diesel engine-powered versions of the Carens Clavis are best suited for long-range travel. If you are more of a roadtripper with your family, then the diesel version of the MPV makes sense.
Kia Carens Clavis vs Carens Clavis EV: Range and refuelling
Kia Carens Clavis EV comes with an ARAI range of 490 kilometres on a single charge, which translates to a real-world range of around 360 kilometres. This means the Kia Carens Clavis EV is well capable of handling regular commuting in and around the cities as well as weekend trips. However, taking the Carens Clavis EV for a long-distance travel requires careful planning to make sure the electric MPV doesn't run out of charge. However, recharging a battery takes significantly longer than refuelling the fuel tank of an ICE vehicle, which makes the case stronger for the ICE-powered Kia Carens Clavis when it comes to long-range travel.
Kia Carens Clavis vs Carens Clavis EV: Driving experience
The Kia Carens Clavis EV is easier to drive in congested and slow-moving traffic, thanks to the one-pedal driving technology as well as the regenerative braking system. The ICE version of the MPV, on the other hand, feels more mechanical nd conventional, which many purists may prefer. If it is about city commuting, the EV offers a more relaxed driving experience, but when it is about hitting the highway for a long trip, the ICE model makes more sense.

Trump says US has 'great' relationship with S. Korea after trade deal

Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States has a "great" relationship with South Korea, after Seoul and Washington reached a trade deal earlier this week following months of gruelling tariff negotiations. Trump made the remarks during a press availability, responding to a reporter's question about his anticipated summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, which he said will take place at the White House in two weeks. "We have a great relationship with South Korea," Trump said tersely, reports Yonhap news agency. On Wednesday, Trump announced the trade deal, under which his administration agreed to lower "reciprocal" tariffs on Korea to 15 percent from the proposed 25 percent in return for Korea's investment commitments and other pledges. He also said that his South Korean counterpart will visit the White House in two weeks. Seoul's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said later that talks are underway to coordinate and set a summit date. Meanwhile, the South Korean government reaffirmed that its trade deal with the United States does not include further opening of the country's rice market to American products. "The Korea-U.S. trade deal did not cover the rice issue," the finance, industry and agriculture ministries said in a joint press release. The announcement came after White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the trade deal provides market access to American goods, including rice, which reiterated U.S. President Donald Trump's earlier claim on agricultural market access. On Thursday, the two countries struck an agreement under which the U.S. lowered its reciprocal tariff rate for South Korea to 15 percent from the initially proposed 25 percent in return for Seoul's pledge to invest US$350 billion in the world's largest economy and purchase $100 billion worth of American liquefied natural gas and other energy products over the next four years. The U.S. administration had reportedly pressured Seoul to further open up its rice and beef markets, raising issue with Korea's import ban on American beef products from cattle aged 30 months or older.

Samsung's JB Park reveals why the company has not yet launched Trifold smartphone

Samsung officially confirmed the existence of its trifold smartphone last month, announcing plans to launch the device by the end of this year. A top executive has now offered insight into why the South Korean tech giant deliberately delayed the commercial release. According to JB Park , president and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, the company focused on a more fundamental question before rushing to market: whether consumers would truly see the value in such a product. 'The question is, will we tri-fold it, quadruple it, or why do we need to do it? The first question is, why do we need it? If you unfold the tri-fold or quadruple fold, how big will it be? And why do we need to roll it or fold it? I think the fundamental question is, will consumers see the value of it?' Park told The Times of India Tech in a response to a question about the next evolution of the company's foldable smartphones . Park suggested that the decision to hold back on a trifold smartphone is a strategic one, aimed at avoiding a bulky form factor that doesn't significantly benefit the user. 'If you can carry a laptop, do you want to fold a laptop to make it smaller? If you have a tablet, do you want to fold your tablet to make it smaller?' Park questioned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain (Search Now) Knee Pain Treatment | Search Ads Undo 'I think it really doesn't give a benefit because it becomes so bulky. Yes, the technology is available, but we don't market it. We don't commercialise it, because I don't think it makes sense ,' he explained, soon after the company launched the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Flip 6SE smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York. JB Park on where does AI 'unfolds' in the next era When asked about the next-generation AI features that customers can expect in smartphones in the coming months and in distant future, Park said that Samsung believes will be defined by artificial intelligence (AI). The representative stated that the future of AI will be about on-device AI that is independent of the cloud but can connect to it to perform complex tasks. "Tomorrow, I think it's more of how people are using the AI. Whether it's productivity or coding, engineering or in your academic research when you have to write your term paper, the AI kicks in," he explained. This advanced, on-device AI will be powerful enough to guide users toward better solutions, effectively replacing a laptop for many tasks. Notably, Samsung's newest foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 – feature a string of AI tools and features that align with the company's broader focus on delivering a smarter and more meaningful user experience. The company partnered with Google to power Galaxy AI features. Park pointed to a specific example for the Indian market, where its AI could assist with real-time, simultaneous translation for the country's many different dialects. 'That's where I think it will assist on not only in translation. Like in India, you have so many dialects that you need someone to interpret. Tomorrow, it will all be done simultaneously on the devices. So you don't have to memorise things. You don't have to have an opinion of a lawyer or doctor. You just can have a massive intelligence that's connected on your device to a cloud that can guide you to a better solution,' Park noted. The executive concluded by saying that as the AI technology evolves, Samsung will be the pioneer in moving towards that direction. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: 7 UNMATCHED Features No Other Foldable Has!
